Fourth strike.

Don't worry, though - he took it so well he immediately IM'd me to tell me about a thread he started (pub109.ezboard.com), not only confirming that I'd made the right decision, but telling me he'd turned in his "PLEASE BAN ME" shirt for a "PLEASE MAKE SURE I NEVER COME BACK" one.

Back on the topic of St. Anger, its been announced that the CD will be released this Thursday instead of next Tuesday for those of you who are interested.

Strange. I thought new records had to come out on Tuesdays.

According to Metallica, the reason is because of internet privacy. As for albums being released on Thursdays, 50 Cent's debut album was released on a Thursday, because of fears of bootlegging.

Also, the new song and video suck.

Just for that, I think I'll be sure to get it off Kazaa. There was nothing quite like getting back to school, booting up Napster, and seeing "banned by Metallica." I'm sure my copies of live versions of One and Die, Die My Darling were costing them millions.

I actually like the new song, but I think the problem a lot of people have with it is it tries to be 3 things, old school Metallica coupled with good production coupled with some new-metalish production. My friend who is a guitarist in a band says the drums are too loud and overbearing, but I like the longer version of the song. It kinda has grown on me, and while it is a good song (in my eyes), it's not the blow away single Metallica needed. Another complaint I have heard from some people is the lyrics are way to simple and not powerful enough for Metallica. The band says they are trying to return to the old days--well if that's true then they should have read the lyrics back to Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning back when it seemed they pleased everyone. But personally, I'd rather take a decent Metallica song over 90 percent of the other stuff out there--so I'm saying for now an ok song that's growing on me, good for working out, and I'll still pick up the album.

I like the song too. But it could've easily been done by any other rock band.

Besides, I'm one of those "anything before Load didn't suck" kinda fans.

Nothing will beat 'One' in terms of videos though.

But without him, how will Feely know the amount of Pearl Jam songs needed in his Top 40?

Anyway...

Thursday, hell, Best Buy had "St. Anger" TODAY. So, I think that makes me the first wiener to have listened to the entire CD.

Before I give my review, I've been a Metallica fan since I was about 11 years old. I own every album, a few bootlegs, and have worn out cassette copies of a few older discs. I *liked* "Load" and "Reload". I thought "S&M" was a stroke of genius, and I even stuck by them through the Napster temper tantrum.

Which is why it is with a heavy heart that I state that this is far and away the poorest CD Metallica has ever recorded. Without question. I thought someone slipped me a KoRn CD by mistake.

No stand-out tracks. No decent guitar solos - hell, nothing that even gives you a hint of the technical ability we all know these guys possess. Lyrics that make "Hit The Lights" sound like something off "Blonde on Blonde". Terrible production. In short, no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

It's like they're simultaneously trying to appeal to the old school fans who stopped listening to them when they cut their hair (who are going to listen to anything they record with all the objectivity of a smark watching a HHH match anyway), and those loser poseur fifteen year old kids in Slipknot t-shirts hanging around outside of Hot Topic.

They wound up making a CD that's not likely to be enjoyed by anyone. Except maybe Korn fans. And fuck them.

EDIT: Me write pretty someday

I wasn't sure if this was more of a Music forum, Random forum, or One Question forum question, so if TPTB wish to move this, go right ahead. So me and the lady are planning to get hitched in a few months.
