The summer movie season officially begins next month, and X2 is going to kick things off may 2nd in a little over three weeks. Just wondering what movies you are looking forward to checking out this summer, or what movies do you think the summer is going to bring about that are as Strong Bad would say, "total crap."

TRIVIA: Name as many movies as possible that have or will get a wide theatrical release on a Thursday other than Star Wars episode 2 and Matrix reloaded.

Here are some movies I'm excited about this summer:

X2-Fox has been been promoting and marketing this movie very well with the trailers, tv ads, etc. now that they have confidence that the franchise can make money. Not to mention that x2 comes out in the early may spot which is consistently a great time for a high profile move to get a huge opening (ie 2002: Spider-man, 2001: The Mummy Returns, 2000: Gladiator, 1999: The Mummy, 1998: Deep Impact, 1996: Twister) A lot of fans enjoyed the first x-men movie, but left wanting more which I suppose is better than nothing and could get that with this movie. However, I just hope that the x-men movies don't peak here and Singer and co. can tell more great stories.
Release date: May 2nd

Matrix Reloaded-after you heard the groans and boos at the end of the first teaser trailer before Star wars, Episode 2 where the numbers "2003" flashed on the screen, you got to believe fans will be going in with the highest expectations after waiting patiently (and some not so patient) for the year of the matrix. The first matrix was somewhat under the radar turned big hit and one of the best selling DVD's of all time. I enjoy the matrix but not as much as some of my friends, plus most of the animatrix shorts thus far have been pretty underwhelming, especially Detective Story by Shinichiro Watanabe. Matrix Reloaded is going to clock in at about 2 hours 20 minutes, plus it will have an R rating, and the sequels have a gigantic budget. But then again, I believe Matrix Reloaded is going to open up on the largest amount of screens ever for one movie so it will probably still do good.
Release date: May 15th

Finding Nemo-Pixar usually delivers pretty good with their movies, not just because of their great animation and technique but compelling and humorous story telling and exceptional voice work. Anyway, remember even though Disney puts their name and logo on it, the reason Finding Nemo won't suck is because Pixar is doing it...not Disney I think finding nemo will probably be one of the few original big movies of the summer, I mean in the sense that its not a sequel, prequel, remake, or adaptation...or at least I don't think it is. Feel free to correct me.
Release date: May 30th

The Hulk-Anyway, there's some stuff I've seen and heard about this movie that looks really lame and ridiculous, but the footage in the teasers and tv spots have been looking kinda cool. I just hope it doesn't end up as some really bloated, dumb cliche summer movie, because I think the source material goes a lot deeper than that...
Release date: June 20th

Pirates of the Caribbean-this movie looks like it could be some good fun like the mummy or mask of zorro. Johnny Depp is usually an entertaining, charismatic actor despite his varied filmography. I'd be less paranoid about this project however if I didn't know that Jerry Bruckheimer was the producer. I think the movie will do some decent business even up against T3 (comes out July 2nd) which will be "total crap"
Release date: July 9th

The crap:

Dumb and Dumberer-Do I even have to say why? And look everything on the crap list is either a sequel or the ever popular prequel When's the prequel to Shallow Hal coming out?
Release date: June 13th

Charlie's Angels 2-I dunno, I just can't stand that first movie. Instead of this movie, I implore you to watch the parody of charlie's angels on Alvin and the Chimpunks, that was a great episode. Anyway, even though it will be a giant piece of crappy MTV fluff, it will probably do pretty well, so I don't know jack.
Release date: June 27th

Terminator 3-Ok so let's see. Arnold Schwarzenegger? Check. $200 million plus budget? Check. A huge recently merged corp. (AOL/TW) wrought with scandal and constantly losing money despite a huge merge desperate to make a really bad uneeded sequel? Double check. Let's see what this movie doesn't have. No James Cameron, not even as a consultant. No William Wisher. No Linda Hamilton. No Edward Furlong. And what else? no new original music by Brad Fiedel who did the last 2. I think its sad that Arnold can't accept that he's in his mid-50's and he's not a top draw anymore, and this movie has disaster written all over it. Looks like Warner Brothers and Arnold are going to have to learn their lessons the hard way. Let's see Warner Brothers get ready to dump another 200 million dollars on Superman five after this summer is over.
Release date: July 2nd

Legally Blonde 2-How dare MGM and WB make American audiences choose between Reese Witherspoon and Arnold Schwarzenegger. What nerve, the unmitigated gaul of them!
Release date: July 2nd

League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen-This is really a shame because I really enjoyed the graphic novel by Alan Moore. Watching the trailers, I'm really happy that Sean Connery didn't play Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. From what I understand most of the cool stuff from the TPB was jettisoned and the whole thing with adding characters like Tom Sawyer to make it more accessible to americans is really stupid. Why not add like John Carter of Mars or something? And why no Dr. Fu Manchu? And the new villain is the fantom, what like the phantom of the opera? LAME! Anyway from what I've seen the only thing this movie reminds me of is the Avengers movie. Remember that with Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes, and...of course Sean Connery. Well good luck to Stephen Norrington and James Robinson's next movie...a westernized live action version of AKIRA.
Release date: July 11th

Tomb Raider 2-This will be the only way for us fellow smegheads to get our Rimmer fix before the red dwarf movie comes out. Does it come to anyone as a shock that the tomb raider games really blow? Just a bunch of lame boring puzzle solving crappy action exploration games which was only appealing to guys because the main character was a girl with big boobs and rumors of a non-existent nude code. Paramount should've quit while they were ahead with the first movie, that's all I have to say.
Release date: July 25th

Other stuff:
Daddy Day Care, May 9th
Bruce Almighty, May 23rd
2 Fast 2 Furious, June 6th
SWAT, August 8th

Is there ANY news recently on the Red Dwarf movie? I'd not heard any.

