And more so than the Hebner shuffle before the pinfall will be counted to three. Why in the blue hell does Patrick think that he needs to lift the pin-ee's shoulder up in the downswing of his three count?
Now I understand that he can have his hand in there checking to see if the shoulder blades are down, that's fine - but he's driving me crazy with lifting up the wrestler's shoulders on the near-fall. Does the worker need that nudge to let him know to kick out? I didn't think he did, but I've been wrong plenty of times before..
It just really irks me. Is it just me, am I upset over nothing? Has anyone else noticed this? Does it bother anyone else?
I never really noticed it, so I think you are getting upset over nothing. I do hate it that he is always made to look like he is either crooked or has no idea how to do his job. I guess it is hard to shake that old "NWO ref" image...

I hate Nick Patrick with a passion. Well, I think it is Nick Patrick. Go back and watch the HHH/Booker match at WMXIX, I think that's Nick Patrick. Anyway, just watch that match, he is WAY too involved with the action that he showed be. He breaks up stuff way too fast, and gets in between them when they use fists to punch. He needs to calm down, lay low, make a three count, and watch for a tapout. That's about it. Either he is really nervous and doesn't know what to do, or he thinks he is really really important in the match (which a ref can be, but not in any average match).
Anyway, yea that's all, hope somebody else notices this too.

These are the things I *LIKE* about Nick Patrick. Each ref should have his own personality, cadence, etc. It should matter who is named as the referee for a match, how tolerant they are to closed fists, corner breakups, in general how do they call a match? It allows the workers to tell a different, deeper story in their matches, based on what the heel can get away with, et al.

So the World Title match at Wrestlemania was just an average match?
I don't like Nick Patrick because he's nine foot five and he drawfs anyone not designated under the categorization of hoss.
Referees and backstage interviewers need to be really, really small in my opinion. Even Coach looks like he can kick some ass, to the point where I have to wonder why he takes so much guff.
"Whatever I just posted above is what your mother said in bed last night."
I remember a Torch piece that bitched about Bubba Dudley not bothering to raise one his shoulders for a two count. I don't really pay attention to it unless it's a glaring error. I swear, half the time it sounds like a four count to me. Or the guy kicks out at three.
So it's possible that Nick could be doing it to nudge the wrestler just in case. I've never noticed him doing that either though.

I agree. I think Brian Hebner is doing fine in this role, though I really really despise Earl.
But Brian is getting a rep as a ref who doesn't take crap. He throws people out of matches and makes sure illegal objects are not being used. It's gotten to the point where if I see he is reffing the match I think its going to be a cleaner match and the face will probably win. I don't know if this is by the design or if I am the only person who has noticed this, but it's just something I've noticed.
I also sometimes hear a four count in some matches, but that's just because Patrick has a bad habit of falling to the ground with his arms flat to brace his fall.
I still think Marella (sp) was a great ref. Small enough to make anyone look impressive, yet not in a Tim White way where it looks like they too the makeup off of Dink The Clown just to get the smallest guy available.

On the Smackdown side I like Jimmy Korderas, he's been in the WWE forever. I kind of feel for him never really able to advance more then mid-card ref. I've seen Baby Hebner ref more important matches the Korderas. Korderas always seem to be on the ball
My favourite ref is Little Naitch, Charles Robinson. He seems to be the unoffical Raw Divas ref which I'm guessing it's not a bad gig to try to break a feisty Trish or Victoria off eachother when they don't listen to the 5 count LoL... Kidding aside I like when her refs, little guy bumps pretty good when connected as well
