It's to have a day off once in a while. So, how am I spending this 4th of July? Watching Smackdown, and then spending the rest of the day watching baseball on the Extra Innings package. What a life. I also have to think about my trip to Branson starting next Saturday (7/12). Next week, I will do my opinions for the wrestling programs, but the week after I will be on vacation. And the next week, I will not do any writings on the television programs because it will be catch up time for us. We will still TiVo Raw and Smackdown, and we will watch them for the week I am gone early in the next week, and then the week of the 19th will be seen a little later in the week (subject to change). Anyway, it is time for my opinions of Smackdown, which I finished about 15 minutes ago.

1) Vince...what is with that shirt? He says that he has the fate of Mr. America? We'll see. To the match...Mysterio/Nunzio...ok match, but I was distracted by the first row. If anyone in the Rochester area knows whose heads are those, please notify. It kept me away from the action. Kidman comes out, I say in a few weeks, they will be in each other's throats.

2) Angle/Lesnar talk, eat, drink and be merry. Whoopee!!! And these two are supposed to be in the main event.

3) Bashams/Rhyno & Benoit...ok match, nothing much to say, except that delays the Rhyno/Benoit split for another week.

4) Nidia/Noble...last week after they received the inheritance, my dad was wondering now what. Well, nothing much, just the same ole selves with money.

5) Jordan/UT/Cena...next.

6) Cena/Gunn...good match, anyway, did you notice a couple of the stagehands putting the steps together in the background at the end of the match.

7) Brock/Angle pushups...just finish 300 pushups and then get left alone...thanks,Kurt.

8) Haas/Benjamin vs Tajiri/Guerrero...good match, nasty spill by Tajiri on the truck. Hey, my team are the new tag champs again. I knew they were going to break out when they came in, and it is now time. LOL on Guerrero worried about the truck.

9) Guerrero/Tajiri...I knew it wasn't going to last. Anyway, If Eddy was worried about the truck before, why smash Tajiri against it, breaking the windshield? Well, Eddy is a heel now, ok.

10) Jordan/A-Train...next.

11) Vince/Sable come out...after program end footage. Another thing I thought it wasn't going to last, but not as long as I thought. I thought Summerslam, but Hogan/Mr. America/whoever you are is gone. The average age of the Smackdown locker room has dropped significantly the last couple of weeks. Good. Put Big Show in the PPV main event, just because they need a heel in the match.

12) Zach/Steph vs Big Show...3 words...I AM IMPRESSED!!! It was a great match because of the novelty factor. After reading about him on the different sites, I could not wait to see him wrestle. I knew the no-DQ stip was going to help Zach out. A little LOL for Stephanie, probably making her first ever high risk manuver. A leap onto the Big Show's shoulders. But, I have to feel a little sorry for the Big Show. In the last few months, he looked like a goof with Rey Mysterio, but ended up in the main event on a PPV. Then he ends up in a match on Smackdown against Lesnar, and the ring collapses. Now, he's in the main event at Vengeance, but loses to a team of the Smackdown GM who is not a wrestler, and was pinned by a one-legged wrestler. Finally, I wonder how they will use Zach in the future.

Hope the rest of your holiday goes well. And I will see you later.

I'm not sure what to think of Smackdown. It was good in some parts, weak in others. The main was hot for sure, and Zach's none too shabby (in looks and moves). I'd feel a whole lot better about Steph in the ring if she used a ponytail holder.. I thought Angle and Brock together was hilarious, personally. I have to admit that Big Show has been very creepy (in a good way, not the Vince McMahon way) in the last couple of weeks, especially with Steph. It would've worked even better had Show's tight abs did pin Steph to the wall, LOL!

Cena was funny last night too towards Mr. Ass, because it was all true (probably). The best angle on Smackdown (or is it still Velocity?) in my opinion - Noble and Nidia. Love em! So, I guess Vince and Sable's back to knocking boots, eh? Go ahead Big Mac, see what happens in 2 years if you keep this up. Mr. America WAS Hogan?!?! What the F#$K?! Seriously, did they really think we were gullible enough to not think that was Hogan? At first it was funny, but seriously...

The Tag team match with Eddie and Tajiri was good, the end with Tajiri on the car was kinda funny. Don't ask me why. But, a show without Mattitude doesn't go down easy with me. Good, but not great.

saturn93- I was at the arena, but never had a good view of who the heads were. I noticed them, but that was about it.

I really enjoyed Smackdown! when I went to Rochester, and I thought it translated well on TV. Yes, the Rochester crowd was behind Cena because a) his rap was the SHIT and b) he's wrestling Billy f'n Gunn. I was disappointed that they cut the rap short. Another thing I noticed while watching it- the ring announcer referred to Haas and Benjamin as "The Best Damn Tag Team Period", but that was edited out on TV, for obvious reasons I guess. All I have to say is that Eddie Guerrero was the Smackdown MVP. The best part aside from his tag rope antics was when the crowd was chanting "cheat, cheat, cheat!", so he did! The man is awesome.

I once again forced my mark friends to watch smackdown and everyone watching was marking out of Gowen! The 1 leg dropkick, the beating he took and the finish to the match just made for great TV! Also with the great tag match and turn after this show was extreamly good.

