William Regal, who has been off TV since the Raw tour of India, is apparently very close to returning to TV.
In recent interviews, Regal revealed that his probably return will be as a commissioner on Raw, acting as an intermediary between feuding GMs Eric Bischoff and Steve Austin.

This sounds like the worst idea ever for WWE. And that's saying something.
I wish Regal would retire permanently. He makes Lance Storm look like The Rock.
Regal is right up there with HHH in heel mic skills and his in ring work is very effective. You can't be seriously entertaining the idea that Storm is more charismatic as a heel than Regal?

The last thing Raw needs is yet another non-wrestler taking up airtime.

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!
Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!
I'm curious how they plan on making him an intermediary between Bischoff and Austin. It sounds like he'd be a tweener. Or I suppose he could just be aligned with Bischoff and take the Stunner whenever he has to break some bad news.
He was good as the plain old commissioner back before the Invasion screwed everything up. When it was just him and Taijiri taking commands from McMahon it was great.
What the hell are you talking about, I personally find Regal entertaining as hell. It may be that dry British humor, but I'd take his dry British humor over Jerry Lawler's 55 year old man in forever stuck in puberty facade.

The introduction of Tajiri to the WWF was one of the best things they ever managed not to screw up. He didn't do much at first, so we're all freaking out at how cool he is when he actually does something cool. For an example, see the Tarantula or the Mist(s).
Regal rules all. He got Tajiri over.
Your winner and 3-time Stanley Cup Champion...the New Jersey Devils! Their title defense begins in 4 months!
Now we can only hope that Regal's health problems sort themselves out and they somehow find a way to book a handicap match of Regal & Jericho vs. Goldberg. If that were to happen, I think I might just pay for my first WWE PPV since the first Survivor Series.
Depending on his health status, though, Regal might not be able to take a Stunner at all. Last I heard, he was still on blood thinners and couldn't take a single bump because he would bruise so easily. At that point, though, the consensus was that he might be off of the thinners in a couple of weeks or it might take several years. Hopefully, WWE.com will do another indepth story about his status.
If Regal has to come back a commish, send him to Smackdown so that show can have the feuding GMs thing.

If Regal can't come back to work stiff on the Disappointment, then the only position they should use him for is either to replace Lawler or recreate the 3 man RAW announce booth. The last thing they need now is another non-wrestler authority figure. Its getting close to the point where there are more authority figures that don't wrestle than actual wrestlers.
Where have you gone Gene Rayburn, a nation turns it lonely eyes to you.
He should mentor Lance Storm on the finer points of being entertaining in the ring. All the while, making Storm boring in the ring. Regal would tell him to take the springboard lariat out of his moveset and replace it with an exciting chinlock. Stuff like that.
I very much enjoyed Regal's work in the mid-90's WCW as World TV Champ but his style isn't condusive to WWE as a singles. I was starting to like him and Storm as a tag team before he got sick.
i like lance storm, i just think he's gotten the shaft as of late, look at his wcw run that stuff was classic, he was the most over heel in the company he should have been feuding with goldberg or booker t....oh well ill never see that happen not in the wwe, oh well life goes on, wake me up when there isnt wrestling on tv
While I think Regal WAS entertaining back in the Tajiri days, the whole UnAmericans gimmick just soured me on the guy. I remember groaning everytime Regal came out, which was like 15 times per show. Plus, I hear he's buddy's with Triple H and VinnyMac. No one should get a big TV push just because of that.
I've been trying not to be too negative about the current state of WWE, but I was wathcing 3 Faces of Foley yesterday, and man they knew what they were doing back then. I can't believe they totally flushed all their creativity down the toilet.
For example, the Mankind sit down interviews with JR. Talk about getting a guy over. That had depth, realism. A few months later, at SummerSlam, Mankind took off the mask, ripped open his shirt to reveal a heart-shaped tattoo and leaped from the top of the cage (sort of)like his idol Jimmy Snuka. It all tied together. Why can't they do that now. Oh, right. Stephanie's a no-talent hack, Vince has completely lost all touch with reality, and Vince Russo got demoted because he looked at Stephanie the wrong way.
Those were the days, and Foley truly is God (of wrestling).
Give the business back to the boys. They're the only reason I watch anyway.

Vince Russo took the WCW job and went on to prove he had far less "talent" than we all gave him credit for. Stephanie didn't have anything to do with it. I agree with the other two, though. :)
I believe the reference to Russo was concerning Russo's one-day return in the past year. He was hired to attend shows, then allegedly Stephanie didn't like the suggestions he had (before attending a single show) and was demoted immediately to "stay at home and phone in your ideas".
Russo is annoying when he books himself as a talent. I wouldn't mind seeing him in WWE if he was the mouthpiece for developmental talent. Somebody like Garrison Cade or Mark Jindrak. Whoever. But I think he's proven himself useless as a long-term booker. He's had his share of good luck and ran out long ago.

Thank you. Yes, that was what I was referring to. At least the storyliens had depth when Russo was around. Also, I think the wrestlers themselves had a lot more influence. Well, at least Foley did.
Back to Regal, so long as I once again get to hear him say, "Look at you, you miserable specimen," I'll be a happy man. And I agree that it would be nice to see him work at the announce table.
I could see him being a manager for a group of guys and calling it "The Gentleman's Club" and have them have a tea room in the back where they sit and chat and have them all dressed in suits. Then have Regal do commentary like they have Long do.....it could work.