And while it isn't technically a summer release, I'm looking forward to Bulletproof Monk, myself.

As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh, haven't you?

Looks like another summer of sequels, remakes and big budget comic book adventures.

And they say wrestling has no more originality.

Bruce Almighty looks like either a huge summer blockbuster hit or the next "Liar, Liar". I'm not complaining either way, mind you.

And one movie that hasn't been brought up is "Bad Boys 2". Was ANYBODY waiting for that sequel? ANYBODY???

Crap, I totally forgot about Bad Boys 2, well that one can go down the toilet as well.

As for the Red Dwarf movie, I think production was delayed b/c of Chris Barrie playing the butler in Tomb Raider 2. IMDB also says production was delayed due to the cinematographer for the red dwarf movie also working on Tomb Raider 2 so take it as you will. Either way, we can all blame it on Tomb Raider 2 and of course Eidos, the company that created the shitty game series.

I never knew a title could have two sets of colons. (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life)

This looks like a good summer for my wallet, as other than the Matrix stuff which my girlfriend would force me to see if I wasn't interested anyway, there's nothing on that list I can't wait to see on video or DVD. Although Shaolin Soccer has my piqued my curiousity.

I apologize for being a Buffy/Angel mark.

Master and Commander has a LONGASS title, which I think sucks. Ah well...

A great summer. Three comic movies, T3, two Matrix movies, plus a lot of directors trying new things. Awesome.

Ok, I guess i'm going to be the only one to say they think this summer is going to suck. Out of all the movies listed so far the only one i'm looking foward to is Incredible Hulk because A) i'm interested in how the Hulk is going ot look and B) Jennifer Connelly. I'll probably see X2 eventually but i'm in no rush since I didn't like the first one. I also don't like Matrix, Terminator, Dumb and Dumber or any of the other movies that they are re-hashing. I did like the first Legally Blonde but not looking forward to a sequel. Everything else is just blah.

Bad Boys 2 has potentially the funniest promtional line of the summer: "From the director and producer of Pearl Harbor".

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

X2 is the only "for sure" for me.

I saw a trailer over the weekend for "Kill Bill", the new Quentin Tarantino film. IMDB says:

"'The Bride' was once part of a group of world class female assassins, until the group leader, 'Bill' and the other assassins turn against her. Five years later 'The Bride' awakens from the coma the assassins left her in and heads out to seek bloody revenge. Unlike conventional movies, Kill Bill is told in chapter format making the narrative flow more like a book than a film."

The trailer was basically Uma Thurman ("The Bride"), Lucy Liu, and ninjas. Lots and lots of ninjas. I am SO there.

Ok, let me clarify. If Bruce Almighty becomes the next big box office hit, I won't complain because it actually looks that good. If it becomes like "Liar, Liar", in that it's an ok movie that isn't really heralded today, I won't complain there either, because...well..."Liar, Liar" is a damn funny movie and I loved it.

How can I be the ONLY person on the board psyched up for Freddy Vs. Jason? This movie will be the end all-be all of my summer movie going experience. I've been waiting 4 years for this shit to finally make it to the screen.

Other then that, I'll go see Legally Blonde 2 because Reese is a goddess, The Hulk because it's THE HULK!, Bulletproof Monk(which hasn't been mentioned yet some how?) because Chow Yun Fat kicks ass, and T3 because I pick one shit movie a year to see in the theatres during the summer that I'm going to hate and this year T3 gets the nod.

Here's the thing Cerebus. After waiting 16 years for the new star wars movie, fans got way overhyped for The Phantom Menace, and clearly they do not want to make the same mistake for Freddy vs. Jason. So after they see freddy vs. jason they will not be disappointed like they were with Star Wars.

Cerebus, I and everyone I know are going to be at Freddy Vs. Jason on opening night. I don't care if it's the worst movie of all time, just seeing those two on screen at once would be a moment like seeing Donald and Daffy together in Roger Rabbit.

Spoiler... somewhat.

At the end of Jason Goes To Hell, when the Freddy glove comes out of the ground and pulls down the hockey mask, I and my friend Chris squeeledlike little schoolgirls at a NSync concert. The theatre was about 4/5th full and from the reaction of others in the audience, a Freddy/Jason collaberation was gonna be cool as fuck. I didn't hear 1 person say it would be stupid or it would suck. These types of movies are not SUPPOSED to be 'good' It's not like you're seeing Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia, it slash-kill-blood! It's gonna be excatly what it sets out to be, a cool fucking movie that will please all fans of the genere.

Jason X wasn't bad, I actually enjoyed it more then most of the others,(save the 1st and 6th installments, Jason Lives being my favorite.) but after the last ones ending, promising the 2 together, I was rather dissatisfied with it.

What would be extremely kick ass would be to have Mike Meyers do a walk-on, that would RULE!
