Watching that Year 2001 Special on TSN, really made me miss the sheer awesomeness of Benoit... I mean, Benoit/Jericho at the Rumble rocked, Benoit/Jericho/X-Pac/Guerrero at No Way Out rocked, Benoit/Angle at WrestleMania, Backlash and Judgment Day rocked, Benoit/Jericho/Austin rocked, Benoit/Jericho/HHH/Austin rocked... Man...there were a lot of good Benoit matches last year... *sniff* I hope he comes back soon...
Christ Benoit is definately one of the better technical wrestlers the WWF has on its roster. I hope he comes back soon. I can't wait for Benoit vs. Booker T or Benoit vs. Storm.
And who could forget the Edge & Christian created lyrics to his entrance music...
Chris Benoit is here and he's really mad. Chris Benoit is here and he's really an-GRY! Here it is in full the Chris Benoit song. Is there any wrestler who can prove him wrong?!
"I hear it's amazing when the gamouse purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!" -Colonel Campbell, Metal Gear Solid 2
Chris Benoit was GREAT. In the early 90's that is. His style just doesn't fit in the WWF, though, and trying to simplify his offense hasn't worked. His Internet wunderkind status, plus the fact that he has Dan Severn's charisma, makes me wonder in amazement when everyone says he's 'misused'.
I would maybe agree with the assertion that his style doesn't fit in the WWF, but...
He put on the best WWF match of the year in 2001. May 31st, against Austin, on Smackdown. Several other really good matches, too. He's an "Internet wunderkind" because various people on the Internet like watching his matches, I suppose.
I wouldn't say he's misused at this point, though, having gone out after a PPV Main Event title match. He would seem to be in that rank with Booker and formerly Jericho where he's been positioned as a credible title threat and will eventually bring it home.
Well, I always hear people saying that Benoit can't get over with the marks, etc. But when I first started watching wrestling in 99, I loved Benoit in WCW. And I had never heard the term workrate and so on. I dunno, that's just me, but I think it says a lot about how good he really is.

I agree. I had stopped watching wrestling for years, until I was lured back in by the Benoit/Booker T Best of 7 series, which was late '98, I believe. I didn't know anything about any angles that were going on at the time. It was quite obvious that Benoit was a serious ass-kicker.
I've never understood the whole "Benoit lacks mic skills" thing. Back during the nWo heyday, my friends and I completely ignored Hall, Nash, Hogan and Sting and became Benoit marks. Why? Because he's so COOL on the mic (seriously).
Take your basic four horsemen interview: Flair: "WOOO! MEAN WHOOO! GENE! JET-FLYING KISS-STEALIN WHOO WHOOO!" Etc. Ad infinitum, ad nauseum
Benoit: (with menacing look) Chris Benoit...the CRIPPLER...FOUR HORSEMEN...(flashes four fingers)
My thoughts exactly, Parts Unknown, Benoit's mic skills are good enough ..
One of the best moments in 96-2000 WCW was when the Horsemen walked into some building and somebody wanted an interview. They all just walked by, and Benoit held up his hand saying 'talk to the hand' ..Who needs 20 minute promos when you can do just that.
The point is, Benoit might not be amazing on the mic but he doesn't need it. He can bring his point across and then destroy you in the ring. What more can you ask for?
What I don't understand is how Benoit's style could not "fit" into the WWF. From January-June 2001, Benoit stepped up his game and put on some freaking-amazing matches and continued to rise up the card. I mean, he was in the Main Event at King of the Ring! If only he didn't get injured, who knows how much higher he could have gone. Nevertheless, if Benoit's style didn't fit in the WWF, he wouldn't have been pushed to new heights last year. At least, that's what I think.
...Some fear the Pink... ...But many fear....THE MOUNTIE! (He's handsome, he's brave, and he's strong, you know)
Benoit is fun to watch because you know that he is a legitimate ass kicker despite his lack of size - who cares about his mic work - he doesn't need to speak to get over

Personally I'd take a Benoit promo over HHH anyday. But I have agree that Benoit put on some of the best matches of this year and Stone Cold vs. Benoit on Smackdown was on of the best. I don't see how this did not make the top 10 matches over the lingerie match and the HHH vs. Undertaker match considering that I figured the internet fans would have a large part in deciding the matches.
Man, I just realized that CANADA dominates the wrestling world: Benoit, Jericho, Edge, Test, Christian, Storm, Val Venis... Heck, Tiger Ali Singh wasn't half-bad...(he was bad all the way!)...well, when they treated him as a wrestler and not as an ethnic stereotype...
Just for fun, Superstars missing from WWE 13 that appeared in the original WWF SmackDown! game in 2000: The Dudley Boyz The Hardy Boyz Al Snow Test Gangrel D'Lo Brown Steve Blackman Hardcore Holly Val Venis If you include managers/Divas:
