Yeah, no shit. Other random tidbits:

Champs wear the belts to the ring... and DURING the match. Until they get knocked off. Really.

Same with entrance attire.

Game has TWO arenas- Raw and KOTR. (The fuck?)

No cage, no ladder, no HITC. No Alliance guys- no big shock there, though. No career mode.

There's a "lip lock" move in the game, so you can have Jackie and Lita make out until the cows come home.

Despite them being in the same segment where SMH's new pals officially debuted:

Stephanie's implants: in the game.
Booker T: not.

Here's what I want. The entire list (NOT the execution of the list, but just the entire list) of stips and matches available on SmackDown 3 for the PS2. The control setup of No Mercy for the 64. Maybe a CAW hybrid between No Mercy and the old Acclaim games- yes, Attitude/WarZone were fucking AWFUL, but the CAW weren't too bad. General graphics quality of X-Box Raw. THERE. Make that. I'll buy it.

Liplock move? You're kidding me, right?

Yeah, I saw a movie where Jericho took off Angle's medals in the match, and starting wearing them himself. Looked cool, but really does nothing important.

I thought there was a career mode though. I swear I remember hearing they delayed it because they realized it would bomb without a career mode.

The address doesn't work right now, but hopefully will be back up soon... anyway, it's of Trish and Lita having fun.

As for the career mode, just going solely on the review from IGN (unavailable unless you subscribe to the site)...

"The Title Mode lets you go after the Women's, Hardcore, European, Intercontinental, Light Heavyweight and WWF Heavyweight belts. But there's no story driving the action here. The higher the belt, you simply have more matches to win. The Women's Championship only requires three victories compared to 12 wins, against the very best guys in the game, for the WWF Championship."

"A story driven Career Mode is so sorely missed because the rest of WWF Raw is so very well done."

Personally, I'd take the GameCube second out of the three right now (with the XBox coming in last), but that's _right now_.

Right now:

PS2:
Massive game library (both native and PS1 titles)
Grand Theft Auto 3
Devil May Cry
State of Emergency (coming this week)

...and that's all _I_ need.

Sure, there are new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Perfect Dark and Resident Evil games coming to the Gamecube... eventually. Any of those coming by this summer? Nope. If you want to talk franchises, the PS2 has Final Fantasy 11, Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2 and Tenchu 3 on this year's calendar, along with talk of Grand Theft Auto 3: Miami by year's end and FIRE PRO in development, which is all I'll ever want in a wrestling game.

There is a lot of crap out there for the PS2. There will also be a lot of crap out there for EVERY game system that has ever been and will ever be. For all the acclaimed genius of Miyamoto, how much other crap was out there for the N64? Give the GC time -- they built it, the shovelware and other-console ports will come.

The PS2 and XBox have their quirks when playing DVDs... but who the hell bought a PS2 or an XBox to serve as their primary DVD player? I certainly didn't.

The graphics issue doesn't bother me, because (again, right now) I don't really notice much of a difference; games look damn good on all three.

Now, a year and a half down the road, things may be different, but if they are, I'll buy a Gamecube then and be thrilled with having both. By then, there should be a varied enough game library for me to want one that much (or lightning could strike me and make me want to play another Mario or Zelda game). And by that point, XBox games should be nice and cheap in clearance sales, if the games I've seen so far are any indication. They can have Halo, I'll take Serious Sam 2 on my PC. ;)

Coming from someone with all 3 systems...for *RIGHT NOW* I'd take a PS2. As has been said several time it has some great games out now, and others in development. Plus any 'classic' PSOne game that you loved is playable on teh PS2

THe XBox I haven't really touched since beating Halo and then Tony Hawk 2X, I've been playing NHL 2002 off and on. I don't mind the fact that X-Box games come on PC cause my PC can't handle any of them right now (PII 233)

The GameCube...I HATE THE CONTROLLER. It's too small and what the fuck is with the Z Trigger. I've played SSBM but after a while it gets boring cause it's the same thing over and over again. Monkey Ball lost my interest when the levels got insanly complicated. And Rouge Leader I havne't touched in a while.

As for PS2, I've been playing FFX like mad I have the new Crash PS2 game...and it has LONG ASS load times. It's apperenlty coming out for XBox so I'm selling the PS2 version and picking up the XBox version.

I've heard that RAW doesn't have many features, but you have to wonder which version they previewed since it has been delayed and is supposed to come either this week or next.

As for the XBox controller. I like it. Whoever was doing intereface development with Halo was a genius because it just became second nature while playing. I really like the controller for X-Box, I don't think it's too big at all. But then again I have big hands.

However the PS2 Controller is best ever. It's a great size and everything is in the right place. Unlike the GameCube controller that is SO FUCKING SMALL! The Z trigger is just wrong, I too am a N64 Contoller lover too, why did they mess with it?

As for the future it's hard to tell, if you like the Nintendo mainstays then a GameCube, all though with Zelda looking the way it's supposed I might not touch it.

