Looking back, I got my money's worth just by Rock's promo on those the NWO. I don't know why people would say its being waisted on PPV. If you give people something extra like you are supposed to on a PPV then they will buy more. I think the WWF tends to throw too much on live TV.

The undercard in my opnion was a lot better than expected and the PPV as a whole was good. Granted, last year's No Way Out was far better in match quality, but I didn't see the guys dog it tonight. I think the dead crowd and no high spots at all caused this PPV to look bad. I am a fan of the ECW match style and not the traditional mat wrestling style which the smarks want, but gets boring after three matches. I like high spots, chair shots and the occasional Holy Shit that guy should be dead move. The mat wrestling last night was very good for the WWF, but it left a lot to be desired for the WWF fans who want to see someone go through a table or the destruction of the announcing tables by Rock Bottom or Pedgiree. Its become traditional for the fans and almost disappointing when it doesn';t happen.

My thoughts:

Tag Team Turmoil was a Hal Gurnee Network Time Killer.

RVD/Goldust stole the show. A nice, solid match with back-and-forth momentum, lots of 2.99 counts, near-falls teased from non-finishers that the crowd actually BOUGHT, Dustin channeling Larry Zbyszko with his stalling routine and a clean finish. A perfectly fine match where I didn't expect to see one.

There is nothing wrong with Tazz and Spike, but their days as champs are numbered.

Please let this be the absolute end of the Edge/Regal feud.

Five minutes into Rock/Undertaker, I pulled out my NeoGeo Pocket Color and played a few games. It was that involving. The Rock's Razor/Diesel promo was his one bright spot all night.

I was the ONLY man in the sports bar cheering when Angle got the win. The camera angle was perfect on Steph's elbowdrop, as those watching on TV had no idea it was coming. Great faces from Angle throughout and afterwards, generic Sports Entertainment apart from that.

Jericho got squashed but retained the belt through nefarious means. Damn, after Angle beat HHH, I was impressed that they had the balls to book THAT. Not that it'll last; I'd love to see Angle/Jericho one more time, but it's not gonna happen at Wrestlemania. The match was straight from the 1990 NWA archives, with Jericho channeling Weaselly Heel Flair against the dangerous offense of Lex Austin.

Poor Jericho. Finisher #1 (the Lionsault) looked silly out there, Finisher #2 (the Breakdown) on the belt got a two-count, and he tapped to his own Finisher #3. Even cheat-to-win heels need a LITTLE offense.

Oh, yes, the nWold... The in-jokes at the beginning were cute, but their novelty will wear off quickly. They got a disturbing pop from much of the crowd at the sports bar I was at, even during the Austin beatdown. Nothing here that we haven't seen before and cringed at -- this isn't a dangerous heel force, it's three old-timers being witty, playing to the crowd and recycling old gimmicks. Sort of like the Three Stooges in the Curly Joe DeRita years, when they were old and desperate and spoke directly to the camera...

I smell a three-way or four-way main event at Mania, but I smelled that before this show got started.

Poor Jericho? Jericho is on TOP of the wrestling world right now. I would have never thought that they would have put him over Rock and Jericho at one PPV, then Rock at the next and finally Austin at this one. Amazing. I didn't think the WWF had that kind of confidence in him. All the naysayers *cough* Bob Ryder *cough* said that Jericho's jump to the WWF was a mistake because he wasn't in the main event right away. Now Jericho can sit back and laugh at everyone else, as he has held every single heavyweight title there is to hold in the WWF- an acomplishment that no other has yet to achieve.

I agree 100%, and this is why, speaking as a consumer if nothing else, I wasn't at all satisfied with the show.
Also: Someone said it upthread (I apologize for forgetting your name) about the last 3 matches: I've seen these guys wrestle each other in varying combinations FOR FREE over and over the last 2 months or so. If I'm going to be paying, you'd better show me something holy-shit new.
And for the nWo beatdown to really make the proper impression, after the Austin spraypainting, Hogan should have cut a heel promo mirroring the infamous Bash at the Beach spot. Hell, I could have even written it for 'em.
"This is what happens when you get too big for your britches. Yeah, we're old, this is our last ride, we're probably gonna retire, which means we don't give a shit! About anyone or anything! So yeah, Vince, thanks for giving us the chance ... sucker. Reap the whirlwind, brother."
Or something like that.

I believe that is what most of us expected, SerWolfe..
Not that that is a bad thing..

I am exited about this stuff..let's hope they follow it up with a good Raw, advancing the HHH/ANgle story (does anybody believe H wont come after him or his title shot?) and the nWo..
And I don't think Rock vs Taker is over..Rock will defend Flair or something..

Believe me, I'm not COMPLAINING about the Jericho-as-sneaky-heel-champion push. The problem is that you and I are two of the ten people who aren't, and one of the reasons for that is what I referred to -- in the eyes of the casual fan, Jericho has no measurable offense against the big names.

