I'm watching a Japanese documentary on Freddie Blassie now. Apparently, in 1962, Blassie came to Japan to wrestle Rikidozan. The show was televised live, and achieved an 68.4% Nielsen rating.
At the time, Fred Blassie's biting was considered quite shocking. So shocking in fact, that six old people watching the match literally died of shock!
Triple H can only dream that he will someday have the shock power and the relavence to kill six people with his act!
No but he can achieve the same results through bordem
"It is no secret -- except maybe to those guilty as charged -- that the internet spawned a demimonde of liars, evaders and enablers of egregious, base speculation and sophistry."
Also, from what I understand Rikidozan was murdered in 66 or 67. Later on in the 70s or 80s, the Japanese media was interviewing Freddie and he said that he can't wait to go to hell so he can kick Rikidozan's ass. I assume at least another 6 old people died after those comments.
The Japanese in that story remind me of the "uppity" rich guy from the simpsons that keeps getting so shocked and horrified that his monicle falls off and into his drink.
"America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team...then you should get the hell out of the stadium. Go America."--Stan Marsh, South Park
The incident is also mentioned in Hogan's book. Hogan says that prior to a match with Rikidozan in Japan, Blassie filed down his teeth. Then during the match, Blassie made it look like he was using his newly-sharpened choppers to bite into Rikidozan's head. Rikidozan bladed...and then Blassie sucked a little of the blood out of the open wound, backed up, and spit the blood right back into his opponent's face.
Apparently, the six people or so were watching the match on Japanese TV, and the then-unprecedented violence gave 'em heart attacks.
Classic Blassie...fantastic stuff. I hope I get to see that on tape someday before I die and Blassie kicks *my ass.

I read somewhere (maybe the WON) that Blassie claimed to have killed 92 people, when it was really just the six. Hey, not that six is anything to scoff at....

It was six just for that match alone. A few days later he had a match against another Japanese guy that was televised and three more old farts that were watching kicked the bucket.
Originally posted by odessasteps Alvarez joked in his article that Blassie was probably disappointed the number never got to 100.
Actually, Blassie had said that.
As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh, haven't you?
Jiminy Christmas, this show actually had YET ANOTHER contract signing? I'm so sick of contract signing and verbal debates and "confrontations" as main events. How many times have they used that crutch this year?
