Thanks, redsox. I just read the tidbit on 411. And still, I'm not so sure that Goldberg was to blame.

Apparently, Goldberg was backstage, talking to people about his philosophy on how his character should be booked-- that if he sells the offense of a small wrestler, his character is diminished. Jericho was offended by this and confronted Goldberg, and a fight broke out.

I dunno... what Goldberg said about his character doesn't sound much different than something Nathan Jones might say.

I suspect that it's just as likely that Jericho is bitter and has a vendetta as it is that Goldberg is running around backstage, mindlessly insulting the other wrestlers.

WTF? How could you possibly agree with that "philosophy"? He should sell the offense of a handicapped hamster if that's somehow what's best for business.

I didn't say I agreed with the philosophy. I don't. If the Undertaker can sell for Jeff Hardy, Golderg can sell for Jericho.

But I also don't think what Goldberg said was so outrageous that it should cause a grown man to be fighting mad.

It's just his point of view on his character. And after working with the "Red Rooster" Terry Taylor in WCW, I don't blame Goldberg if he's protective of his character, and neither should Jericho.

Now, if Goldberg said that he would NEVER sell any offense from Jericho, even if McMahon himself said to, that would be something different. But just stating your philosophy doesn't to me seem worthy of flying fists.

That is the most moronic thing I've ever heard. According that philosophy Goldberg then should be jobbed out to The Big Show, UT, Kane, etc... And he should bump like a pinball for every one of them. Loser... I hope Jericho got in a couple good shots anyway.

Other than the "dirt sheets" is there any proof that this happened? Either way...I don't care.

I like watching Goldberg on TV...in WCW he entertained me, I hope he can do so in the WWE. As for what he's like as a person, I could care less. I don't know him, never will. Our entire relationship is based on his TV persona.

As for Jericho...can someone explain the love for him? I've never cared for his character...it's too over the top and ham-handed with the over acting. I'll never take him seriously either as a face or heel...to me his mic work just isn't convincing...i.e. he sounds "fake". But that's just me...

His ring work is alright, but like I said the personality just doesn't do it for me.

I just read the article on 411 myself; here's a piece of it:

"Goldberg apparently made some comments to various people backstage at RAW on Monday about Chris Jericho and how he is "small" and doesn't like to sell moves for people. Jericho eventually became aware of the comments and confronted Goldberg right after his match on RAW. The two then got into a fight, with Goldberg initially trying to choke Jericho. Jericho then slapped Goldberg's hands away and put him in a front facelock. The two then went to the ground before being broken up."

If this is true, it doesn't sound to me like he was talking about his philosophy, but ragging specifically on Jericho, and saying Jericho doesn't like to sell for people. If this is true, I don't blame Jericho for standing up for himself one bit.

I'm just trying to put things in the most plausible terms.

It doesn't seem plausible that Goldberg, brand new to the WWE, would single out Jericho as someone he'd never sell for. And it doesn't seem pausible that Jericho would fly into a rage unless Goldberg said SOMETHING.

I'm engaging in conjecture here, trying to guess what actually happened. As we all are, to a degree.

Man, I hope Goldberg KICKS JERICHO'S ASS. THEN we could all pretend that WE'D been there, and get all self-righteous about it! Because OF COURSE we ALL know what goes down backstage, and Bob Ryder would NEVER lie to US, his most loyal fans.

Newsflash: He's a journo, children. And one with a poor reputation at that. Now I know that if he'd have pinned the blame on Jericho, THEN we'd get the scorn that THIS deserves. Try to bear that in mind, 'kay?

If we're talking about size, has anyone noticed how diminutive Golberg looks next to Rock? I swear, Rock even looks a little bigger. He's gonna be dwarfed next to someone like Brock or HHH.

And Rock sold his ASS off for Jericho during their little feud.

I noticed that too the other night. Has he always looked that way or did he lose some muscle? Either way Goldberg needs to hit the weight room big time.

And the cool thing about Rock is he sells his ass off for everyone.

They have issues dating back to the aborted angle in the Fall of '98.

How far did that angle get? Were they actually teasing a match, or was it just Jericho calling for a shot at Goldberg?

The 'net version back then was that Kevin Nash, in his infinite wisdom, killed the possible match, as any offense Jericho would have gotten in would have made it less impressive when Nash 'shockingly' won the title at Starrcade '98.

Well if Scherer is to be believed, it seems most of the locker room is behind Jericho on this one. Some of the quotes he supposedly got from anonymous wrestlers are as follows;

"In less than a week, Goldberg proved what he's all about. He can't work, he can't talk, and he's a backstage disaster."

"Outside of the ring, Bill is a great guy but the second he gets into the locker room and the ring, he becomes a different person. As nice and caring as he is away from the ring, he's the exact opposite inside it."

"I don't think the guy realizes that the business is a work."

Think it was HHH that made that last comment?

Look at the bright side, if it is true and Goldberg is to take the blame, fighting a coworker would be an acceptable reason for Vince to fire him and not lose a great deal of money contract wise. Even though that happnening is doubtful.

From what I can crib together about what I remember about that "feud":

This was back at the time when Jericho wasn't given ANYTHING to do. WCW higher ups realized that he was probably entertaining enough to fill out a segment, so they just told him to go out there, do his thing and fill up time. Not really given an angle, Jericho went out and winged it.

He figured he could draw out an entertaining little feud with Goldberg (fully expecting that it'd end with him getting squashed) to kill time for both of them between PPVs. So he started going out there and "calling out" Goldberg.

Somebody (reportedly either Hogan or Nash) told Goldberg that the feud was a dumb idea, that Jericho was a nobody, and that he should just ignore Chris' attempts to make an angle. Goldberg did as he was advised and just kept on like Jericho didn't exist. This went on until either WCW told Jericho to drop it or Jericho realized that nothing was going to come of it, so he was looking like a fool, (don't remember which) and nothing ever came of it.

Poor, poor Jericho, he just can't win. Well, let's put him in the same boat as RVD, Booker T, Kane and all the other losers who we so desperately want to be winners. We gotta make room for all of the "big guys" Vince loves, like HBK, Hulk, Piper and Sable...

I doesn't shock me too much if this did happen. I almost expected Jericho to go after Eric more than anybody else, but he let that go, I think. Plus, Flair got to him first. You can look at this way its either a total bullshit story that someone made up, because they knew both had a past history. They go to one of the dirt sheet sites and then bang instant story. I would hope the sites would actually know the truth before they wrote it, but seeing Hyatte's comment about Will the Worker, I am not sure.

The other side is that Goldberg has to be immediatly fired. There is no excuse for attacking, if the second part of the story is true, another co-worker. Jericho was in all rights to defend himself and keep Goldberg from attacking him further with the headlock. If he did take a cheap shot at Goldberg too then he should be punished as well. He either loses his spot on the PPV or is sent home without pay for two weeks. I can't really fault Jericho too much since he was the one on the defensive, yet he should be disciplined for even getting in Bill's face.

Bill should be fired, because you just don't attack co-workers. Vince is supposed to run a tight ship, well I don't see here. If stuff like this starts happening then Vince might as well hand the WWE to the next big promotion, whenever that gets here. For months now, the WWE has been compared fairly or unfairly to WCW's last days. I would say if the story is true then Vince needs to make a statement and fire Bill's ass. Because more shit like this is going to happen if someone doesn't get demoted for it. And trust me when I say that if the story is true and no one gets fired or suspended for it then you can clearly see the WWE is in its last days.

A Fan- The Clique is back, Steph wants more yes men, Bill is attacking wrestlers backstage, anymore signs of the Apocylpse that we need?
