Um, A Fan? Burkett? Excalibur? No? OK, I'll start.

Not a bad episode, per se, but the third to last episode should not be spinning its wheels. Other than the end, which was nothing more than a tease for next week, the threat did not feel real.

I have to say, though, seeing the Mayor interact with Faith again was awesome!

The abundance of nookie was OK, but I really liked Caleb's reaction to all of it. So I guess it's established that the First is aware of all of their actions? Thus, the trap was set? I'm a little confused there.

Also, I thought that Willow's issues with intimacy were resolved by the end of "Him". Seems weird that they would bring it up again.

Was that an axe or a gun that Buffy found? I haven't rewatched the episode yet.

I'm hoping Xander gets a kickass fight scene to go with his kickass eyepatch!

It was a very Power Ranger-esque looking axe. I couldn't help but yell out "MEGA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAXXXXXXE" the first time I saw it. Personally, i'd like to see Buffy pull out that huge hammer she smacked Glory around with in season 5. That was pretty nifty.

Overall, ok episode which saw Faith try to be a real leader to the SIT's. Nothing wrong with a little sex music montage and I was really caught off guard with the end. I check out spoilers occasionally and usually skim thru them not looking at the big details, but I read nothing about a bomb (if that was what it indeed was). I couldn't help but thing of 24 though as I saw that clock tick down. Heh.

I have not seen the preview yet for next week's Buffy but I do know about the big return. I don't know if this would count as a spoiler or not to others so i'll just refrain from dropping that person's name for now.

2 episodes and 3 hours left. THE END IS NEAR!

So I was wrong about Dawn and Xander. That's probably a good thing.

I noticed Harry Groener's name in the credits, and realized the Mayor was going to show up, and then I still was surprised when he started talking to Faith. It was nice how he showed up after Faith and Giles were talking (bonding?), since Giles has been Buffy's father figure, and the Mayor was Faiths. It was also nice how Wood and Faith commented that the First has never lied to them.

The weapon looked like an axe to me. I'm wondering if maybe, the reason that the First can strike now (remember its something that the Slayer has done that has given it the opportunity), is because "it is for her to wield alone", and with two slayers (possibly three if you count Dawn as having slayer blood) running around, neither of them can wield that weapon which can defeat Caleb and possibly the First.

The big revelation this week, in my opinion, is that the First said that it would love to be able to feel what its like to kill someone. (Grab their neck and squeeze the life out of them, I think.) And there's its weakness. All the gang needs is to find a way to allow it to become tangible, and then take its head off with that axe. I'm wondering if maybe the wield line doesn't reply to the axe, but instead replies to the First Evil itself. Maybe Buffy is prophesizes to channel the First Evil, and when she/it starts trying to kill people, Faith can use the axe to take off her head, and end all this.

How long did it take Spike to touch something in that scene with Buffy? I was worried after he waltzed in uninvited and started telling Buffy to go back to the group that he was the First. Poor Spike for loving such a screwed up girl.

Its ironic that Buffy was right about going back to the vineyard, but I'm glad she realized that she's better off fighting alone. Its nice that she realized the best way to fight Caleb is just dodging, especially after his comments about brute force. Still, finding that axe was mighty easy. I'm wondering if its the kind of thing where Buffy needs to wield it, but the First needs it out of that stone for its own reason.

The First has always known of their actions. Its one of the reasons its such a difficult villain to defeat. Its everywhere. I'm not sure if it is only where evil is (and since there's a little evil in everyone, as Joyce said, it would at least be where they are), or if its flat out omniscient, but at the very least, it would have known of their plan to bait and kidnap a Bringer as they came up with it.

I think Willow has issues of intimacy each time she progresses to a new level with Kennedy. She bugged out over their first kiss. Now she bugged out over the next step. Apparently its all good, though.

I'm fully expecting Xander to get in a line (and subsequent action) about an eye for an eye in the final battle with Caleb.

Edit: Yes, they showed HIM during the promo for next week. Even though I knew he would be coming back, I still popped huge when I saw him.

And as far as the bomb goes, I'm surprised it took the First this long to set something like that up. Even though First Buffy told Caleb to kill real Buffy, I'm thinking that the First a) knew Caleb wouldn't do it, and b) needs Buffy alive for some reason. (See axe theories above) That's why it waited to try such a brute measure until Buffy was separated from the group. The question then becomes what of the non-slayer types back at the house? All the season regulars are waiting back there, with no one to protect them. They would be next on the First list of things to kill, after all...

I know there's no time left to develop this little tidbit, but anyway...

