Hugh Jackman once talked about Magneto ripping off Wolverine's metal. Jackman stated that he wouldn't try and kill wolverine in such a way in the films b/c Magneto could still want to recruit Wolverine and as long as he has the adamantium, it remains a weakness to Wolverine that Magneto can exploit.

Anyway, hopefully the movies won't ever try that b/c it was one of the lamest things to do to the characters ever and it was six years before Erik Larsen fixed the mistake.

As for NEO, isn't Magneto of originally POLISH descent, not German? Hey if you're going to be nitpicky, so can I.

Actually, I thought Magneto ripping out Wolvie's adamantium was one of the coolest, most bad ass moves ever in comics and I even liked the stories afterwards with Logan trying to recover from it. Hell, even the bone claws were kind of cool, especially the fact that they would always break. In my opinion, the only problem with the whole thing was that it just went on for too long. He should have had his skeleton back within a year, tops.

Yeah, I'm late on this thread, but I had to avoid it until I saw the movie--no way I was getting spoiled on this one!

I was an avid Marvel reader in the late '70s up until the early '90s (I think), so all the classic X-Men is burned into my brain. That probably helped with the movie, though it wasn't essential, judging from all the comments from non-comics fans. Yes, noticeably better than the first, though I enjoyed the first well enough. The addition of Nightcrawler is at the top of my list of improvements. I have always adored the guy, and they handled him very well in nearly every respect, IMO. The flares of Phoenix-power brought back all the foreboding I felt when reading the saga way back when...oh, and Hugh Jackman kicks ass. ;-) His spread-clawed leap from the balcony was beautiful vintage Wolvie, but good grief, what was the SWAT body count in the mansion? None of that "The X-Men do not kill" stuff in the new millenium, I guess.

Oddly enough, one measure of how far the movies have come was the fight between Wolverine and Deathstrike. Speaking on man-on-woman violence, you know. ;-) That was a kill-or-be-killed slobberknocker, and the end, with the adamantium trickling out of her eyes like tears, was probably the most striking visual in the movie. I loved his reaction to her death--"Yeah, she was going to slice me up and I didn't have a choice, but damn, I'm sorry I had to do that." It's the actors that make a movie like this work, and thank goodness, they let them do their jobs.

If the claws kept breaking, did they regrow like Cat's claws, or did Wolvie have to bandage them up and not use them for a few weeks while they rebonded? (I'd imagine getting the broken shard back in the arm wouldn't be too comfortable either.)

For the record, I liked the movie, although the torture/death attempts on Stryker at the end started getting ridiculous. If Magneto thought all the humans were going to die anyway, what was the point of choking him with the chain and leaving him on the wall? Nightcrawler rocked, especially from the opening. Good to see Logan go all berserker on the SWAT team. The X-Men may not kill, but Wolvie ain't always the picture perfect X-Man...

Magneto probably had a reasonable assumption that the X-Men would be successful in stopping Cerebro. He just wanted to make sure Stryker died.

Or something.

because of his regenerative powers, the claws would always "re-grow" and the holes they would pop our of in the back of his hand would start closing up, so he'd have to painfully "re-peirce" them every so often.

after a while, he started looking like Rei with all those bandages on...

i was with the "animal wolvie sucked" bandwagon. "Me wolvie. i eat poopie! grrrrrrrr"

it was silly and went on wayyyyyy too long.

Everyone who hated the bone claws should realize they centered heavily in Larsen's Wolvy/Hulk fight, the BEST bout between those two to date.

As a side note, typing 60,000 words in a thread based on a movie you're not going to see for months is just stupid.

This has nothing to do with the movie, but as long as we're on the topic of Wolverine's claws...

Since it was revealed when the adamantium was removed that his claws were natural, why do they cut his hands open when they come out? One would think that if your mutation provided you with retractable claws it would be like on an animal where there's an opening for them...

I know its REALLY nit picky, especially considering we're talking about a comic book character, but I always remember the X-men cards Jim Lee did where they had the Did You Know type facts on the back, and Wolvies was that his claws always cut his hands open when he pops them out, so to me it made it seem like they were changing things just so the character wouldn't be less cool without his adamantium...

It always bothered me I guess, I dunno.

Well for one, they could put the claws in but did they really build the muscular system needed to eject and retract the claws? I doubt it.

As for his claws hurting him, they're the next step in evolution, not the creatures homo sapien will be eventually. Not all the mutations can be 100% convenient. At least Logan didn't end up like somebody like Chamber, whose power blew his own face off.

