Yesterday, the Padres picked up the greatest .271 hitter with 9 career home runs in the history of major league baseball. A man, who if not for the Red Sox constantly making a mockery of his career, would already have his space in Cooperstown reserved next to the greats of the game. Yes, the Padres have acquired Lou Merloni, the man who will make the Padre fans forget about Winfield and Gwynn. And, as Lou will tell you every 3 sentences, he's from Framingham. Now, the question facing all Red Sox fans after this tragic news about Lou leaving (this was the top sports story in New England, and in some places, was more widely covered than the war) is: Who will carry Nomar's bags on the road? Oh yeah, just in case anyone forgot, Lou's from Framingham. Gee, can you tell how much I'll miss him?

Sarcasm will get you everywhere, RSN.

The Padres are still on the cheap, so picking up Merloni is the only thing they could do to get a utility IF. Kevin Towers has wanted Merloni for a while.

Being cheap sucks.

Wait, since when does Lou wait until May to bitch? The classic of course was in '99 when he got sent down 3 games into the season for this nobody Brian Daubach, who was not from Framingham. All Daubach did was hit 20 home runs a year for 4 years with over 70 RBI's. But, he wasn't from Framingham, so Daubach being called up to replace Lou helped to turn his career into a mockery.
Of course now, if Lou gets sent down 45 minutes, he gets to go to Tiajuana instead of Pawtucket. On the plus side, Tiajuana has more Americans than Pawtucket does.

Hey, I was born in Framingham! (25 years ago today, in fact). And we're all proud of Lou!

For leaving Framingham. It's harder to do than it looks.

Of course, I never lived anywhere near there. Just the birth and the occasional jaunt to Shopper's World. Ah, memories...

Aw man... quit hatin' (to borrow a term) on Lou. He was a loveable bastard, and with him gone, that's one less thing to yell at Sox games.

Incidentally, the Massachusetts Emergency Managemant Agency maintains a bunker near route 9 in Framingham.