Good show, the tag match was GREAT (the Title one, not Bashams vs Benoit and Rhyno--thought that was fun too), and Big Show being put in the main event makes sense. It seems to be long-term planning somewhat. Brock vs Angle is obviously the main event of SummerSlam for Smackdown. You don't want them squaring off the month before and having to have a cheap ending or one of them beating the other. With the Big Show in, he can lose to make Angle champ or Brock can beat him to retain. Also, he works well with Brock and Angle works well with anyone, so it should be good. Also Gowen should be a cruiserweight, he could add publicity to the division, and running the ropes wouldn't matter that much when wrestling say, Ultimo or Rey. And I figure Gowen could pull some crazy moves, like a one-legged flying head scissors into a tornado DDT or something.

I'm with Omega on the pacing of Angle / Lesnar. If this really is Kurt's last year in the ring, then he should go out with a great, year long program that we'll be talking about five years from now.

Having them tag against Shelton and Haas at Summerslam is brilliant. Put the pay off at Wrestlemania and it's right in line with "The Mega Powers Explode."

Regardless, I hope they keep Angle and Lesnar as a tag team for a couple of months to really give the angle some meat.

Oh Gosh, I'm the outcast on this board once again. Pardon me but I'm going to be very bitter now. I did NOT want to see that main event, and I wasnt impressed I more just freaked out. Gee Kane, looks like your unmasking is officially upstaged. Maybe Gowen can be your new tag partner, "Little Big Freaks" or something. Seriously, I think Vince has finally lost his mind for good. Today 1-legged 19 year-olds, tomorrow what? Look, "nobody likes a good laugh more than I do"(me and Lance), but come on, leave that stuff sideshow not for FUCKING MAIN EVENT WRESTLING. If this doesn't make Vince Sr. roll in his grave I don't know what will.

Think about it guys, could you have possibly imagined a 1-legged, hopping, skinny kid wrestling a WWE main-event even a year ago, and in a match where he pins a 7 foot giant? This stuff would look better on Juggalo Championshit Wrestling. Or atleast in WCW David-Arquette-winning-World-title era.

Yes, WWE is becoming a serious joke, and not a funny one either. Like, yeah, fuck everyone else lets give the handicap a main-event push. Is Droz going to return as the amazing wheelchaired wrestler?

Go home Vince and Zach Gowen. I want the WWF back.

Well, I *might* have been able to imagine it, but I don't think I would have pictured him as being the fastest of the three competitors in the ring, let alone probably the most technically proficient.

This stuff would look better on Juggalo Championshit Wrestling.

Heh... if people thought a necrophilia storyline was bad, they should try watching a federation where the reigning world champion is dead.

Bitching about Zach being in the main event is fine but bitching about him getting the pin is pointless. Big Show took a chair to the face, the ankle lock and then an F5. I'd be concerned if Show didn't get pinned under those circumstances.

Don't forget, he also took an Angle Slam. Kayfabe wise, he should have been comatose.

So because he happens to be handicapped he isn't a real person anymore? I don't get pissed off too often but thats a pretty fucked up point of view you've got there Darkmatcher. I'm sorry you find him to be a "freak" but he can still wrestle you bigoted monster, and oddly enough he is still a human being.

Do you honestly think that's the way they're marketing him? They're exploiting him. Even Gowen himself said he wouldn't have a contract if it weren't for his handicap. Someone said that I shouldn't blame him for accepting it, and ok, I won't, but I'll blame Vince for being crazy enough to do it.

And are you honestly going to tell me he looked normal out there, bouncing around like a hyperactive kangaroo? Open up your eyes, there are standards that are already set that can't be changed overnight, and this is so highly uncharacteristic that it comes off as too awkward looking. Look, I've no problem that he's handicapped, but the WWE is no place for this. That's my view and I'm sticking by it, even it it makes me a "bigoted monster", you whiner.

What he was doing out there was a bunch of acrobatic stunts, not wrestling. This is why I'm no Jeff Hardy fan.

And my problem is not merely with him pinning Big Show. Its that his match was against the Big Show. This seemed all set up to look like some cat vs mouse kind of cartoonish joke. This is pro-wrestling..and I'd like to see some more of that. Even so, this kid wasn't sent out to prove himself in a standard wrestling match. It was a cartoonish gimmick, via Doink/Dink/Mantaur/Kamala era. That's an embarassing way to debut, even with the Sable nonsense already on his track record.

Pardon me for having a differing opinion. I'll still watch to see where this goes but I'm not going to deny that I simply don't like what I've seen.

PS: That "freak" comment was a joke. Lighten up buddy.

Darkmatcher,

Zach is more of an attraction than a wrestler. So it's better for him to be in a sports entertainment match like on Smackdown! than a competitive match against say, Nunzio. For what he can do, they booked him just right. (Although I think they should have popped his cork a while ago.)

You have a good point about "Vince being crazy enough to try it." If business weren't the way it is Zach would have had the X title by now. Vince never would have hired him. I agree.

I don't think Vince is necessarily crazy for it though. I also don't think that the angle's that bad. As an attraction he's a better worker than Lita was when she debuted as a valet with two moves. As a character he's a good foil for McMahon. When he gave Vince what-for in his promo he came off as believable as Austin did back in the day. I thought he was better at mouthing off to McMahon than Hogan was. (And there's something to be said about performers having to do that to get over. Anyway.)

And yeah, he is a freak. But he's a dangerous freak. And he's our freak. ;)

Damn, I'm so pissed that I screwed up taping this show! I'll see the highlights on Velocity tonight, but the Tag-title match sounds like the sort of thing I'd want to see in its entirety, and preserve for re-viewing. Oh well...

Well, Bischoff said that if D'Lo and Stasiak didn't impress him, there would be hell to pay, so he clearly was supposed to have known about the Island Boys, so I'm pretty sure they are on RAW, even if they haven't come right out and said it yet.
