So I'm thinking of publishing my old reports and making them available for purchase. The questions are:

1. Are you dumb enough to pay for this?
2. No, seriously, how much cash are you dumb enough to part with to pay for this?
3. How much "extra" writing would it take to make you dumb enough to pay for this? (e.g. "Looking back at what I wrote then," crazy footnotes explaining what the heck I'd written, historical perspective [error-laced or not] to tie things together, some other brand new material I've not thought of)
4. How many copies do you think could I get away with selling to dumb people before WWE sued me?
5. If you're NOT dumb enough to pay for this, any ideas about anything else I could write?
6. Or maybe I should put together a compendium of my W posts. I bet THAT'D be entertaining reading.

Your answers may determine how serious I am in THIS message...or perhaps not. :)

1. I'm smart enough to request a gratis copy as a talk show host.
2. See above.
3. It would be best to tie the dates together with off-camera doings, such as wrestler deaths and defections.
4. Why would they sue you over a book of opinions?
5. An insider's look at the history of the IWC. I truly think folks would want to at least read that.
6. Possibly some of the weirder threads could be used in #5 above.

I get first radio dibs on the book interview "tour".

So, Chris, if you are serious about publishing something - how come you put it in the Site Bashing area?

Come on now, are you trying to piggyback on all of Keith's "any publicity is good publicity" schtick?

Do you know anybody with any connections in the publishing business?

Edited for spelling - I know that was a big issue in another thread.

1. Didn't feel like reopening "CRZ's World"
2. ME? Do SCHTICK? Although, I WILL say that all this discussion has reminded me that I'd always meant to look into it, glowing praise from my one-time-agent notwithstanding
3. MAYBE, but I was actually thinking more along the self-publishing lines - too much of a niche to consider any kind of serious numbers, I'm thinking...plus I'd probably have a better chance of flying under the radar of the people whose copyrighted works I'm basically transcribing verbatim

I *believe* in the case of rewriting the Bible, it turned out that nobody ponied up the advance I wanted, so that's why that didn't happen. Plus the whole "pissin' off the LORD" thing.

If you are publishing it for a specific audience and think there may be the market for it, then why not?
Obviously, you have the following from here on this board. Is that enough to justify self-publishing costs? I have no idea.
Like with Scott's book, the meat of it (his reviews) are all available online. But for the lazy among us, its handy to have them all in one convenient location for reference, etc.

See, it's that kind of attitude that might encourage someone to go ahead and take his or her recap archive offline and publish a book.

1. Are you dumb enough to pay for this?

Probably.

2. No, seriously, how much cash are you dumb enough to part with to pay for this?

I'd go $20, maybe $30 if the extra content was interesting enough.

3. How much "extra" writing would it take to make you dumb enough to pay for this?

I like the idea of somehow reflecting and/or explaining, updating, or new material would be the trigger point for me, because then I'd actually have to READ it. If it were just the old recaps, I already have your whole website's worth of columns downloaded to disk, and I read most of the columns when they first appeared. Still, I occasionally go back to them for reference, and a book copy would be handy.

4. How many copies do you think could I get away with selling to dumb people before WWE sued me?

This is the company that brought back Sable. There IS no logical way to predict any movement made by them. On the same token, I find it hard to think of anything they could justify suing you over. You're recapping and reviewing a television show. Unless their lawyers are bored and need something to do so they launch a "we have all the money in the world to squash you with" campaign, I don't see a problem there. If they were that interested, they probably would have sued you over the web column in the first place.

1/2) I'm dumb enough to pay $14.95.

3) Definately would need to throw background and shit into the material, especially if my idea for 4-5 is used.

4-5) Here's a way to avoid getting sued by Vince: Write 'The Rise And Fall of the Turner Empire: The Rasslin Years.' This will provide the opportunity to insult Turner, Time Warner, Bischoff, Russo, AOL, SportsLine (come on, there will have to be at LEAST two chapters of the book dedicated to just ripping that group), and a host of others. An alternate title could be 'Laughing at the Abyss: An Analysis of How Ted Turner's Rasslin Company Was A Precipice for the Decline of His Financial Fortune.'

4a-5) Insulting Turner and AOL will probably sell alot of copies in this market.

I'd like it if you included some opinion on the product at the time, and how you feel that's changed/not changed over the years. Where did things go wrong? Have you sweetened up any to latter day WCW? That kind of stuff.

    4. How many copies do you think could I get away with selling to dumb people before WWE sued me?

More than one, less than a billion. I don't think the WWE COULD sue you unless you start throwing in copyrighted pictures and materials, because of the historical nature of your writing. Though, to be on the safe side, you should probably ask them if you could first.

    5. If you're NOT dumb enough to pay for this, any ideas about anything else I could write?

Pokemon reviews? I can't imagine how sick the Team Rocket people are of saying those same lines over and over and over again.

1. In this scenerio, do they still exist for free on / and tOA?

2. I'm very cheap. Plus, to me, the screen format is as good as the book format, so alone there'd be no advantages...

Currently, I do check out the old recaps (shaking my fist at you for not putting the last couple SmackDown! and RAWs! in the right indexes usually) - sometimes just because I'm looking for information about an archaic cruiserweight title match or something. Sometimes because I just want to read over old stuff - both remembering what happened and what funny joke you made about it.

But I think, as far as old stuff, I'm an outlier. And I'd try to get comped anyway, ha.

3. Looking at, say, other threads in this fine fine forum, I'm thinking it'd have to be a really high percantage of new analysis/thoughts/perspective compared to stuff you're just repeating. Stuff you're repeating just seems to make people unhappy.

(What would be workable is X amount of chapters like your review of the RAW with Owen/HBK fromj - was it EmZee? Can't remember. But that's the kinda stuff I think people would enjoy reading, I think. If it was possible.)

4. Have they sued Scott yet? I think we're all a lot more under their radar than anyone realizes...as long as you're not asking for their photos, you'd get by fine.

5. "How to accumlate a large amount of music for no particular reason"

6. well, there'd be worse books...

(Team Rocket can say it a billion times because it's so catchy.)

Sure, I'd buy it, but only if you called it "Gray's Sports (Entertainment) Almanac". I could then travel back in time and make money betting on Damien Demento matches.

Seriously, I'd definitely buy it. It would be really cool to have a detailed match/promo index at my fingertips. Yeah, I know it's available for free on the net, but throw in some exclusives for the buyers of the book and it'll sell OK.

20-30 bucks sounds about what I'd pay for it.

EDIT: In the future I will read posts more carefully before I ask questions.

1. Yes

2. It's tough to determine how this book would be structured. I can't imagine it being anything but EVERY report, but at the same time, I can't imagine a book that large. Only a certain year? How much I'd be willing to spend would determine on the amount of content (reports/pages). Probably up to 50 bucks or so.

3. The historical perspective and footnotes wouldn't be needed by longtime readers, but I think the "looking back at what you wrote" would be pure GOLD.

4. I have no idea.

5. Anything and everything.

6. Yes, that would be good reading as well. But I probably wouldn't BUY it.

Question: Would this include WCW reports as well? I'm just enjoying the thought of bringing the book to the non Zimmerman-reading friends and recounting old tales of Konnan and DJ Ran being all up in your area, or whatever the joke was. Good times.

Would not buy it. Though your recaps make for great, uh, recaping, your style is too dry and detailed to make it worth a purchace. I would consider buying a well indexed CD-rom of your recaps in HTML or PDF format.

2. If it's just cash that is keeping me from getting new recaps them I might have to consider it.
