I know everyone has moved on to the Matrix but I had a few thoughts. Why couldn't Jean Grey save
them from inside the ship, why coudn't Xavier do something, why couldn't Storm make a Tornado
divert the path of the water? I'm not a comics person so maybe someone could tell me more about
the football player's character, Collossus(sp?). I thought he was a neat character and would like to have
seen more with him.

Haven't seen the movie, but I know the comic-book character by heart:

Colossus (Piotr "Peter" Rasputin) was a Russian mutant who was a simple farmboy before Xavier found him. He could transform his body into "organic steel," which greatly enhanced his strength, mass and resistance to injury, along with removing his need to eat and breathe.

In the comics, he was recruited in a typical comic-book crisis situation (the old team has been captured, so we need a new team to retrieve the old team), and stayed in America with the team once the smoke had cleared. He was a simple man at heart, possessing considerable artistic ability, great loyalty and a strong aversion to killing anything, much more of a role/team player than a potential leader. They do come smarter than Peter, but this was more of his lack of formal education/worldliness than actual lack of brainpower.

I use the past tense because, AFAIK, he died in comic-book continuity some time ago, but that was (a) long after I stopped collecting them and (b) subject to the "No one except Bucky is forever dead" rule-of-thumb for Marvel books.

My girlfriend and I had the same questions when we left the movie too, and came up with about ten different ways they could have gotten out of there without sacrificing Jean. The best theory we arrived at as to why those didn't happen is that Jean was able to block everyone's ability to interfere (like Nightcrawler said, she wouldn't let him teleport), and to an extent, wanted to sacrifice herself. Hopefully, they'll explain this better in the next movie.

Storm-interesting question. But I don't know how a tornado can divert a huge flood of water like that. Plus Jean was the reason the jet couldn't work so she had to leave and give it some "external power" which cyclops said they needed.

Prof. X-well xavier can't move objects but is a very powerful telepath, however its obvious in the climax that Jean was in more control by taking over Xavier's mind to speak to Scott.

Jean had to leave the ship because she was the reason it wasn't able to start. Remember the beginning of the movie when they were in the museum and all the TVs and such started going heywire because of her powers. She was afraid of using her powers to the full extent, as was mentioned a few times in the movie, but knew she had to turn it up full blast to save everybody, thus sacrificing herself.

I don't know that Jean took over Prof X's mind there at the end. I more took it as Xavier was trying to contact Jean to convince her to come back and he just started sort of channeling a message back to Cyclops.

I had missed the museum TV's short circuiting, but that makes sense as a foreshadowing the end and seems like the most likely reason. Good catch!

Also, one difference in Movie Colossus versus Comic Book Colossus is that the Movie one doesn't grow. In the Comic's he grows quite a bit when he becomes Organic Steel. Also, this isn't about the movie, but who would win... Thing, or Colossus?

Thing by a mile.

First of all, Thing has beaten the Hulk.

Second of all, Thing for all his posturing about being a dumb-ass next to Reed, has an engineer's degree and wins fights by using his brains as much as his brawn. (Also everyone is a dumb-ass next to Reed.)

Third of all, Thing fights dirty.

I was going to say "whoever gets booked to win", but checked myself. :-)

Yeah, the Thing if for no other reason than he can go toe-to-toe with the Hulk.

There was a pretty nifty barfight some years back between Colossus and Juggernaut. Juggy was just having a beer and Colossus saw him and picked a fight. Wolverine told him to just let it be, but for the rest of the fight, just sat back and watched the beating.

You are MAKING me pull my fanboy card out here, but GRAY HULK don't count, cheating don't equal a KO, and Thing can barely stand up to child Hulk for a limited time. Savage Hulk however, would kill him dead. Hulk smash you all! JUNE 20TH! PLEASE DON'T LET IT SUCK!

Aunt Petunia's favorite pile of orange rocks has the advantage when it comes to raw strength OR experience.

Besides, this has already been done.

Nightcrawler wanted to help too, but Colossus had just been a total ass to Kitty and broken her heart, and that was the night Logan decided to make the big Russian a man, hell I think he even told Nightcrawler he was going to have kicked Colossus' ass himself for screwing with Shadowcat.

Comic Books is the only thing that beats out pro-wrestling for "but why didn't he just..." scenarios. I personally was wondering why Iceman didn't just freeze the water.

I'm guessing in the 3rd movie they'll have some kind of explanation similar to the one in the Phoenix storyline in the comic books (which it looks like the 3rd one will be based on), which I forget.

My all-time personal favorite "but why didn't they just..." scenario is the following: Rogue, and to a lessor extent Cyclops, want to be able to turn off their powers. Every once in a while a bad guy slaps "power inhibitor" shakles on the X-Men. The X-Men have, in the past, had a member - Forge - who could (get this) INVENT ANYTHING. So why the hell did he never just whip up a little power-inhibitor bracelet for Rogue and Cyclops that they could turn on when they wanted to get busy?

The inhibitors haven't been done that I recall, but Forge had created a machine that stripped powers and did a number on Storm during that scary mohawk phase for her.

