While coasting almost-undefeated through my season on NHL 2003 (1 loss, 1 tie), I was wondering if there ever was any team that ever went undefeated in the regular season?

Hell, the question could go for any sport.

Some of those old Habs teams were pretty great, and one of them probably came the closest. But having a perfect season in hockey is impossible...the only sport where it's feasible is football.

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!

One of the Montreal teams in the '70s went 60-8-12, which I'm pretty sure is the best record in NHL history, at least it is for an 80 or 82 game season. I'm working my way through a season with Colorado where I'm 67-7-4-1, and I had a 22-game stretch where I went 21-0-1. Only three games left until the playoffs!

The only team to go through a season undefeated is the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who went 14-0. The Bulls went 72-10 that one year ('96?) and the baseball record is 116 wins out of 152 games.

[OK, I looked it up and it was the '76-'77 Habs that got 132 points. Check out this ridiculous three-year run they had in the '70s.

1975-76 58-11-11 127 pts. (won division by 42)
1976-77 60-8-12 132 pts. (won division by 49)
1977-78 59-10-11 129 pts. (won division by 51)

I also discovered that the 1929-30 Bruins went 38-5-1, which prorated over 80 games would've been 140 points.]

Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.

I'm just thinking off the top of my head, but didn't Philly win the Cup in 75-76? For Montreal to have had that great a season and not win a Cup....wow. How Detroitish of them.

Nope. Montreal won the Cup all three years. Philly won the cup in a different year.

The only team to go undefeated for an entire season in any pro sport was the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Of course, football would be the only place where there would be a good chance of it happening, simply because they play so few games. (I believe the Dophins played 14 regular season games and 3 playoff games including the Super Bowl.)

Every year members of the team gather for a celebration when the last undefeated team in the NFL loses.

In the 1979-80 season the much hated (by me) Philly FlyBoys had a 35 game unbeaten streak (25-0-10) but then lost the in the CUP Finals to the even more hated (again by me) islanders - not a good year for this Rangers fan
