It seems that the general opinion of wrestling fans is that Rock/Goldberg is the dream match that people have wanted to see since both of these guys got to be megastars.

Personally, I've always thought that Stone Cold/Goldberg was the dream match. I've wanted to see Austin beat his ass for years now. Goldberg stole his tough-ass-bald-guy-with-a-goatee look, after all.

I just want to know why everybody seems to think that Rock/Goldberg is the one megastar match that we haven't seen yet.

Opinions?

Well, I think a big part of it is that Austin is just too fragile to be put in the ring with a guy like Goldberg, so people just dismiss that match right away. Taking Bret Hart out with a missed super-kick is something he'll probably never live down, and guys have to be careful as it is with Austin's bad neck.

Jake, you beat me to this post you bastard... hehe. I totally agree w/ you. To me it has always been more of a dream matchup, Austin mark or not to see these two hook up. It goes all the way back to Goldbergs WCW days where he challenged Stone Cold to an interpromotional match that he knew Austin, due to the contractual limits of the time could not honor. And as far as a run in at Mania like many have speculated about, it would make more sense for Goldberg to come in as a heel and destroy Austin after he interferes to give the heel Rocky his first ever win at Mania over the rattlesnake. Goldberg/Rock would IMO be something that maybe down the road after Rock returns from his next film and maybe turns face again. Besides with GB's lack of exposure for the past few years and his already unpolished mic skills, A Rock/Goldberg feud would look alot like the Booker/Rock feud at the beggining of the Invasion, that while it had its highlights, hindered Bookers impact due to the fact that Rocky made him look like his bitch on the mic. Goldberg, I believe has much untapped potential that WCW never reached in his short career because he was always the bad-ass monster babyface who was given too much too fast.Austin/Golberg sets up an interesting first feud for GB and will give Austin a legitimate talent to work with instead of jobbing out to 3MW or Chris Nowinski or some undesereving guy like that. I understand Goldberg ain't the most popular figure in the IWC these days, hell he never was, but lets please try to be objective and give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and if he sucks a few months from now, team em' with Steiner vs. HHH and Flair in a retirement match... my god who would the IWC want to win that match...indeed.

Funny, I rarely remember anyone discussing Rock/Goldberg until a few months ago. The "Dream Match" is and always has been Austin/Goldberg.

Oh, and enough with the "Goldberg took out Bret" stuff. It's not like he made a habit of injuring guys, unlike others (RVD), who seem to get a free pass.

RVD delivered a few busted lips. Goldberg gave Hart a massive concussion. I'd say there's more than a "free pass" at work.

Hart was major banged-up before taking that kick, and besides, a concussion does not end your career, no matter how massive it is. Bret milked the injury for the twelve months following it, then used it as an excuse to retire. I mean, I'm not blaming him for doing so, considering the state that WCW was in, but it's really not fair to continually spout off about "Goldberg ending Bret's career". Besides, it was ONE error. Did D'Lo deserve to be shunted down the card and fired for accidentally breaking Droz's neck? Did Owen Hart deserve to lose his main event slot because he accidentally dropped Austin square on his head?

Well maybe to the general public the dream match is Austin/Goldberg but I don't really care for it. Rock/Goldberg is a little bit more interesting just because the Rock is so entertaining right now. But Jericho needs to continue his feud and his undefeated record against Goldberg.

If the choice were between Rock or Austin, I'd go with Rock on the basis that at least Rock can still wrestle, so the match itself might not suck.

However, I'd much prefer to see Goldberg wrestle Jericho or Undertaker. Or better yet, put him in a handicap match against Regal (when he's healthy again) and Storm. If Regal alone could embarass Goldberg, the two of them combined could make him weep like a little girl.

I'd say Austin/Hogan is more of my personal dream match. Unfortunately, they really should have done it last year when both were a little more mobile.

I'd put HBK/Rock as a close second.

I wish they made chocolate Advent calendars for WrestleMania, although I'd skip the Mark Henry day.

Goldberg/Austin has probably been the dream money match historically but the way things stand I'd have him feud with Rock (provided he goes over at WM) in the lead up to Backlash.

Have Goldberg go over at Backlash cementing him as a credible threat in the mids of even the most casual fan while Rocky can go off to make his latest movie.