XBox? I'm not sure what in the future for it. Which will somewhat hurt it. PlayStation benefited from FF7 right away, and the PS2 'struggled' for a bit right away. It's all about the Second Gen games! :P

Since I'm a tighwad, I picked up a Dreamcast a couple of months ago for $50. Even though it's nearly three years old, it has better graphics than a PS2 and a built-in modem for online play. It's got a great library of games that are dirt-cheap right now, too.

They aren't making any more games for it -- NHL 2k2 will be the last game (comes out tomorrow), but the current library of 100+ games can stand toe to toe with all of the next-gen consoles.

The single most entertaining single-player action game on the planet today. PERIOD. (I'll leave some wiggle room for the RPG fans and the run-and-gun FPS types to tout those genres.)

Your character (a thug, betrayed and left for dead, now wandering the big city in search of cash, criminal employment and fun) can do just about anything that comes to mind. Work for gang bosses and advance the storyline, search for hidden items, vehicle jumps, missions and bonuses, carjack taxis or emergency vehicles and perform their typical functions, avoid or abuse the police as circumstances dictate, or just go nuts whacking grandmothers and hookers with baseball bats and grenades.

The graphic engine is smooth, the storyline is rock-solid with a few loose threads left for the sequel, the radio stations are AWESOME (particularly the reggae and talk-radio tracks), and there's absolutely no way to get bored. If you have a PS2, buy it; if you don't have a PS2, buy one FOR it. It's that damn good.

As for the "banning" rumors, the _only_ place where it is being banned (and retooled into a teen-rated edition) is in Australia. If you're in the United States, you have full access to the full version and that's not about to change.

Only ban I've heard is that the Norweigan government is trying to get GTA3 banned. Who cares? Some stores like Target or K-Mart may remove it, but you'll be able to find it at an EBworld or Software Etc.

As for me, I'm sticking with my PC and waiting for the PC ports of GTA3, Halo, and Tony Hawk 3.

Umm, not to try and burst anybody's bubble, but I doubt Halo is going to come out for computer any time soon. If I was Microsoft, I'd make sure that Halo didn't come out for PC until Halo 2 ads were playing.

Ubermonkeys, you do have a point. That post was way pro-GC on my part, but I was trying to get the point across that the console should not be dismissed. I like the PS2 quite a bit. A lot of the games are great (GTA3, FFX, MGS2, etc...) but a lot of the games are also crappy. Sony has a habit of letting any of its licensees put out any old crap they want. It gets hard to tell which games might be good, and which ones suck. Nintendo may not have many games out for the GC, but that's because, at least in the past, they don't put out a game until it's good, and it's ready. They also asked that of their licensees. They're trying to shy away from that stance now, in an effort to keep up with the deluge of Sony titles. If you want to understand what Nintendo is thinking, pick up "Game Over: Press Start To Continue" by David Sheff. It's a book. Most EBs will have it for like 2 bucks.

When a customer would want to buy a game console from me, I would most definitely let them know all the advantages of all the consoles they had to choose from, but I can't tell you how many times someone came in all hepped up on X-Box hype, and ended up leaving with a PS2 or GC. The X-Box is, in my opinion, not a good choice right now. The games are, for the most part, really not that great. The games that are really good are also available for the PS2. The X-Box has the potential to become a good game system, but if you wanna buy on potential, get the Gamecube. Nintendo has a proven track record, Microsoft doesn't. If you're buying a system so you can play a lot of great games RIGHT FUCKING NOW, get the PS2.

As far as the GC/N64 controller comparison goes, I really think the GC controller is better. The three sticks on the 64's was a bit much. The GC controller is basically a condensed N64 controller. You have more buttons, built-in rumble, no memory card slot hanging out the bottom, the button layout is much more logical, and an extra analog stick. Not to mention the really kickass analog triggers. They click! My only beef with the GC controller is that fucking tiny-ass Z button. The 64 has the edge there, but nowhere else.

Regarding GTA3, anything you hear about it beyond the following is a lie:

There are no plans to ban it, or alter it, in the USA. It was banned in Australia. It originally took place in New York City, but the programmers thought killing NYC Police was in bad taste after September 11th, so the game was delayed, and they reporgrammed it to be Liberty City. AFAIK, it was toned down a bit before release to avoid an AO (Adults Only) rating, which would have effectively banned it, as no major chain would carry an AO-rated game. FYI, there has never been an AO-rated game in North America.

One last thing for y'all to think about in the console wars...unless the game is made by Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, it is free to come to pretty much any system. So be on the lookout for GTA3 for X-Box, and Soul Calibur 2 for GC.

Hey Lou.

Just one thing I wanted to touch on. We'll obviously agree to disagree about the GC and N64 controllers, but I just wanted to know- is the (in my opinion) tiny GC d-pad really comfortable for you to use?

I have about average size hands, I guess, and it seems really small and awkward to me. For the pro X-Box controller people on here (read: big handed), I can't even imagine what it must be like for them.

