I've played two games so far, Houston-Rice and WVU-Virginia Tech. I think I only got sacked once by Rice (who is HORRIBLE, but Houston's not too good, either) but I got sacked quite a few times (as can be expected) by Virginia Tech.

I really like the way the field shifts when you are passing and scrambling around. I saw a lot of complaining on the GameFAQs board about too many dropped passes, but I have yet to notice that while playing, myself.

I like the shifting camera two, the first couple of times it happened I thought I was getting dizzy for some reason because the screen was moving, then I realized, "oh, the camera is moving".

I played another game against Tennessee and there weren't nearly as many sacks so I guess I was just playing a good team. Best moment so far was when i was at home (as Alabama) and was unranked and was beating #12 Tennesssee 28 - 7 with 2 minutes left. Then the crowd started chanting OVERRATED! OVERRATED! That was great.

I haven't been able to taunt yet, anybody know what buttons you press?

Generic Taunt: Hold any of the L or R buttons during a wide open run to prance toward the endzone.

Taunting Taunts: I'm not sure. I guess it just happens.

From gamefaqs.com -- for last years 2003 (also worked on 2002)
Touchdown celebrations:
Hold one of the following buttons immediately before scoring a touchdown at the risk of an unsportsman-like conduct penalty.

Point upwards: Press L1 or R1.
Hold up football: Press R2.
Shake football: Press L2.
Hold Triangle to start a touchdown dance when inside 20 yard line.

Huh.

Lee did the "Heisman pose", so what each button does may have changed.

Codes for NCAA 2004 -- from gamefaqs again

When you score a TD, the word "Touchdown" appears. When it first appears, press the following button combinations. Note: This could also get you an 15 yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty.

L2 + Square: Player spikes the ball, points to the crowd, then beats his chest.
L2 + Triangle: Player bows to the crowd.
L2 + Circle: Player spikes the ball, then shrugs his shoulder.
L2 + X: Player does Heisman Trophy pose.
R2 + Square: Player will dunk on the Goal Post.
R2 + Triangle: Player will punch the ball towards the crowd.
R2 + Circle: Player will kick the ball into the crowd.
R2 + X: Player will throw the ball to the crowd.

I am now OFFICIALLY in love with this game. All my other games are going to have to wait a while before they see the light of day.

Since I'm one of the many uberdorks who input all of the player names so they get imported into Madden, I like to play the rivalry games and try to win the trophies to break up the monotony of putting the names in. Plus, I'd only end up playing with Washington if I started my dynasty straight-away, and this gives me an excuse to play as other teams.

I'd won the Bayou Bucket with Houston by beating Rice 27-0. Rice is not good, but neither is Houston, really, so I was a little concerned that the game might be too easy defensively, since I held Rice to something like 60 total yards for the game. I then won the Black Diamond Trophy with West Virginia, beating Virginia Tech 21-11. It would've been 21-3 but for a 90-yard touchdown I gave up in the 4th quarter, but again, I totally shut down Virginia Tech's offense, including making 4 interceptions.

Last night I played for the Bronze Boot. Now, I've been deciding which team to play as by choosing the home team for this year's matchup. Colorado State is picked by the Sporting News (whose preview is EXCELLENT, btw) to win the Mountain West, while Wyoming is picked to finish last. Wyoming is hosting this year's game, so I take them, at home, to try and win the Bronze Boot.

FINAL SCORE: Colorado State 38, Wyoming 10.

I gave up an 82-yard TD run on a late option pitch by Van Pelt to Sanders and another 50-yard-ish TD run to Sanders where he just turned the corner and went away. No catching up by defenders who didn't have the angle or had no right running that fast (like in some football games). I move the ball pretty well but kept getting stopped in the field goal/go for it gray area around the 30, and got stopped there on fourth down a couple of times. I got closer and threw a pick that was returned 75 yards for a TD. Then, up 35-3 headed into the fourth quarter, the computer subbed in the second team. Too awesome.

I was just really glad to see that the game had SOME realistic tendencies as far as being able to pull off upsets. Now, of course, I'm going to play as Colorado State and blast the crap out of Wyoming, but I enjoyed the ass-kicking I got last night.

I don't know if the PS2 version has Dolby Digital capability like the Xbox version, but you should check it out if you do. It sounds like you're sitting directly in the middle of field. Plus, if you're in the closed end of the stadium (i.e. Ohio Stadium), the crowd gets LOUDER. Awesome. I also love how the announce team will note when you're getting close to breaking a school or NCAA record.