If that axe is the weapon that can stop The First (or at least Caleb), doesn't Buffy finding it just play right into Anya's theory of her being "luckier" than everyone else?

Just reading between the lines...

So the key to defeating the first is a big axe? Is this Dungeons and Dragons with girl power?

Very little actually happened here. They have A LOT of shit to deal with in the next two episodes that they should have dealt with already.

Good episode overall. The romance scenes were REALLY cheesy. I don't think they could have laid Spike's dialog any thicker. Was there even a reason, other than "Oops, looks like we're gonna die" for Faith and Wood to hook up? I've always kind of rooted for Xander and Anya, though. And I STILL just cannot stand Kennedy and Willow. Every scene that they have together screams "You WILL believe that there is sexual tension here, and if you don't, then you're stupid".

Other observations:

-Spike and Andrew should get their own spin-off. Forget about Willow. Spike and Andrew is where it's at.

-They've GOT to put "Guest Starring" at the end from now on. This is two weeks in a row now that I've called the special guest (The Mayor and Lilah) before I even knew they were coming. It's no fun if you know who is showing up.

-I will say though that it was absolutely awesome to see Faith and The Mayor interacting again. Harry Groener is just perfect for that role.

-I kind of knew that Buffy would turn out right and everybody else would end up in trouble, but I don't like it. They put her in her place for a reason, to have her wind up being vindicated makes this feel like Angel all over again. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

-That fight sequence with Caleb and Buffy was awesome.

-Can somebody, you know, slay some vampires on this show?

That's it for now...

For those not reading Joss Whedon's comic Fray, the mighty axe is in there too, so it's actually part of "slayer lore," even though the comic isn't official canon. Of course, Joss is writing it, so I'd say it was.

On one of the other boards today, the biggest topic of conversation was Kennedy's tongue. And, of course, most people are still hoping she dies and/or turns heel.

I noticed Kennedy's tongue, I grinned while I thought about what I've heard about them, but then it left my consciousness. I, too, would like to see Kennedy eradicated. She is a prima donna, she exudes no sense of humility or duty, she just exudes a feeling of "I AM SO SPECIAL". Anya's "lucky" speech would also apply to Kennedy.

It was fun that many of the gang "got a little lovin'". I still wish that Anya and Xander would have reconciled at some point. I really think that Faith and Wood were just in the right place at the right time. Remember, slaying makes Faith horny; I would expect that after her time in prison that the mere prospect of the looming battle would have her ready to go.

I thought that the fight scene with Caleb was OK and it did show intelligence on Buffy's part to merely evade rather than to attack.

What was up with that episode? Buffy killed a bunch of those chainmail guys, who seemed to be human beings, and they never even touched on it. I though Buffy never, ever killed humans? Shouldn't she at least feel a little bad about it?

Not only that, but they were doing the sane thing by trying to kill Dawn to save the world, and Buffy was just winging it because she couldn't make the tough decision. It's not like they were even evil humans. Buffy just killed a bunch of guys who were trying to save the world from hell, and she didn't even bat an eyelash. That's been under my skin for a long time now.

I was pretty disappointed. THis close to the big finish, each episode should be action-packed. This one felt more like a time filler to me.

Two thoughts: Has Willow ever expressed any reservations about her relationship with Kennedy due to unresolved feelings over Tara? It's been a year since the great love of her life was killed, and I would think Willow would struggle with trying to find closure as she jumps into bed with Kennedy.

Harry Groener? That's one of the funniest names I've ever heard.

count olaf, I'm right there with you. This close to the end, you shouldn't fell like that you could have watched just the last 10 minutes of the show and know everything that you need to know. The first 50 minutes was nothing but filler, filler, and more filler. The show seems to be just in cruise control when it should be picking up some steam.

Seeing the mayor again was cool, but was pretty pointless (don't trust Buffy. Hmm, given their past, I'm not sure that Buffy/Faith would really ever have that much trust in each other).

Also, what was the morale of the story? It seem to be that it's better to base decisions on wild assed guesses than well-thought out plans. Sure, Buffy didn't go back to Caleb's crib until after Spike filled her in with further info, but she wanted to go back before Spike returned. And the whole gist seemed to be that 'Look, Buffy was right all along.' But the thing is, it was still a wild assed guess, even if she was right. If she waits, then Spike returns, and know she has at least a little basis for her theory, and she may have been able to sell the group on that idea. But that's not how the story went. Instead they seem to be saying that the group should have just listened to Buffy, no matter how dumb her logic is, because she's Buffy and they're not.

Buffy, "lucky" indeed.

