Maybe the only reason Vince is bringing them in is so no one else can start a promotion around them. Nash's contract expired and for the first time the important parts of the NWO were avaiable to open market simultaneously. The WWF has every major wrestling name locked up under contract now. Turner has control over his stations and may decide to air wrestling again, but without Flair and Hogan I don't think he'd even try. They even seem to be paying Hennig just to sit on his ass instead of compete with them. In a couple years, these guys will be to old to help any promotion, and then Vince can let them go, insuring that ALL active wrestling stars were created by the WWF.

I guess Vince figured that since the WCW invasion angle flopped miserably (primarily due to his own crappy booking) that he might as well get something tangible out of the purchase. LOL...

Yeah, I know, they've now got DDP, Booker T, The Hurricane, and access to a ton of young former WCW guys. Still, they're not being used right at this point, at least in my opinion.

This nWo thing might turn out to be quite interesting, if they play it right and don't let it flop like the Invasion did. They've done a good job so far explaining how the nWo could destroy the WWF, but it remains to be seen whether or not they'll book it right.

I've got to be optimistic on this, because if things turn out badly, it could be another huge blow to the WWF.

The Invasion lacked star power. The WWF fans didn't really care about them besides Booker, RVD, Shane Helms and to some extent Billy Kidman.

Not to say the booking wasn't crappy - they had Booker, Lance Storm (despite winning the IC Title) and did not utilize them properly.

The nWOLD is just there to pop ratings and reclaim those old WCW fans that left - if nothing else.

All I know is this:

Vince had BETTER consider re-hiring Eddie Guerrero down the road. I like Scott Hall and all but this was a bit hypocritical to hire him back.

Scott Hall >>apparently<< cleaned up (don't base your response on seeing him look drunk in a two second shot..
Eddie said he was clean, feeling better then ever in a big wwf.com promo only to be arrested two days later.
And JR never said they would not rehire him if he was free of any substances..same for GM Sexay..it's just not something you do the next week.

As for the nWo? They are available, and could make for some dramatic tv which could spike your ratings for a bit. During that time you use the nWo, you can make people care about your young and upcoming (WCW) wrestlers, which is something the Invasion wasnt able to do as those upcoming guys were all booked to play the heel and job.

Trickknee might be right just a bit. By having these guys it will be tough for any promotion to really get into the mainstream. However, ECW did it once..who knows some other fed might do it again.
Just will be very tough to do as it will be hard to stand out without going sickingly extreme (which will not get you a tv show i guess)

The Invasion angle didn't lack star power. Granted, there weren't as many "names" as there could have been, BUT stars could have been created. The booking wouldn't allow that --every week WCW/ECW titleholders were jobbing to run-of-the-mill WWF flotsam -- and the angle was just so poorly written, we couldn't wait for it to end. For example, Shane & Steph should never have gotten involved; put Flair in their place and things might have been different.
Vince messed up the Invasion angle, and he'll make the same mistakes with the nWo diversion.
I mean, surely Vince isn't going to make those three dogs actually get in matches and wrestle? Check out the pace of the tag matches that ended the last Raw/Smackdown. Can you seriously think Hogan/Nash/Hall can keep up with that? And name me one current headliner willing to do the job to put them over.

HHH?

And The Rock is already a jobber anyway - so he'll put them over if he's asked to.

I have to agree. I would think HHH would put his pals over, The Rock will put anyone over, same for Angle. I don't think Stone Cold would have a problem either. And Jericho doesn't really have the stroke to refuse to job.

Nod. poorly written. But it makes sense the wwf would survive thus other than Booker and 1 or 2 others who were stars already (RVD, maybe..just maybe Storm) nobody would have been capable of making it in this feud, no matter how it had played I think..

As the others above stated HHH will job. I don't know about that, I don't think it is his choice to job or not
But I do expect the WWF guys to job a bit to the nWo. However, never under clean circumstances. You don't have to expect the nWo to deliver super fast paced matches, they are not required to. They are supposed to fuck things up!!!! Someone else in another thread said they will probably get belts and then refuse to work with stars, cause DQ's etc etc..because that is how they destroyed WCW. Difference is, just before we get really sick of it, I expect the WWF (under Flair) to strike back and stuff..
OR..we split before all this shit happens and the playfield totally changes again and we are all wrong no matter what we think up now..

I also think another problem with Invasion with also a lack of star power on the WWF side. No HHH, Benoit and Rock for most of the angle didn't help any. A Benoit lead WCW/ECW would have brought a little more to the table espically the promos he would cut. I don't think HHH in Invasion would have made any differance, but not using Rock properly until the end was a poor decision. Although, Rock did end up saving the WWF, he was and has been since used poorly.

A Fan- Wondering if NWO would have saved Invasion anyway.

Benoit's promos would have helped the Invasion? Are we talking about CHRIS Benoit here?

I guess I must be one of the minority who actually like Benoit's promos. I thought his mic work from the Angle feud until his injury was damn solid as he got points across, slipped in a few taunts here and there, and generally played the part of the killing machine quite well. His promos would not be effective if he weren't such a machine in the ring, but everything he says comes across better because he has such a mean style of wrestling.

I think people give Benoit too much credit for his promos. There's really not much there. He sounds stilted and boring every time I've heard him.

As a huge Benoit fan I've never thought his promos were very good. Someone once posted here that good promos start with a grain of truth (like Edge's promo on Billy Gunn or Y2J's promo after the RR).

The problem is that no one has given Benoit an angle where he could cut a great truthful promo. One might be against the NWO's "vanilla midget" atttude. Another might be as a smaller talented man against the bigger brawling preference.

Now THAT would be fun. Have Benoit work over Kevin Nash because he's incensed about the "vanilla midget" comment. It would also play into his quiet tough guy image.

Look, the Invasion angle was a tremendous opportunity that Vince missed because his ego got in the way, as usual. Let's not forget that the Alliance was LED by Austin and the Macmahon kids (read: WWF people). Where was the identification with ECW or WCW that the angle needed? The two greatest moments in all the months the angle played out? The instant when the Alliance was first revealed, and at the end when Heyman went ballistic on Vince about how he hated Vince for stealing all his ideas. Which means:
If they'd let Paulie lead the Alliance (and write it, and book it), Tazz, Awesome, Lance etc. would be over today. (Some of them, anyway.)
My point being: we now know that Steph will be getting involved with this nWo + Vince crap. Which means that unless we get some shocking (and they better be SHOCKING)defections, this angle is gonna stink to high heaven, because we're gonna have to watch "MacMahon TV" for months.

The angle fell short also because they couldn't get Sabu, the Sandman, Vampiro, Rey Mysterio, Jr., or the Jung Dragons, you know, guys that made the latter days of WCW a little fun. Also, the biggest miss of all was Sting. Sting howling for the first time in the WWF would have been epic. Unfortunately, he apparently lost all of his familiar enthusiasm to weretle again.

Wait that has to be false. Nash owned the NWO name? Did Big Lazy really have so much stroke that he got copyrights on angles? Vince bought NWO when he bought WCW right? Could Ted Turner have pissed away any more money and control of his own company?

Can I ask any more questions?

I think he meant Hall and Hogan were not under contract for a while already and with Nash' turner contract expiring all nwo members became available. The rights were indeed with wcw, thus with vince. (I guess that also goes for the horsemen name? also wcw/wwf owned now?)
