Hello folks.

I appreciate the deluge of replies to my first joshi pro experience (yeah, right!). I've said at the end of that thread, that after seeing the ARSION tape it really made me put all my years of almost nothing but WWF/E (let alone some indies) in serious perspective. Of course, there are things about the WWE that really appeal to me still (looking at Hunter, looking at Spanky, looking at Cena, looking at Y2J, pissing on Test). But, I feel like a changed woman. I realize it's just wrestling, not some religious conversion.

But, since it is as much a part of life as it is (was) yours, I think it's safe for me to say that I officially DON'T CARE what will be on the next PPV, or the PPV after that. It's all trivial at this point. If Vince wants to bury himself with his own tools, fine. I'll be sad. If he gets his groove back, then great. Now that I'm already starting my joshi collection, Vince has to be on the backburner until god knows when. I won't stop watching WWE cold turkey, but I will most likely not give a damn who Test forces himself on next. I just want WRESTLING, and I found it. Ahhhh, smell that fresh air. Comments?

The only thing worse than being unhappy or upset, is just not caring. Worse for the WWE, that is. Not for you.

Bravo. I, meanwhile, am partial to the full-out fun experience of indie wrestling, much like MCW here in Maryland. I'm guaranteed a full, fun evening for $20.00, and I ALWAYS lose my voice from laughing. To each his(or her) own.

It's always cool to find an alternative. I used to watch quite a bit of New Japan and All Japan during the WWF "gimmick heavy" years in the mid 90's. Now I find myself more interested in Pride and K-1 and sometimes UFC. I like Pride the most because they blend the pro wrestling mentality of entertainment, production, and characters in with the real fighting.

There are still a lot of things I enjoy about WWE's product but it's hard to be terribly optimistic about the product when they dig up a worse hasbeen every month or two. We already had this nostalgia kick, it was called WCW.

I was going to say this in one of your review threads, but I'll just say it here...

I think it's great that you've discovered a new source of wrestling inspiration. I've only been exposed to a very minimal amount of Japanese wrestling. (some old Cactus stuff that was just INSANE and I bought my best bud a tape of some old Benoit stuff from Japan, Stampede and ECW.) I still have fond memories of The Jumping Bomb Angels in WWF way back when, and I'd love to see more of that.

I eagerly anticipate your next review, it was great reading a review from someone who was excited about what they're seeing. Honestly, I'd rather read more of that kind of thing than the usual posts bitching about what's become of the WWE, yada yada.... The bottom line is that it's entertainment, and if you're not having fun, take a cue from Ringmistress and find something you will enjoy.

At least in the mid 90's, I could turn over to WCW, which at that time was putting out a product that I enjoyed a ton. These days, I may soon be asking for your recommendations on Puro tapes! Or, there's a really tiny indy fed just an hour south of here that looks like they'll be starting to put on shows again. While all but two of the guys are scrawny little nothings, you can tell they're out there doing something they love, and they have a couple heels that do a great job with their character. A little size and a couple of years are all they need. (The fed, if you're interested, is PCW - Plymouth Championship Wrestling in Sioux City, IA (pcw-wrestling.net).

Incidentally, after watching the Japanese Benoit stuff I understand why his neck was in the shape that he was. I cringed at every single powerbomb that he took/delivered. There is also an absolute GEM of a match on that collection (from RFVideo, don't remember which Benoit compilation it was) with a young Benoit facing off against a young Owen Hart in some horribly lit Arena for Stampede wrestling. It was almost like watching a Bret vs. Dynamite match. It's amazing to see at that point in their careers how much influence Bret and Dyno had on Owen and Benoit's styles.

The Puro love is shared by a lot of folks here, and with good reason. I'm going to put my two cents in and also recommend getting some tapes of the NWA (the Flair-Rhodes-4 Horsemen era, not the Jeff Jarrett era) if you want to see some of the finest NA wrestling from the last 50 years. I'd go with anything from 85-89, and without sounding too much like Scott Keith, make sure you get to see the Flair-Steamboat series of matches from 89. As awesome as everyone says they are, trust me.