The weakness of the Lionsault doesn't help; the opponent needs to be placed just about perfectly for it to hit with any force. (Austin was far too far away last night, and it didn't look any better the second time.) The Breakdown was added as an attempt to give him a credible non-submission finisher, and we saw how well THAT worked last night. The Walls have gotten him wins, but Austin had more success with Jericho's own finisher last night then Jericho did.

Sure, he's the champ -- but he's in the same boat that Angle was during his first world title run. He gets wins, but they're seen as flukes by the masses. Jericho is far too talented to be getting Honky Tonk Man heat, but right now he is...

Well...
nWo: Liked it. The opening promo and backstage stuff almost made me forget they were going to run in at the end, which did indeed make it kind of surprising. Plus, the Rock rulez for that promo.
TagTeamTurmoil: Neutral. Didn't really care for most of it, but, DAMN, Billy Gunn can sell.
From this point on, I missed it, until...
HHH/Angle: Pretty good, but goddammit get off my TV Steph! Anyway, with Angle going over, it looked like a guarandamnteed Austin win, right? Right?
Austin/Jericho: Loved it. Good, if predictable, way to bring in nWo for real. And Jericho gets to keep the belts, which I like. But what about Maven???
j/k
Anyway, I think they'll likely go with a triple threat for the title, with HHH somehow getting back in the picture.
OR this scenario:
Three on three tag match:
NwO versus Austin Rock and a mystery partner....
who is revealed by Ric Flair to be....
his longtime nemesis....
STING!

Okay, so it won't happen, but...I can hope...

Insert clever comment.

I liked the ppv and i can't wait for tonight. The opening nWo promo was good, and i think Hogan could have milked those cheers for another minute or so and it would have been just as loud. I am glad to see him back. I don't think they will be giving away Hogan/Austin on Raw tonight though. Maybe tease it and have the screwjob before it starts, but there is no way i see that the match happens. The angle just started. Why waste one of the two biggest money matches on the first night? Overall good ppv, despite the crowd.

i guess yeah in a way some of us expected austin to get a beat down as the night went on... but honestly leading up to the ppv i was expecting flair to get nailed first... either way it still has me pretty excited...

It should be fun seeing Flair and Taker in eihter a wrestling match or a cage match. I think either way is a good thing for these two. I don't know if the Rock's popularity is dying down or the fact that the WWF really has stopped turning Taker heel has caused him to get these pops. If the WWF took the Rolling Song and his bike away and just come out to a new son and walk to the ring, then there wouldn't be this type of pops.

I also think the fans appericate Taker being this old and still going out giving it his all. Same goes for Flair, the fans know he can't wrestle that well, but they appericate the fact he busts his ass when his in the ring. Its hard not to like Taker unless you are a self absord mark who masterbates every time a Canadian is on your screen. Hi Scott.

taker pops: remember, at the height of his heeldom, triple h was getting huge entrance pops. taker's being booked the way he needs to be booked, imo.

flair/taker: maybe we'll see vince and taker taking on flair and a mystery opponent at the ppv. his current fued with the rock could really be something if they take it up a notch though. they could parlay taker's chair to the throat move into an injury angle - it'd be nice to see rock come out and not be able to talk.

angle/hunter: something tells me there will be a rematch tonight or an outright reversal by linda mcmahon. the jericho/hunter match just has too many layers to pass up, whereas jericho/angle would be Just Another Match.

of course, maybe hunter will factor into the nwo storyline somehow and that's why he lost the match. still, his "little things" against stephanie (waving bye bye, laughing at her on the floor) were great examples of sports entertainmentship. the wrestlemania main event needs that.

I was expecting maybe a Hogan leg drop on Austin. But I suppose Austin didn`t want any of the guys to hit their finishers on him, which would explain why Hall was using a diamond cutter.

For the nWo run-in to have any PPV balls at all, they would have put the boots to both Austin AND Jericho.
I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Vince hire them to be The Poison That Destroys The WWF?
So shouldn't they be wreaking havoc on heel and face alike?
And another thing: why didn't anyone come out to help Austin? Meaning, whoever booked it is an idiot. If they're not going to have Hogan cut a promo after the spraypainting, then at least show some brains (and show us some f'in entertainment) by having someone try to make the save.

I was thinking the same thing. Flair cuts a promo talking about how many guys he's got lined up just waiting for a reason to take the nWold out, and when the time comes, NOBODY COMES OUT!

Why didn't anyone save Austin?

Because he is portrayed as a loner, The Rattlesnake, with a 'Trust no one' philosophy, middle fingers to everyone, etc. Austin humiliated everyone in the locker room. The nWo did well to pick on Austin first.

Besides, no one had the presence of mind to pack The Crow make-up equipment kit, some rapelling rope, and The Black Whiffle Ball Bat of Justice.
