Okay, after recently beating the last campaign in Warcraft III, I've tried my hand at battle.net and, to put it mildly, I'm getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis.
My main problem seems to be "building up faster" which is what everyone tells me the problem is. By the time I get a small force of 8 or 10 going, my oppoent has 30-40 guys kicking my ass and winning the game. Are there any specific tips I can be given to increase my production efficiency or is speed just something I have to make a habit of and can't be taught?
Okay, I'll admit I haven't played as much multiplayer War3 as I have Starcraft (not to mention most of my multi War3 has been custom games - too much fun), but there are some basic tips for "building faster."
Hotkeys. Learn 'em, use 'em, love 'em. I used to be able to hold my own as Terran just because I could slam out stuff really fast due to that. Also, shift-queueing your guys after building is a good idea. War3 also has the multiple building option set for group control (which is nice), so you can always use that to build up while you're paying more attention to other, more important stuff.
Do you scout at all? That could help matters somewhat, as you can use unit counters to your benefit. However, I'm not even close to an expert on that, so I'll leave that discussion to someone else.
Those might help you a little bit. Worse comes to worse, just play some practice games against the computer to hone your skills.
