Austin's entrance in Attitude is dated too! I mean they use is entrance in WM13 (Big window of AUSTIN 3:16 shatters). See what I mean? Attitude is dated. Period. End of story. Its almost as dated as ECW Anarchy RULZ.

It's really easy to evaluate how much a game is dated if a number of years have passed, but Elbarto, you beg the question-- was there any better US wrestling game for PS1 at the time? Did not Acclaim put forth one of its best efforts ever for that game?

Well?

Attitude had its limitations, but that game had so many aspects to it that made it unique and fun. I can't stand back and let my favorite game get HATERIZED ON!!!

Nothing personal.

Carry on.

I think the question was at the time of attitude, was there a better wrestling game available on that platform? Since the only other one out there was WCW Thunder, WCW Nitro, WWF Wrestlezone, and WCW vs the World, I'd have to say no. At the time it came out it was a lot of fun, had a ton of moves, and was an enjoyable game to play.

I beg to differ.

(beat Attitude to the market by a month and a half...)

OK, I'm sorry, its the only game you can walk into an American store and get. It is also the best game at the time that did not require a knowledge of the Japanese language.

Oddly, that's not ENTIRELY true, either, even if "American store" == strictly the chains. My local Electronics Boutique outlets (EB Gameworld, formerly Stop & Save Software) have carried imports at irregular intervals; I've seen Fire Pro S (Saturn), G (PSX) and D (Dreamcast) on their shelves at various times. Ditto for local GameStop (formerly Babbage's) franchises.

It is also the best game at the time that did not require a knowledge of the Japanese language.

FAQs, m'man. The only Japanese characters I recognize are those for "yes" and "no," but I've been playing Fire Pro games since '97 without any problems.

If you want to put an obstacle up and disqualify Japanese games, say "Attitude's the best game you could play without a modchip." Given the slim pickings available then, I might go there. But if you add in Japan, I'd take Fire Pro G, Toukon Retsuden 3, All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling or AJPW: King's Soul over Attitude, all of which were contemporary to it.

Okay, I'm done being a Japanese game snob. Carry on.

I don't actually have a Playstation, so I'm only going by experience on few times I've played my friend's system. NHL 2003 is amazingly addictive, however.

[Yeah but what happens when the next WrestleMania rolls (rolled) out? Then the game looks dated with a WrestleMania 15 banner doesn't it? They actually thought ahead and went out of their way to make it LESS dated by doing what they did.

What are u talkin 'bout. I found WM12 and WM14 banners in the create-a-stadium thing. And by putting a WM15 banner is making the game LESS Dated????????

Renegade,Mistress of Darkness says:

1.Final Fantasy Chronicles (Okay, so it slowed the battles WAY down, but it had friggin' Chrono Trigger AND FFIV so it's just fine with me).

2.Metal Gear Solid (Stealth games rule. Plus it was hilarious when Psycho Mantis scared the crap out of my younger sisters by "moving" the controller).

3.Castlevania SoTN (I'm a huge vampire mark, so that has something to do with it, but it was a really fun game too).

4.Monster Rancher 1&2 (It was the first Playstation game I got and man is it addictive. Monsters from your CDs? Genius! I never did get to S class, but I'm still trying to. RIP to my Gali that beat the A class, but tragically died right after that. But now I'm really motivated to get the S class...just to see what friggin' monster comes from my Downward Spiral NIN album, since it's too "rare" of a monster to be unlocked right now...)

5.Tekken 3 (A good fighter game and fun to play with other people. Plus, Hwoarang is cool.)

Honorable Mentions-Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Anthology, Rival Schools, Smackdown 2, and Parappa the Rapper.

... I'm not sure if you know of this site -- Monster Rancher Metropolis -- but this will answer all of your questions about getting the most out of each monster and breeding them to the highest possible level. They have it down to a science ... mathematical solutions and all. When I figured out how to breed the monsters correctly, the game almost became brand new for me again.

And since I'm a contributor to Monster Rancher Metropolis, I second that suggestion. (I wasn't the one who used an Xplorer (GameShark) to obtain the numbers, but I crunched them into a couple of damn good raising methods.)