I still think the dreamcast controller may be one of the best... it always felt very comfortable to me, the analog was nice, the d-pad was a good size, and the pressurized triggers were cool. Can't forget the surprisingly well-excuted idea of the VMU window... something I'm surprised MS and Nintendo didn't incorporate into their controllers. Hell, that X-Box controller "jewel" could easily be carved out for a little lcd screen, adding functionality AND making it look less gawdy.

I know Nintendo lets you use the GBA in this way somewhat, but then you're stuck with a two button controller. Bleh.

Background: I'm not a small guy I'm 6'5 and 270, so this may explain my bias.

I just recently went through the agony of picking a system. I was very close to buying a Game Cube, but I ended up buying the PS2 for one reason. Tony Hawk 3.

I just liked the way that game played on the PS2 better. For me, the $100 was worth it for that alone.

I tried holding the GC controller at Target, and it was just too tiny for me. Maybe its because I'm used to my Dreamcasat - but I like a larger controller. For me, the XBox controller is a good fit - but my girlfriend absolutely refused to use it.

In summary, How the fuck did they make Super Bust a Move so bad, when Bust a move 4 on PSONe or DC is the all time best game ever?

Ahh, Bust-A-Move....such a good game....

Anyway, for the controller debate. I, historically, have liked big controllers. The DC controller and the round NiGHTS Sega Saturn controller will always be two of my all-time faves. I do actually have large hands, being 6'3" tall. But the X-Box controller is just too much. It's not just the unnecessary size, it's the fact that the buttons are rounded hard ovals. They really hurt after a while. The D-pad is pretty crappy too, and the right analog stick gets in the way of the start button. The GC D-pad may be a bit too small, but I haven't come across a game where you use the D-pad for an extended period of time, so I honestly don't see the problem. Ubermonkeys, I'm surprised that if you liked the triggers on the DC, you didn't get the GC just for its triggers alone! And the GC-GBA link doesn't mean you HAVE to use the GBA for all the in-game controls...examples:

NFL 2k3 will have a VMU playcalling feature where you use the GBA controls and screen to pick your play (really only needs two buttons. BTW, the GBA has 6 buttons, counting the shoulders and start and select) then for execution of the play, you use the GC controller.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle will have you raising Chaos in the GBA. All in-game controls are done with the GC pad.

Animal Forest 2 will treat the GBA as another town, and when you enter it, you use the GBA screen and controls.

I think this just might have been a theoretical example, but in a Kirby game, when you fall off the level in the GC, you fall into the GBA screen, then use the GBA controls to try to get back up to the GC level.

Sounds pretty cool to me. Although I agree that the GBA should have an X-Y-B-A button layout, given that it's a handheld SNES (greatest system ever.)

I didn't even know the GBA had shoulder buttons. My bad.

I do have to say that, yeah, I like the triggers on both the GC and the X-Box. The clicking is cool, too.

Doesn't the GBA just plug into a controller port? It's just that, for NFL2K3, there goes your four player capabilities... at a time when you'd really need the GBA. (Though I imagine it would be perfectly fine for a one on one game.)

It does bug me that you have to buy a seperate 90 dollar gaming system just to use a feature like that.

I guess the d-pad issue isn't really one for you, like you said, not using it and all. I just prefer using a d-pad to an analog stick whenever I have the option... old school.

Hey, I'm as old-school as they come, but sometimes you gotta move with the times. I can't imagine playing Super Monkey Ball with the d-pad.

As for the GBA, you wouldn't just be plunking down your $70, yes $70, for a controller. The GBA is fast becoming my favorite system of all time, handheld or otherwise. What with Golden Sun(!), Fire Pro Wrestling A, Tony Hawk 2, Advance Wars, Breath of Fire(!), Street Fighter 2, Super Mario 2 Advance, Super Mario World(!!), Mario Kart, a new Pokemon game later this year, and god knows how many other great SNES ports (CHRONO TRIGGER PLEASE!) on the way. Not to mention 4 player link, Game Boy and Game Boy Color compatibility (I'm currently smacking the shit out of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons), and the fact that it's built like a goddamned tank (I dropped mine from 10 feet up onto a tile floor. The batteries popped out. That's it. EGM flushed one down a toilet, and it still worked), you honestly cannot go wrong buying one of these things.

It does plug into a controller port, but the whole idea of VMU playcalling seems more suited to two players than four, at least to me. Hell, I hate playing 2k1 with four players on the DC anyway, so it wouldn't matter for me. Video game football is strictly a one-on-one affair in my circle of friends. Now Perfect Dark, on the other hand....that's where the four-player fucking up begins....;)

This is true, but the screen is ultra soft, and gets scratched up very easily. From what I've heard, there's no fix for them, or replacement screens available, so puchasing a cover for the screen (they come rather cheap) is also a good idea.

Eh, I'd never get a GBA. Probably because I never go anywhere. And would rather play old SNES games illegally on my PC... not that I'd ever do such a thing.
