I was thinking about wrestling movies today and since King of the Ring has been cancelled, how about a new tournament. Some of these movies are bad.... real bad. Some are so bad they are funny. Then there are a few that are perfectly good and watchable. So ladies and gentlemen I bring to you:

King of the Cinema Ring
-16 Movie Tournament-

They Live (Roddy Piper)
The Waterboy (Big Show)-----OUT
Man on the Moon (Jerry Lawler)
Highlander: End Game (Edge)
Universal Soldier: The Return (Goldberg)
Hell Comes to Frog Town (Roddy Piper
Body Slam (WWF)
No Holds Barred (Hulk Hogan)
Ready to Rumble (WCW)
Predator (Jesse Ventura)
The Princess Bride (Andre the Giant)
Rocky III (Hulk Hogan)
Black Mask 2 (RVD)
Spider-man (Macho Man)
Suburban Commando (Hulk Hogan & Undertaker)
Scorpion King (Rock)

Edit: (I added in Goldberg and Andre, goodbye Mr. Nanny and Sting)

Vote for which one you liked better and the winners move on in the tournament. PS: Before you ask, I trimmed out Assault on Devil's Island, 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain, Mummy Returns, Santa with Muscles, Shutterspeed, the Real Reason Men Commit Crimes, and Mr. Nanny.

Round 1 Match 1

They Live

vs.

The Waterboy

CRZ- I wasn't sure if you care for these type of threads on your board, but I did it anyway.

How dare you leave out Highlander: Endgame with Edge, Black Mask 2 with RVD, and the greatest of them all, Reggie's Prayer with Big Show. :p

I'll go with They Live in the first round. The Waterboy was a funny movie but nothing beats a movie with Roddy Piper who sees non-human beings or whatever thru a pair of shades.

You're right. I shouldn't have left them out. So I took out Santa with Muscles and Mummy Returns. Rock and Hulk weren't going to win with either of those anyway.

Now I won't be accused of holding down mid-carders.

He doesn't, especially, and so I shouldn't encourage you, but I find the topic irrestible.

I vote for "Ready to Rumble." Oh, not yet?

Then I vote for, "They Live," which I actually paid full price to see in a theatre on a weekend night when it came out.

I'd say I expect to ride Roddy to the finals, but that's just a little too ambiguous these days-- I'm not looking for one of his personal assistant gigs.

What, no mention of Buff Bagwell's Soft-Core Porno "Day of the Warrior"?

No Mention of Big Show's role as "Huge Santa" in "Jingle all the way"?

No mention of Kevin Nash as "Super Shredder" in "Ninja Turtles 2"?

No mention of Undertaker as "Hutch" in "Suberbian Comando"?

No Mention of Goldberg in "Universal Soldier: The Return"?

I could go on... but I'm tired.

ANyway, I'm voting for "They Live" as it gave birth to a classic Pipper line "I've come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I just ran out of bubble gum."

i gotta go w/ Rocky III to win. Hogan is great in it. However, he can't hold a candle to T in it.

Well you know something, Mean Gene...
...you start a thread about wrestlers in cinema, and there's no mention of the late, great Andre The Giant in The Princess Bride? For shame!!!!

Edit: For my vote, I would say Hogan in Rocky III would win the tournament, edging out The Rock in The Scorpion King (geez, The Rock just can't catch a break against Hogan, can he?) ;-)

How about "Running Man" with Jesse Ventura? And all the movies that Prof. Toro Tanaka was in?

I'm disappointed by the lack of a Santo movie or "Grunt! The Wrestling Movie" on this list. But among Waterboy vs. They Live, I gotta go with They Live, if for nothing else than the fight scene that went on and on and on. Fight scenes pad the film and prevent the inclusion of the nastiness known as 'plot', donchaknow?

I'm rather dissapointed in the lack of mentioning Freddy Blassie's Oscar worthy performance in My Breakfast With Blassie.

As for El Santo, my favorite of his was the CLASSIC Santo vs the Vampire Women, where bullets wouldn't hurt the vampires, but wrestling moves could.

Anyway, I'll also toss in for They Live, since Waterboy sucked balls.

End the voting now, They Live! is your winner. Surprisingly enough, this was actually a good flick and had a nice twist turn at the end. I like Waterboy, but Big Show was just a cameo, I say if they just had less then five minutes of screen time, the movie should be cut out of the list.

What about Tiny (Zeus) Lister -- Friday, Next Friday, The Fifth Element, Don Juan De Marco

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

I'm sorry. I feel really bad for leaving out all of those movies. Dammit I'm entering the Princess Bride. Andre kicked ass. I wanted a 16 movie tournament so some people were going to get screwed. So goodbye, Mr. Nanny.

"They Live" drops "the Waterboy" like a used rubber with a clean sweep of 6-0.

Man on the Moon... it actually dealt with wrestling and was just a better movie all together.