It was cool to read some positive thoughts about wrestling since invariably everyone and their brother is so negative these days.

I hear you. I went to a Lucha show last night in los Angeles and there was a lot more energy in the crowd of 500 than the last SD taping I went to. It was put on by a group called Fusion out of TJ. Konnan, Hurracan Ramirez jr. and a local dude (Capitan Oro) lost a 2/3 to Rey Misterio (Senior!) and Los Chivos (Kayam and Enigma de Oro.) There were 4 other matches (all tag) with locals/TJers. In all, about 2 1/2 hours of wrestling, kind of spotty and loose, but still all good for $20. anyone here in Cal should check out socaluncensored.com for local/indie news. I missed the last UPW show that had Erica Porter (Jungle Girl from WOW) beat Jennie "Loony" Lane (HLA)for the state Women's Title. The next show I'm going to for sure is Lucha Vavoom, combining Lucha and Burlesque. It's in june at the Mayan Theater.

Actually I do happen to have a couple of tapes of the Horsemen era (my older brother is a Horsemen fanatic). It was okay to call wrestling a sport THEN, no doubt. I didn't have a chance to see the Flair-Steamboat series, so I'll scope that out. Thanks for enjoying my review, by the way.

Man, I just pulled out some "Best of the NWA" tapes I had after thinking about it after RM's Puro reviews. The heat that some of those wrestlers used to generate was f'ing amazing to hear. I watched the R-n-R Express/Russians (Khrusher Kruschev/Ivan Koloff) Tag Title Match from mid 85 and it sounded like the roof was going to come off that place when Robert Gibson was getting pounded on and trying to make the hot tag to Ricky Morton. Just amazing.

For all his detractors, Dusty Rhodes could draw some amazing face heat. It's just amazing to watch these matches now. I get the distinct impression that the heat that these guys drew is what VKM wants to try to get now with the whole "Let's slow things down and tell a story" speech.

Maybe I'll post some reviews of these tapes if I get some more time. I bought'em off Ebay about a year ago, so you might be able to find them there if you look. It's a six tape set. Well worth the $50 I dropped on them.

Since the Puro LOVE is spreading as fast as herpes on a porno set around here (FINALLY!! ^_^) lemme suggest a few more! Obviously, anything with Ayako Hamada (and my massive crush on her has NOTHING to do with that!).

My nugs at Toryumon are just f*ckin' AMAZING!! T2P has been officially absorbed into Toryumon general school population and Toryumon X s the new crop of rookies to watch out for. The aces to watch for: Milano Collection A.T., Taiji Ishimori, Ryu Saito (Dancing YAHOO!), Dragon Kid... WHat am I saying, just about everyone in Toryumon is a top-shelf cruiserweight.

For more conventional and recent action, get yourself some of HighSpot's "Best of 2002" series (1-13). Killer matches on every tape.

You want some hardnosed, brutal, UGLY action, you can't beat Yoshi Takayama. Ugly face, ugly kicks, NASTY German Suplex that would make Chris Benoit say, "DAMN!!"

If I had to pick something to go along with your Joshi collection... Toryumon 2000 Project (T2P) without a doubt. Their style of funky submissions and quick maneuvers go nicely with the Joshi general disregard for personal safety.

***Favorite recent tape purchase??? Magnum T.A. Shoot interview! Buy it now @ Highspots. Great interview and good matches shown.

Two hours later they decided to stop at a diner
Because they loved the smell of eggs and coffee
I just had to smoke a cigarette and wear a hat
By the time that they set off again, the sun was starting to set
It made the sky look red like a nuclear ray
One of them said "what do you want more than anything
in this whole wide world
Do you want money, do you want sex, or do you want all that success?"
I thought about that one myself
(Then they came upon the thing)

Well, thanks for the replies folks, and stay tuned, because soon I'll take on the 1994 classic AJW show from the Tokyo Dome. I'm gonna see Bull Nakano in all her glory!