At least in terms of character, I wouldn't really see Cyclops being open to using such a thing given his sort of always-on-alert demeanor. He's even worse now in New X-Men after his cohabitation with Apocalypse.

Rogue, on the other hand, used to be a very insecure (and rightly so!) character until Gambit, especially when she was hung up on Longshot. Anyway, since Gambit, she just seems so much more matured and sure of herself. Now that she's been essentially stripped of her powers, I expect them to bring her back with control, given the heavy advancement of her absorption power.

And getting back to Hulk vs Thing, remember that sort of spiky mutation he went through at one point where he was on the green Hulk's level.

As nasty as the Savage Hulk is, consider the Maestro. Nobody could handle him. I'm suprised that chunks of Galactus's helmet weren't strewn across his lair (along with those orange rocks...)

If comics = wrestling, than Thing = Mick Foley. They both win aganist the little guys, but when it comes to "main-eventers" (Hulk, Namor, Sting, Austin) they always job! But both are always happy guys (well Thing is nowadays normally) with their catchphrase and "heart of the team" attitude.

I doubt Iceman could have frozen the water due to the sheer volume of water involved. What would likely happen is that he would freeze the first part of the water, then they would have a huge wall of ice heading towards the jet followed by a massive wall of water.

It's also likely the lake was salt water (alkali lake). This would explain why the upper part of the complex was covered in ice when the water in the lake wasn't frozen.

I saw the movie this past weekend (for 2.50). And I'm going back this weekend for a replay of that and to see Matrix 2.

I guess I was the only one who thought that Magneto's escape was one of the best parts of the movie. Kinda like a teaser for the Wolverine angle. Who I still think should be played by that Danzig dude. But the current character selection is fine *checking for snipers*

Yes, it did have a few "why didn't he/she" moments. But it had a lot more cooler spots than stupid ones. That last suicide/sacrifice scene, I think Jean wanted to do that. With her being a psychic and all, she must have known exactly what she was doing. Then again, it could have been the phoenix possessing her to do it. I dunno, but it was a pretty emotional moment.

I don't wanna nitpick or get picked on, but the accents do account for alot. It added loads of depth in Nightcrawler's character. And was a bit of a turn-off to hear Colossus not have it. What is the comic with Juggernaut vs. Colossus? someone PLEASE ANSWER, I must know.

The issue is Uncanny X-Men 183.... I got it in one of the Classic X-Men reprints. I left it at home but it's a cool comic so I can recap it from memory for anyone who cares to read it, here's the spoilers Neo and anyone else....

Spoilers-- We start off with Colossus and Kitty sitting on a hill talking when Colossus informs her he no longer loves her. He now loves a dead healer he met on Beyonder's world. Kitty and Colossus break up, Kitty is distraught and leaves to visit home, upsetting Storm. Then Rogue almost dies in the Danger Room until Storm fries the robots she was fighting with some lightning bolts, upsetting Storm more. Now here comes the fun part, Nightcrawler, Wolvie, and Colossus were ready to hit the town, with Nightcrawler porting in all happy until Logan informs him this ain't a trip for fun.
The boys hit a bar, the bartender thinks Pitor is underage, they get their drinks and Wolverine (Nightcrawler helping a little) tells Colossus what a dumbass he is for ditching Kitty, screwing her over, and loving some girl he hardly knows. Pitor says she saved his life, and Wolverine reminds him Kitty did too, but unluckly for the crew Wolverine picks up a scent.
Over at the bar, sits an unarmored Juggernaut flirting with the Black Queen Selene. This was right after Juggernaut freed himself from the cement bath Spidey gave him. Wolverine sensing Juggernaut tells the crew to leave, but in an arugment with Colossus, Pitor spills his drink right back.... on Juggernaut's head. This pisses Juggernaut off, so he hurls Colossus across the bar through a door. Emerging isn't the soft fleshy Rasputin, but the mighty Colossus.
Colossus states the obvious, that Juggernaut's blow would have killed him if he hadn't changed into his armored form. Juggernaut recognizes him and the fight begins. Colossus doesn't recognize the unarmored Juggernaut, but hell he ain't backing down. Colossus starts off strong, but Juggernaut gains the advantage. The brawl is GREAT fun, and Wolvie and Kurt just watch, with Logan saying that instead of helping, this was what he was going to do to Colossus himself for breaking Kitty's heart (kicking his ass that is). Juggernaut gains the upper hand, picks up the whole bar, slams it on Colossus and brings the building down literally. In the confusion, Selene meets another guy and everyone else flees.
Juggernaut recognizes Wolvie and Nightcrawler and they wisely tell the big guy they don't want any and he tells them to tell Colossus the kid did good and says he'll pay for the bar damage. Colossus frees himself and bitches at Wolvie and Nightcrawler for not helping him, and Logan runs him down asking if X-Men should defend each other, die for each other, etc. etc. To each one Colossus says yes and gets more mad before Wolvie tells him that Kitty did all these for him and he didn't care. Hell she agreed to marry into the Morlocks and live there to save Colossus. So Nightcrawler and Wolvie leave a dejected Colossus and up on the roof we see Selene "eat" the guy she found and pledge revenge on the world. There ya go.