I figured I would put this in here instead of starting a new thread.

While going through the music folder, I came accross the Metallica Icon thread. I went to TVGuide.com to search for the replay dates and I found out that there is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Biography special airing on A&E next week. Wednesday at 8:00 pm EDT and then again at Midnight.

Edit: The replay time was wrong.

Is that like a behind the scenes history of the show type Biography, or is that a Biography show that treats Buffy as though she's a real person?

Edit: Checked the aforementioned TV Guide site, and its a retrospective with clips and interviews from Joss, SMG, and Boreanaz. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, I'm late traffic. Honestly, its just been a shitty day. Ok, now to this Angel thing. I like Angel killing Conner, but it was a coup out ending. I also don't see why they would join Wolfram and Hart. I can see Angel joining just to make sure Conner, Cordy and to some extent Buffy will be ok. I think Gunn has something in the white room which made him either into a complete hero or villian. Wesley is doing it for other reasons which might including saving Lilliah's soul. Lorne and Fred are just out of place there.

With the removal of Conner and now Liliah if she does just fucking leave already. Maybe if Charisma decides to opt out this season to raise her baby, we have three open spots.

Who gets to go over to Angel switch pool

1 to 1: Willow
3 to 1: Spike
5 to 1: Dawn
10 to 1: Giles
25 to 1: Kennedy
30 to 1: Principal Woods
40 to 1: Xander
50 to 1: Andrew
100 to 1: One of the slayerettes
500 to 1: Faith
1,000000000000000 to 1: Buffy

I have heard some info that may or may not affect the odds you got there.

I guess this could be consider **SPOILER** territory, so I'll put up this warning.

What I've heard is that James Marsters is very interested in joining the Angel cast, but they've hit a snag in the negotiation. James wants to be a full-time cast member, because he has to die his hair for the job, and he doesn't want to do that just for a part-time gig. However, ME can't afford to pay him a full-time salary, at least not without cutting someone else loose. James doesn't want somebody else to be cut loose because of him.

I don't remember where I heard or read that, at this may be strictly rumor territory. But there it is, such as it is.

I was thinking these odds should appear in a thread of their own. Oh well.

I'm also thinking the ground rules should be that spoilers like those mentioned above (i.e. what the actor is considering), are allowed in forming the odds, but knowledge of the events, (like what Madman claims), is not.

To Angel (does not preclude the opportunity to appear in an ep, only applies to joining the cast):

Spike 1 to 1
Willow/Andrew 1 to 3
Dawn 1 to 10
Kennedy 1 to 20
Giles 1 to 50
Wood 1 to 100
Faith/Xander/Anya/Buffy/any slayerette 1 to 1,000,000

Dying:

Anya 9 to 1
Buffy 3 to 1
Faith/Xander/Wood/Dawn 1 to 1
Kennedy 1 to 2
Andrew 1 to 10
Spike 1 to 100
Willow/Giles 1 to 1,000,000

Reasoning (contains cast plans, so they might be SPOILERS)

Spike - his Angel situation is mentioned above
Giles,Willow - have been mentioned as possibly appearing on Angel for some guest spots
Anya - Caulfield wants out. Granted, the show is ending, but if they want some deaths to make the finale *meaningful*, she's one to start with
Buffy - its HER show. Why not die with it? Although SMG has mentioned she's be available for guest spots in the future.
Xander,Faith - If Dushku and Brendon weren't doing pilots for Fox, I'm sure they'd be in the list for a spin-off. They still might be given that a spin-off is a year away.
Wood - I don't see a future use for his character, but I could be wrong. His plot played out, unless he tries to get Spike again.
Dawn - I think her fate is tied to Buffy's. I don't see Buffy surviving if Dawn goes, but I can see Dawn surviving past Buffy. She might make a spin-off, but the possibility of slayer blood in her makes things interesting.
Kennedy - possibly for the Willow spin-off? Then again, I don't think people appreciate her relationship with Willow as much as they did Tara's. Of course, I don't think Willow does either. She might be there just to increase the *meaningful* body count.
Andrew - the writers like Tom Lenk (as witnessed by his increased role this season). I'm thinking they'll want to continue to play with him in future endeavors.

Here's what happens when you have someone who doesn't actually a watch the show try to report something about it. I don't actually watch Angel (though I may start next season, assuming it stays on) but I know understand that a regular died or was otherwise disposed of in the season finale. Obviously that could open the door for Spike to come in. So what I posted above may no longer be relevent.

I think the odds for Spike joining are very good, 1 to 1 is probably about right.
