From Hell, Road To Perdition & League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are all based upon comic books [well, graphic novels to be more precise, which is to say that they're BIG comics].

Perdition was ten kinds of AWESOME. From Hell was very good, but had some flaws. League hasn't come out yet. I didn't rate FF because it's only available in bootleg, and Peyton Reed has a real FF film coming in two or three years.

X2 was a little uneven, but still far better than the first. The opening scene with Nightcrawler kicking ass in the Oval Office was incredible. But the pacing slowed after that.

Still, this was movie was more fun than eating a case of Red Hots and washing it down with a liter of Jolt cola. WAY better fight scenes. The first movie was mainly people getting struck in the chest by a fireball/punch/claws and being hurled back approximately the length of a football field. That got old.

More subtle comedy in this one. Everyone seems to be settling into their roles a little better (although Halle Berry continues to SUCK as Storm. Angela Bassett would've been a better, more ass-kicking choice.) Nightcrawler is the goods. I liked him MUCH more in this movie than I ever liked him in the comic.

Iceman I didn't get. The guy made a wall and froze a cup of coffee. Yay. Ditto for Rogue. They seemed to invest more than necessary in Pyro. Wasn't he always sort of a crony in the comic?

Sabretooth and Toad were nowhere to be seen. Good riddance.

But at the end of the day, this movie was frustrating. Not because it wasn't good (it was), but watching it, I kept thinking of every cool storyline from the comics that I wanted to see them re-enact. Fall of the mutants, the Siege Perilous, etc. But I'll gladly take what I can get. The bar continues to be raised....

Oh yeah, bring back GAMBIT! Just seeing his name on the computer database of mutants is not enough!

X2 made an estimated $155.2million over the weekend worldwide. That's $85.85 here in the states and an additional $69 million outside the states.

The first X-Men movie opened at $55 million.

Angry Johnny, Storm was busy trying to pilot and fix the jet. Also Jean Grey was blocking nightcrawler from trying to bamf out of the jet and get her, so maybe she was doing the same to storm. But even still, how is Storm going to stop or freeze a flood of water like that?

I think it is obvious that they are going to make an X-3. The Batman rule applies: "Keep the series going until it quits making money or until it is ruined." What will the next movie be about? I think it is too early in the series to bring in aliens like the Shi'ar Empire or Mojo. It would be too far out there.

1. Mutant Massacre/Sinister - This would be a good way to introduce Gambit.

2. Apocalypse/4 Horsemen - A way to introduce Angel

3. Sentinals - I was hoping for them in this movie.

Just saw the movie and it made me a true believer all over. So much goodness in one little film. The ending made me happy b/c I thought to myself "here's where it starts getting REALLY good". Let's hope I'm right.

It seems to me that the ultra-cool Marvel Studios page-flipping logo at the beginning of a film signifies upcoming awesomeness. I mean, Spider-Man, Daredevil, X2 and Blade II were all good films. [Good, some weren't great, but they were all good.] And with The Hulk, Punisher, Blade II, X3, Daredevil 2, Elektra & Spider-Man 2 all upcoming...we're in for a whole lotta goodness.

I just got done watching this, awesome awesome awesome awesome.

Since I LOVE making lists, here's a list:

Pros

- Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine. He rules the proverbial school, and it's great to see him kicking ass.

-Nightcrawler was tremendous. Watching him check out Mystique was pretty funny.

-Sir Ian McKellan is fantastic, and he plays Magneto perfectly.

-I liked the little mini-story with Iceman and Rogue. It kept them out of the main action, and the "teen love/not a part of the team" was good in my opinion

-Phoenix should be alot of fun. My roomate was never a comic fan, so he didn't get it, so maybe it's lost on a lot of people, but I'm excited.

There's too many more pros to list. Fantastic movie. Almost seemed too short.

Only two minor quibbles I had with it, though:

-I thought IceMan should've been out there trying to freeze the water.

-I could've done with some more Death Strike.

But who am I kidding? 9/10 for my money.

Excalibur05, please logically explain to me how Iceman could've freezed that water, and keep that much expanding water/ice from moving and flooding toward the X-jet? And remember Iceman was locked in the ship, and when Iceman freezes thing it has to follow a DIRECT path from Iceman, so he wouldn't be of much use to freeze the flooding water so to speak anyway. You can't just freez millions of gallons of flooding water and expect it to stop. Or how about this, freezing a wall around the x-jet. that's not going to work either. for that to work Iceman would need to be outside the X-jet and go around or in front of it and make a big wall which he would have practically no room to do with all that water thrashing around. And still if you just make a big wall it won't be strong enough against that much coming towards you and the ice is just connected to the ground.

What was Rogue going to absorb the water's mutant powers?

Why the hell couldn't Cyclops pilot the damn plane while Storm saved the day?

Logic? Not in MY commic book movie!

I mean, please logically explain to me how Storm made everything freeze in Cerebro 2, or how Magneto was able to draw out solid chunks of iron from Mr. Security, or how any of their powers work. Iceman's power is making ice. There's some water. I didn't expect it to be any more logically explained I just was waiting for somebody to mention that, hey, he's got a power that might kinda sorta do some good in this situation.

The only reasonable explaination was that he was inside and not outside, well, and physics, but the laws of our nature don't apply here, so whatever.

EDIT: Here's a thought, couldn't somebody, say Rogue have said: "Bobby, use your powers to freeze it!" And then he could have said, "No! It's too late!" or "I'd have to touch it!" instead of having him sit there like a goon? Just a thought.