Have him go through another main eventer at the next ppv before taking the belt the month after that. Then once you've done all that have him feud with and ultimately drop the title cleanly (or as cleanly as a title fight can be) to Jericho around Summerslam thus creating a new young star.

The only reason people are talking about a Rock/Goldberg match is because that's what WWE wants them to be talking about. The Rock is the one that planted the seeds for the Rock/Goldberg match, because he needed an opponent for this year's WrestleMania and thought this would be the big money draw for him.

Of course, negotiations didn't go as smoothly as he had hoped, so he wound up wrestling Austin again and Goldberg is poised to come in either tonight or tomorrow.

The dream match was always Steve Austin vs Goldberg, simply because it has the better storyline. This is mainly due to the way Goldberg rose to the top of WCW's card in 1998, using Steve Austin's look, and was seen as WCW's "cheap imitation" of Austin.

There is no real story for Rock vs Goldberg, but WWE will make up some crappy story to make it look like that was always the match we wanted to see, despite what the fans really wanted.

I'm sure we'll get our Austin vs Goldberg match. It will just be a horrible mess.

Yeah, Rock is entertaining, but since when has Goldberg ever been?

RVD also rammed his knee into HHH throat at SS doing the 5-star frog splash off the elimination chamber. Since it seems 90% of the people here hate HHH, that gets ignored or chalked up to, as Scooter Keith would say, "Karma".

Its not like they are not going to do Austin/Goldberg ever. Goldberg is here for 100 days or such. I'm sure they will milk it for everything they have like Hogan's return where he faced Rock, HHH and Angle, all dream matches. Austin was left out, because Austin wasn't there and if Austin does go to Smackdown then automatic Hogan/Austin fued. He will face Goldberg at Judgement Day or Bad Blood, but he is better suited for Smackdown since they are the walking wounded right now. Austin/Benoit and Austin/Lesnar are too good not to go down.

I think Rock will turn face by the end of Mania, because he is so over right now and the fans will boo Goldberg out of the building. It will be interesting to see if Nash makes an apperance as well on that show. You could have Nash and Goldberg part of the Bischoff Administration thus having them fued with Booker T, Austin, RVD, Kane and the good amount of faces on Raw. Even though the faces will all be held down by HHH even though he has beaten them all expect Austin. If Austin gets a title shot after a month even I a huge Austin mark will be pissed. Booker T can have fresh matches with Jericho, Stiener, Nash, Goldberg and maybe even Nowenski if they decided to push him. There are ton of possiblities right now with how to use Goldberg unfortuantly, Vince will pick the worst one.

A Fan- I was there when RVD crushed HHH's neck, it was because of two factors, 1. the elemination chamber's roof was too small to try that stunt 2. HHH was in the wrong position and RVD did his best to compensate. 3. Karma

Milked the injury? THERE'S A HOLE IN HIS BRAIN! He suffered a major concussion against Goldberg and several more when WCW doctors let him wrestle Nash and Terry Funk in a Hardcore match.

The doctors told him if he had one more concussion, he'd have permanent brain damage. He was on Off The Record months later to announce his retirement and he was slurring his words still and could hardly string sentences together. I'm sure he was just milking it, though.

Low and behold, he got tossed off his bike and had a stroke, which doctors believe was a result of his weakened state due to those concussions.

I don't blame Goldberg for making a mistake, he was green and it happens but what was disturbing was that Bret said Goldberg never called him or anything to find out how he was doing, to check up on him or to apologize.

I am one of the few and the pround that believes Bill could have an outstanding couple of years with WWE. I think the key to his success would be wrestling as a heel eventually. We all know he isn't a Jericho or a Rocky on the mic, but if you paired him up with Heyman or Bichoff as a manager he could really strive. As far as dream matches go, I would not be surprised if WWE is really serious about bringing back the Diesel gimmick for Kevin Nash if Goldberg matched up with Diesel because Nash was the first to beat Goldberg and end his winning streak in WCW.

Goldberg had made something of a habit of hurting opponents before the Hart kick, though. He broke a lot of ribs because he refused to learn how to do a simple move like the spear properly. We didn't hear much of a fuss about it because most of the injuries he caused were on lower-profile jobber types. He didn't get the nickname "careless" by dropping his silverware at the dinner table.

Exactly. You've just described how the WWE books 90% of their feuds.

You know what I mean. Austin's popularity exploded, and then, suddenly WCW had someone they pushed to the moon that looked more than a little like Stone Cold.
