Today they intentionally walked him in the 8th inning of a tie game with nobody on base and nobody out. Previously he tied the game off Pedro.

This is my candidate for best regular season game of the year. It teaches a lot of lessons.

1. Screw the players choices, Pedro Martinez and Mike Mussina are hands down the best pitchers in American League.

2. Pedro hits many more batters than Clemens and doesn't get any shit for doing it. Next game they play, they Yankees need Clemens to act as their enforcer and go headhunting.

3. Jason Giambi is the most feared hitter in the American League.

4. Byung-Yun Kim is no Mariano Rivera.

5. 1918

1. True

2. Debatable. Pedro had just the same reputation of throwing inside when he was in the NL, and actually, you know, had to hit(from what I've read), Unlike your boy Roger. He hit Jeter on the back hand. If Jeter is so great, why couldn't he get out of the way? Soriano got hit as he was swinging the ball, this is hardly head hunting as you seemingly have implied. On average, Pedro has .8 more hit batsmen per season in his career than does Roger. Both guys like to pitch inside to establish that part of the plate. More pitchers should have that attitude.

3. Probably true, I know I wouldn't want to face him.

4. No shit, really? I wasn't aware that anyone was comparing the two.

5. Your point?

Feared or not, Giambi is not the best hitter in the American league. I think that's the Yankee ego talking.

And as far as Pedro vs. Clemens: Clemens has earned whatever treatment he gets. Throwing the bat at Piazza? Grow up, Roger. Roger gets shit because Roger asks for shit; he doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. Furthermore, , this whole thing started with a ball about eye-level on Millar, so I don't think Clemens needs to be any more aggressive than he already is (a level which is fine by me).

Yes and if the players realy cared about winning the all-star game Pedro HAS to be on the team.

On the walking Giambi intentionally: Its about time the Foghorn Leghorn on crack cocaine manager of the Red Sox decided not to fool around with the main threat in the line-up. When Ruben Sierra is batting behind Giambi, you take your shot against him. If he did it against the Phillies and Marlins, they'd have 2 more wins this season.
On Pedro giving Soriano (on a strike) and Jeter boo-boo's: Maybe they should have gotten out of the way quicker. That's what Clemens said when Millar was hit Saturday. And, perhaps Jeter and Soriano should tell Clemens to keep his mouth shut about throwing at Ortiz next time they face him until after the series is over.
As for Pedro on the All-Star team: I hope he never goes to an All-Star game again. The '99 game is what screwed up his arm initially.
True, Kim is no Rivera. Kim owns a 2001 World Series ring, while Mariano doesn't.
As for 1918: I've got a 1918 World Series Champs sweatshirt, so hell, I always celebrate it because thats a year WE WON.

If Vince would just hire Dick Dastardly and Muttly and tell them to Catch the Pigeon, it would draw at least an 8 rating.

"This is my candidate for best regular season game of the year. It teaches a lot of lessons."

Saw bits and pieces of it, and I'm'a have to agree with you. That. Was one hell of a game. How long before it's an Instant Classic?

"1. Screw the players choices, Pedro Martinez and Mike Mussina are hands down the best pitchers in American League."

Much agreed. They probably didn't have the best first halves, but we'll see how things shake out.

"2. Pedro hits many more batters than Clemens and doesn't get any shit for doing it. Next game they play, they Yankees need Clemens to act as their enforcer and go headhunting."

No, no, no. As has been said, Pedro goes out and claims the inside. Clemens sometimes claims the inside, sometimes headhunts, and sometimes just acts like a jackass. I didn't see the plonkings, but it's not like Pedro was going all Dock Ellis on them, from what I see.

"3. Jason Giambi is the most feared hitter in the American League."

Yes, but who's got the most feared offense? We will be the Ren to your pitching staff's Stimpy. Ask Clemens y Wells how they feel.

"4. Byung-Yun Kim is no Mariano Rivera."