Ok, finally got back from seeing X-Men 2, it ruled. There is no question in my mind this was the best comic book movie ever. Superman was great, but it got dull til the end. This exceeded my expectations by far. The Phoenix thing at the end was incrediable. I kinda got that hint when her eyes flamed up early on, but I thought it was wishful thinking.

As for the bitching about the movie. Let it go! I could nitpick any movie to death, yet I don't. I am glad they dumped the M'Kran Crystal thing, it was lame. No offense, but keep the X-Men on Earth is the best thing they can do. It makes it more real then having them fly off to space for no reason. X-Men in space blows, actually minus Surfer and FF, Marvel characters in space is just stupid. Thats why I am hoping if Venom is in Spidey 3, they do the Ultimate Venom rather than Secret Wars Venom.

There does seem to be a theme of them in the comic book movies of taking two or more storylines to do the movie. X-Men was part their Origin/Weapon X/Love Triangle. Spiderman was his Origin/Green Goblin and Gwen Stacy/MJ and DD had Origin/Elektra/Fall of Kigpin. If they keep getting the best stories out of the comic books they should be fine. This is where DC failed, they had Origin/Make-up new shit. If they had done more comic book storylines then Batman 7 would have already been made. Marvel knows the fans want to see old storylines with a new twist. I don't mind them redoing certain storylines as long as they are logical. So far, they have all been logical, now its up to the comic book writers to get off their ass and do some new shit to make this shit work. Fuck, X-Men movies have been the best thing in X-Men in the last five years. There is nothing interesting about Uncanny or New X-Men.

I love Marvel going to the writing bullpen, but they need to do more than follow the movies. JMS throw away the memo about Peter/MJ never getting together since they are not together in the movies. God Bless that man. The movies can continue to be better for a long time as long as there is good material to use. X-Men, Spidy,DD and FF are lucky. Each of those people have twenty good storylines in them. Hulk, Punisher and others will have maybe two good movies in them at best.

A Fan- Great movie, wish I wasn't so poor or I'd see it again.

I am by no means versed in the comic book world so I have no idea how true to the comics the movie was- but X2 ruled. It was fun from beginning to end and much easier to follow than the first. X2 to me falls right behind '89's Batman as the best comic book based movie I have ever seen.

Excellent flick from start to finish.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaut on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham!, you just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man."

Saw the movie Saturday night with my wife whose only Xmen background comes from the first movie that she just saw last week.
The entire phoenix reference went right over her head, she was upset that Jean had died, but thought it would be stupid for her to come back in another movie. She also didn't get some of the inside jokes, some of it due to the language barrier (shes from morocco). I just hope they don't get too cute with X3, the whole alien race, and moon people thing from the Phoenix saga may turn off many moviegoers. And it would take allot of storytelling for Jean to go evil, maybe the whole of X3 and have her turn in X4?
I also didn't like the ending, for Xaiver to freeze a museum is one thing, but how many people did he have to freeze during the president’s address? Everyone watching at home? I think they would have been better served with letting the president make his speech leading to the sentinels in X3 but thats my opinion.
But we both enjoyed the whole movie and are looking forward to the next one.

No, if you notice, they took out the feed before freezing everybody. The people at home were just seeing dead air. I wasn't too fond of the whole freezing thing. (Did Prof. X ever do that in the comics?) It did, however, make for a neat visual.

Overall I enjoyed the movie. But time didn't fly. I felt every minute of it and it felt like a 90 minute movie stretched into 135 minutes.

I felt like the first one was 135 minutes crammed into 90 minutes, which made it less enjoyable. X2, however, was awesome.

As for Cyclops' character assassination, the worst part by far was that they made him an N'Sync fan.

Alan Cumming owned it as Nightcrawler.

I can easily see the third movie (and after this weekend's box office, you KNOW there's going to be one) center on the X-Men and Magneto's group each struggling to control the power of the Phoenix.

Batman is still the best comic movie of all time, but this one was terrific.

Prof. X has frozen people and the like. Uncanny X-Men 300 strikes out where there is a huge mob of like a 1000 people ready to fight the X-Men and Prof. X just telepathically removes the X-Men from all their minds. Good ol' Peter Rasputin was kinda pissed about this... leading up to X-Men 304.

Well, Peter turning to join Magneto was more to with his sister dying to the legacy virus than anything else. He blamed Xavier for not doing enough to stop it, so his belief in Xavier's dream died right there. When Magneto showed up, he jumped ship afterwards Xavier throws Magneto and Asteriod M into space before they attack the school. Then in X-Men 25, my favorite comic book story ever, Xavier, Gambit, Jean, Rouge, Quicksilver and Wolvie confront Magento on Asteriod M. Magneto gets pissed during the fight and rips the admantuim out of Wolverine's body and Xavier jut mind wipes him. Great scene and perhaps the last great X-Men book of the 90s. I'd buy good money to see that on screen.

If you look at the movie there really was no scene where there wasn't a technical error. Then again I wasn't really looking for flaws since I became a raving fanboy when Nightcrawler attacked the White House. I am a bit shocked in today's society that Marvel has made the Government or parts of the Government the villians. Which is good since thats how the comics go, it will be fun watching Hulk tear through America's militray might while General Ross screams orders.

A Fan- If can agree on anything can we agree this was the best comic book sequel of all time.