I'm assuming you're having problems with MR2, as it's harder than MR1.

In MR1, there aren't that many extra types that require unlocking -- really, the only tough ones are the Henger (several parts to find, and a strong AND smart monster is required), the Ghost (some luck or frequent resetting is involved) and the Disc (you need specific CDs to generate one).

In MR2, just beating an S-Rank tournament won't unlock anything in and of itself. If you're still 5th Rank, you definitely have six types that are restricted, and may well be missing items or events that would (individually) unlock ten others! Once you've reached S-Rank, you have the Big 4 tournaments to contend with -- and then one more surprise after that...

Hmm... my favorite PS1 game... I dunno, too many to choose from.

But I'm gonna have to go with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 or WWF Attitude.

Suikoden. Very fun and big, plus it lead to me hearing...

"So, you've been playing Suikoden?" in Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid

Silent Hill. Not as good of a gameplay engine as RE or RE2, but I have never played a scarier game. The shadows in the schoolhouse. The nurses. The recurring wheelchairs. The elevator. The only game to actually give me nightmares (until 2 that is).

FF Tactics. Sure, if you use broken Calculators the game is too easy. Don't use calculators...it's like playing softball against infants. Other than it's ability to be broken as such, best PS game.

Syphon Filter. How fun is tasering people until they catch on fire?

SF Alpha 3. Best 2-d fighter on the system.

Tekken 3. Best 3-d fighter on the system. (Sorry, Tobal No. 1 bored me to tears. Boring moves and a terrible adventure mode.)

Lunar. Ok, so they were Sega CD games. Their presentation, layout, and packaging should be a standard (Soundtrack CD, Making of the Game Documentary, Cloth Map, Pendant, Hardcover Instruction Manual with built-in ribbon book-mark)

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. Talk about a series that went downhill fast...the original had one of the greatest stories and best voice acting ever seen in a game, plus the flay is the greatest item ever invented (seperates an opponent and his skin into two messy piles). Vaevictus! (Once I learned what this meant in Latin...and the story of it's historic usage after a sacking of Rome, Kain became even more of a bad-ass in my eyes)

Super Puzzle Fighter. There's a reason that copies of this game sell for as much as they do. I should have stolen it from work when I had the chance.

Grand Theft Auto I and II. Often overlooked because 3 was so revolutionary, but these are fun, sick, little games.

Gran Turismo I and II. Each game in the series stretches the limit of the console it is released on. The racing game that is so good that it actually made me learn something about cars (and I'm a shut-in ).

Persona. Ok, not a great game, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Anyone play the sequel and want to let me know how it is?

Tobal No. 2 is the game that everyone loves. #1 is pretty weak. I've never played #2 - I bought #1 though and can vouch for how bad it is.

Tobal #1 is the game that most people bought for the FFVII demo disc pack-in. Tobal 2 is as far beyond Tobal #1 as... let's say... GTA3 was beyond GTA2. And then some. I bought an original in '97 or so, and play it to this day.

Now, Squaresoft had some strange ideas when it came to marketing Dream Factory's fighting games. Tobal #1... US release. Tobal 2 (the one that is on many all-time-greatest lists, the one that all the magazines were screaming GET THIS about, the one that got sterling reviews across the board)... that one they don't localize. Ehrgeiz (similar engine, flashier graphics, but severely dumbed down from Tobal)... that gets a US release. HUH?

There is a guy who's created a patch file that creates an English-language version... but he hasn't figured out how to make it boot on a real PSX yet, even a modified one. It plays just fine on emulators, however.

Eternal Punishment is much better. Most of the issues that made it hard to enjoy Persona 1 were fixed. They got rid of the 1st person dungeons, made the world map actually navigable, and the load times aren't brutal. With the improved contact system and the added depth of Persona fusions, it's leaps and bounds ahead of Persona 1. Plus, there's the nifty anime scenes and better voice acting. I recently went back and started playing it again and found it to be one of the strongest rpgs on the Playstation.