...so? How old is he again? 23? 24? He's young and whups ass. We have a closer for once this season. No complaints here.

"5. 1918"

Oh, come on. At least find some NEW material.

1)You are on the mark. Mike Mussina doesn't get the props he should, and Pedro would have more wins with a better bullpen.

2)I have heard almost as much talk on Pedro as I have of Clemens. As stated above, it's the bat throwing and trash talk that Clemens gets heat for, all power pitchers will get up in your chest if you hang over the center of the plate(as they should). I think Soriano is a great player, he just hangs over the plate too much. I'm shocked more pitchers don't trow at Soriano to take the plate back. I think Jeter wanted to walk, he steped up and tried to crowd the plate(not as much as Alfonso). The Yanks mindset was to get Pedro out and attack the bullpen, Jeter wanted to get on base and tried to take the hit(but, didn't plan on taking it on the wrist).

3)Not at the start of this year, but he is up there. I think A-Rod is the best, after that it's up in the air Giambi, Manny, Ichiro(not power wise, for Avg.).

4)True, but I hate to admit it as a fan of the Red Sox. Kim is young he and could become as good as Rivera, does he stay a closer though? I think Kim could be a real good starter.

5)Was a very good year.

1. Of course, which is probably why they weren't picked.

2. His HBP numbers are higher, but Pedro's trying to pitch inside and there's so much crowding the plate and wasting time out of the box, not to mention the 'armor'.

3. Delgado is for the moment.

4. Probably shouldn't have given up the two hits, but Walker should have gotten the bloop as well. Mariano's looking more mortal as the years go by anyway.

1. Normally, I'd be one to agree, but Roy Halladay is on a fucking roll right now and you have to respect that, even if he did steal the Cy Young from Petitte in 1996.

2. This is why I don't like Pedro, and it's also why I can't stand Boston fans who hate Clemens without having a right to. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...

3. That'd be affirmative. Screw his May - the last guy in the AL I'd want to be facing with the game on the line is Giambi.

4. I was so glad when the Arizona-Boston trade for Kim was made. It means our personal punching bag (Games 4 & 5, 2001) is back where we can torment him even more.

5. Amen, brother brother.

You do remember it was Pat Hentgen who won the Cy Young in '96, as Halladay wasn't in the majors until a few years later.

Yeah, that sure was a great series for the Yankees. No, wait...

1. As much as I would like the best pitchers to be out there, and I agree that Moose and Pedro might just be in the top five or so, you can't knock Halladay being in there. He has been terrific pretty much the whole season, and they always look for new blood.

2. Clemens and Pedro is always a great battle - not necessarily on the mound, but in a contest of who is a bigger fucking douchebag. They can both piss off. Kevin Millar, also.

3. Trying not to be a Yankees shill, but Giambi has to be in the top 5 hitters in the AL. Delgado is hot, Arod is great, Edgar is awesome, but Giambi has almost been carrying the Yanks since they came off of their shnide. One can look at his batting average and see how shitty he began the year, but looky now, he is batting .270 with 23 taters. Not too shabby, considering the guy was batting .189 on 5/2/03. This lineup will get better today or tomorrow when Bernie comes back, and then 3 more weeks Nick the Stick returns - their presence can only make Giambi better, IMO. I can see them going after another reliever or two, maybe Gabe White or one of the two Angels studs (CBS sportsline claimed as a rumor a possibility of perhaps Weaver to CA for Rodriguez or Donnelly.

4. I do think Kim is terrific, and in his early 20's, I would have loved to see the Yanks get him. I would have been doing a jig if the Sox wound up with Lionel Jefferson....er...Armando Benitez.

The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you.

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

And how did Kim do in that series? And how did he do yesterday for that matter? Boston could have been 2 back instead of 4.

How about those rumors of Benitez going to Boston? Because he's always a clutch pitcher in a big game.

Yeah, because closers ALWAYS succeed in nonsave situations...not like he walked the guy in etc., should've been a play at the plate or at least lose on a forceout.
