I think the Devils' appearance helped motivate the crowd. They were dead for most of the game but after the Devils showed up, they started to make noise.

Pretty sloppy game, though.

My God, do you realize that New Jersey could somehow have TWO major sports championships? I think I just threw up in my mouth (tm Bill Simmons).

Don't worry, I already did that watching Game 4.

Is an over/under of combined points 170 in Game 5 going to get any over bets?

Well you know something, Mean Gene...

Combined 170 points? That would be quite an offensive duel for these two teams.

Despite the Nets wearing those awesome throwbacks, they lost again.

Kenyon Martin had a very rough game. But Steve Kerr helped the Spurs.

I don't see the Nets winning Game 6.

Me neither.

Anyone know what kind of ratings this series is getting? Or how to go about finding that out? I'm curious how well it's doing without a bunch of "marquee" players (a la Shaq, Jordan, Kobe.)

The ratings for the Finals are the lowest in a long time. It went down about 30-40% from last year.

Well you know something, Mean Gene...

Last year, the Lakers-Nets series was one of the lowest rated Finals of all time, so I don't think the lack of "marquee" players is as much of a reason as a combination of all-around bad basketball, bad marketing, and the (perceived) competitive imbalance between the East and West.

Damn your non-Jewel loving hide!!

John Saunders on ESPN this morning..."It's amazing that Tiger put up a 75 before the Nets and the Spurs did." I think the only thing that would make this series notable is if Kidd actually does an in-game heel turn on New Jersey and joins the Spurs.

I know I've been vocal against Kidd joining the Spurs, but if his turn involved bashing Kenyon Martin upside the head with the trophy, I'm all for it.

Ha!

Imagine the drama of Jason Kidd rising up out of a teeming mass of players to block New Jersey's series-winning, last minute three point shot!

(I just love seeing nasty blocks. Love it!)

Well, the Spurs are the champs. I knew NJ's lack of discipline would come back to bite them in the ass. Congrats to the Admiral, Tim-may and co.

Oh yeah--I had to listen to the 4th quarter on the radio on the drive from Littleton to Colorado Springs, and needless to say I resisted running my car into the median from having to listen to Brent Gayburger.

Wow, what a hell of a game! Props to the Nets for making it a tougher series than I thought it would be. Glad to see The Admiral go off into the sunset with another ring. Well deserved for a class act such as David. As for the future, the Spurs have quite a team assembled, and Duncan has only begun to make his mark on the NBA. This will be exciting to watch in the years to come.

As dull as this series was, it's still good to see David Robinson, one of the all-time nice guys, go out with another championship. His nice guy successor, Tim Duncan, now gets his second as well, and GOOD LORD ALMIGHTY he almost got a frickin' quadruple-double in the finals. That's crazy...this guy is the best.

Tell me you didn't say that. I'd choose Musburger over Nessler any day of the week, and the fact that listening to Musburger would ALSO mean no Bill Walton would be icing on the cake.

Congrats to the Spurs. I wanted the Nets to win, but the Spurs winning is fine by me.

And yeah, that was an awesome game by Duncan.

CRZ is on the right track about Brent, but that would mean missing out on Tom Tolbert, and Tom Tolbert is the fucking MAN, which makes Brad Nessler and Wavy Gravy a lot easier to stomach.

You can tell sometimes as well that Tolbert HATES Walton, which makes him THE MAN even more. Not to mention the look it put on Walton's face during the pregame when Tom was comparing the Nets' shooting woes to diarrhea.

I don't know... I kinda like "Oklahoma Hornets". It's a little catchy albeit sounding like a D-League team (leave the joke alone). Thought I wouldn't expect to hear JR tout the BAH GAWD HAWNITS on Raw anytime soon. :)