I thought the bone claws came for his regenerative powers compensating for the loss of his metal claws. Therefore, they weren't part of his original mutant ability, but more of a side effect. Maybe he just never evolved enough to have natural openings?

According to Origin, Wolverine always had claws. No holes in the hands before he popped them for the first time, though. Painful, eh?

one of my favorite parts of the first movie was when Rogue asked him if it hurt when the claws came out. Logan's reply was "every time" with a sad delivery.

That was great stuff.

...What?

In case you were referring to mwa, let me just say that it is next to impossible to type 60,000 words about a movie you haven't seen. And please read a post 2-3 times before publicly insulting people. I stated what I would like to see. Of course it would have to be done correctly. But I would be willing to look at it. Hell even if it was all animation. (This is if you were referring to me, Angry Man)

I really don't see Magneto as noble, but more-so classy. He's not a king to the world. To me, he's the ruler, there's a difference. Now for Matrix Reloaded, I'll see that much sooner than later. It's totally my preference. I'm through explaining myself though.

Now what I REALLY wanted to add was something I saw that was pretty funny the other day on HBO or Showtime: There was an X-tra on X-2. Rebecca Stamos and the Nightcrawler guy were sitting together and were asked which power of their characters would they use. To make a long story short, Rebecca said she would morph into the spykids guy so she could "steal his boyfriend". Which I thought was funny since this was just being discussed the other day.

I also saw Maximoff (which I THINK is Quicksilver) under Magneto on the list of names (where we all saw Gambit).
Can anybody tell me any others that were on there?

Stole this from a post on IMDB.com

____________________________________________________________
Harada, Keniucho
Kane, Garrison
LeBeau, Remy
Lensherr, Eric M.
Maddicks, Artie
Madrox, Jamie
Mahn, Xi'an Coy
Maximoff (2)
McTaggart, Kevin
Moonstar, Danielle
Munroe, Ororo

It's funny, cuz when Mystique scrolls over all the names to get to Magneto's (Eric Lensherr), she purposely pauses/highlights on Gambit's name (Remy LeBeau) for a second longer... definitely to let the audience get a good look at it.

I mean, we ALL KNEW Gambit's and Multiple Man's names were on the screen, but i don't think any of us really caught the other name quick enough, so i'm listing them here.

But who's who? Let's see...

Keniucho Harada = Silver Samurai
Garrison Kane = not too sure about this guy...
Remy LeBeau = Gambit
Eric Lensherr = Magneto
Artie Maddicks = Was a morlock and former member of Generation X (kid with purple snake tongue)
Jamie Madrox = Multiple Man
Xi'an Coy Mahn = Karma (an ex-member of New Mutants)
Maximoff (2) = referring to (2) siblings, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, otherwise known as Magneto's children, or Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch
Kevin McTaggart = Proteus
Danielle Moonstar = Moonstar (ex-member of X-force)
Ororo Munroe = Storm
____________________________________________________________

Hope that helps. By the way I believe Garrison Kane is a Weapon X.

Unless he's a different 'Kane' then yes, he was (at one time) Canada's Weapon X. He used to pal around with Cable and Deadpool and all those types, and spent a good deal of time chasing X-Force around. I was never quite sure what his powers were except for having metal arms and being able to shoot his hands at people, and even those may have been given to him by the Weapon X program (as I seem to recall that Deadpool had never seen the hand-shooting thing before).

According to Origin, Wolverine always had claws. No holes in the hands before he popped them for the first time, though. Painful, eh?

And, according to pretty much every single writer who wrote the X-books before Lee came in and started dicking with them, his claws came with the skeleton (with specialized muscles attatched so that he could pop them), and he had raised ports on his hands they popped out of that they went out of their way to show when he was gloveless. The "slicing through his hands" crap was invented out of the blue during a storyline where he lost his healing factor, and at the time got quite a bit of criticism.

The bone claws were put in because they thought Wolvie wouldn't be Wolvie without them, and because they made a neat-looking visual. Although they ruined that when some idiot decided that, for some reason, without his adamantium skeleton Logan had NO NOSE.

Plus, being as Magneto sucks due to the gay actor, I guess that means Nightcrawler and (rumoured) Wolverine suck too.

Not Hugh Jackman! My mother will freak out!

I'm worried about X-3 since I think the movie might have to be 3 hours long. I mean, you're going to need screentime for everyone in this movie, plus increased time for folks like Colossus, Gambit, etc. Unless they start killing some characters off, this will end up as a big problem.