Plus, I love the new playfake. I don't know if that was implemented in Madden last year or not, but it adds a nice touch, especially when you're playing against someone else.

The computer AI is also better, especially on the harder levels. The computer will even sneak in some trick plays, although they don't really seem to work any better than previous versions.

My only complaints are little ones. It seems to be a little too easy to get sacks. Against Washington, I had 15 sacks, seven by one player alone. Also, the running game is as easy as ever. Maurice Clarett had 315 yards, as I STOMPED Washington 98-3. (Yes, JJD, I put that in there for your benefit. )

And for a game that touts it's "college traditions", they seem a little generic outside of Notre Dame and cheerleaders running around the end zone with flags. I haven't had a chance to play with many other teams yet, so there may be some other ones I've missed. I'm still waiting on Scrip Ohio, though. Where's my Script Ohio, EA? It's THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND, DAMMIT!

I was playing Air Force as Wofford and I was also pleasantly surprised to see that I lost, kind of weird saying that. I'm sure once i've played it a while i'll be able to beat anybody with anybody else but it's good to see that i'm not already kicking the crap out of the computer.

I personally have not yet had a good running game. So far passing has been much easier. I don't think i've used a team with good running backs yet though.

Also like JayJay I don't like playing a whole lot of games as one team right off the bat, that's why I like one change in the dynasty mode that you can play any game of the season not just your team's games. So if you're playing as Washington and want to take a break from them, well then play some other team's game for that week.

Has anyone tried out the recruiting option yet? If so, any advice on what seems to work in terms of both keeping and attracting players? Or, I'm curious as to what thoughts y'all have about the recruiting in this version vs. last year's version.

I'm playing the national championship game when I get home from work, so I'll let you know how I feel about recruiting afterwords.

My strategy for recruiting is to always get the guys who are interested in you first. Then after that I move to the people in my state and then I move to the people in the surrounding states. That way you can A) say location as the selling point and B) it takes less recruiting points. Also, make sure to stay in your recruiting range. If you're Army (like I am) then there is no use wasting your time on five star players. Pretty simple stuff. I like the recruiting better because the players being recruited will actually respond to you making the right selling point or having the right kind of style of ball at your program.

As for players leaving early...I'm Army, players aren't good enough to leave early.

Another great thing they added that nobody has said anything about was The Greatest Games section in dynasty mode. Based on how good a game you play is it will give you a score and keep a list of your greatest games. So far my greatest game has been USF 28 Army (me) 31, it got a score of 1395. Anybody have any greatest games scored?

Also I hear that if your team does well enough a conference can offer you a spot in their conference, anybody have this happen yet?

I got a Greatest Games score today of 993 in an OU-Texas game that I won 31-28 (as OU) after trailing 28-7. There was a last-second FG after OU's 2nd-string QB led three successive scoring drives. Not quite 1395, though.

There are a bunch of posts on GameFAQs message board with teams getting invited to conference, like a guy who made a team and got invited to replace Cal in the Pac-10.

Well I'm playing as Michigan for my first time through. Only got two games from my first season ranked as great games, and those were the two close ones against Ohio St. and VT in the title game, don't know what the rating was though.
As for recruiting, I like that I can convince players to return, however I didn't relize that I was sacraficing week 1 recruiting points. So keeping my #1 reciever, when I had plenty of depth there, was a waste. But keeping my all american LG was worth it.
On to recruiting, my RBs were stacked so nobody was interested, however I had one returning QB so everyone wanted to come and play. I also needed a FB but since I never give them the ball I couldn't find any 4 or 5 star players who wanted anything to do with me. It seems that the AI takes into acount you playing style and needs much better than in the past.

Yeah I cleaned out the Sun Belt and added some of my favorite I-AA schools. I played as Western Kentucky and won the conference my first season. I then shocked in-state rival Louisville in the New Orleans Bowl 24-21 (greatness score 1325). The next season I won the conference again (barely- thanks to Georgia Southern's running game) but was trounced in the New Orleans Bowl by Tulane.

After that season the SEC invited me in and dropped Vandy. Vandy replaced me in the Sun Belt and I went on to get flat out whooped in the SEC for two seasons. Finally I was offered a job at Houston mercifully escaped Bowling Green.

Yeah I am WAY too in to this game, but NCAA has been my favorite game for the last three years or so.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

EA says they were going to start charging a fee either this football season or next, I can not remember.
