Oh and none of them work house shows either. While a guy who's young and very popular curtain jerks on Heat. Reminds me of that other company that used to be around...

It's also the end of years of storyline for those guys. Honestly, why not use the guys while you have the chance?Get all the buys you can out of Rock, Austin and Hogan before they set sail for retirement (or movies).

And besides, isn't this going to be the last Heat on MTV, anyway?

Unless my memory is really fading, isn't RVD's contract up very shortly, and hasn't he in the past stated he wouldn't be re-upping? Perhaps thats a reason why he's jerking the curtain.

Yes. They'll probably mention it once, with about 10 minutes to go in the program

I think RVD's contract is until the summer of 2004.

If RVD's contract was up soon, I'd actually hope for him to get out of WWE, and go to either TNA or Japan. Somewhere that he might actually be appreciated.

Oh, and I would also buy every TNA PPV every week if RVD went to that promotion.

Oh yes! Because it worked so well for ECW.

That is one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever heard. RVD has had a LOT more exposure in the WWE now and many more people know who he is now. Comparing how he drew back then and how he'd draw now is a HYOOOOGE stretch.

I'm not saying that RVD would shoot TNA up to WWE level. But, he would help that promotion A LOT, and would get them much bigger buyrates.

Saying RVD can't draw because he didn't in ECW is pretty baseless. Did Mick Foley draw in ECW? Did Steve Austin draw in WCW or ECW? I guess Chris Jericho never should have gotten an opportunity in WWF because he was just a non drawing WCW TV Champ.

Good news: this match will *most likely* be on the Wrestlemania XIX DVD, so at the most you will only have to wait until May/June.

    That's right.

I can't believe how you're all WHINING about this. Which appearance do you think would get Rob van Dam seen by more viewers - a match on the free Heat or a match on the $39.95 WrestleMania?

Sorry if someone else has already mentioned it, but this isn't 100% true. From what I understand, they do get a cut on the ticket sales, but don't get in on the money made from the PPV itself.

Though not an RVD fan, I find it funny how the WWE once pushed Bradshaw to so so reactions and not RVD who the fans love. This being said I recall RVD winning what seems like 85% of his single matches on Raw in the past year and a half. They are getting him over and letting him hit his spots, so to say he is a jobber or that there is a burial conspiracy is way off base.
I feel bad for Y2J and Booker-T,way before I feel anything for RVD. The best arguement for RVD might be to compare him to Brock who got a big push while some think he is still green and hasn't "paid his dues",and who the fans also love. I think if he did go to NWA-TNA it would spike their buy-rate, and he could refued with Jerry Lynn which would be cool. I don't see WWE droping him anytime soon, and he will get his "push" in due time.

I'll have to side with the guys who think this is bullshit.

They have the cat-fighting shitty-beer girls on the show, but RVD and Kane (who is still over, despite the Katie Vick angle) are on Heat? I would argue that, of all the matches on the card, Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio would be the most apt curtain-jerker. I would prefer all of the current matches to be on the PPV, with someone like Hurricane on Heat, but RVD is a way bigger draw than Rey or Hardy, Kane is at least as popular, Morley gets a lot of TV time, and Storm just deserves a spot because he works hard.

Instead of giving deserving wrestlers a 10-minute slot on Wrestlemania, we get the cat-fight girls and Fred Durst. Could WWE say "We are 100% white trash" any louder or clearer?

I still think the reason that RVD/Kane are on Heat is to sway the "on the fence fans" who haven't decided to order the PPV yet. McMahon wants to maximize the buyrates. Wrestlemania, unlike any of the other 11 PPVs, draws the casual fan, including the guy who says, "I haven't watched in 6 months, but this card is stacked, so maybe I'll order it." If having a hot match on Heat can stimulate sales in any way, then it works for the WWE.

And trust me, after toiling for years in dumps, fairgrounds and bingo halls in front of 300 people, RVD has to be pleased to be part of the WWE. He gets paid every week and can count on the check being good (unlike all those years with Paul E). It's a given that he's extremely popular and should get a better push, but a combination of factors (which have been rehashed here ad naseum) have kept that from happening. There is a security that accompanies working for a major promotion: guaranteed pay, guaranteed dates and ancillary income. Why on earth would he leave all that to work for TNA? To get a shot at the title? I'm sure the bank that underwrites RVD's mortgage would love that.

NickBockwinkelFan's post got me thinking.

We always assume that RVD and other guys who aren't being pushed are being "held down," but do any of us know if they WANT to be main eventers or not? Just like actors who prefer to play quirky characters roles than be leading men/ladies, there must be wrestlers who prefer to be mid-carders. There's less pressure, less focus on you and more time to spend with your friends and loved ones. And hey! It still pays the rent!

We assume everyone want to be the champ, because to the viewers that's the best position. But for some performers, maybe it's more fun to be in a tag team or work in one of the gimmicky mid-card matches.

Just a thought I had. I of course have no proof on how any actual wrestlers feel about this.

I have to capitulate that some wrestlers would probably want to have less pressure and be mid-carders, but that is not the issue.

Regardless of card placement desire, the desire to get a bigger WM paycheck versus a Heat check is one that most EVERY wrestler would want. If this is true, then four wrestlers are getting screwed.

And the storyline about RVD/Kane getting the tag titles is a long running storyline (well, long in the WWE canon...3 months). They have been screwed by Chief Morely for a while, so I think the storyline is strong enough to garner a spot on the WM show. Besides, there are only two men's titles on Raw, so why not emphasize these tag belts?

Call me an RVD mark if you wish, but he gets the fans on their feet and cheering. It isn't just the RVD chants that get most of us to believe that he is the most over face. It is the CONSTANT cheering that he gets and the reaction he gets just from his name being mentioned that does it for me. Hell, he has brought Kane back up in face standing and reaction just from tagging with him.

And if I remember my WM history right, he took Regal to a good-great match last year...IN THE CURTAIN JERKER. So I don't like RVD gettingly seemingly shunted in favor of less interesting characters (A-Train, Team Angle) and less interesting matchups (Women's title, Rap Battle).

The Hurricane main eventing a Raw show? See, the WWE is listening to the 'Net. Well, they're listening to me anyways. Look for the next push to go to Molly.

Everybody is overlooking a very important factor in all of this - the TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH isn't at WRESTLEMANIA! I mean, come on, it's stupid to have one of their most important titles (regardless how you feel about it's 'value') not be on the biggest PPV of the year. That's the weirdest thing about it to me. It's more important to note the tag championship didn't get the cut, not RVD.

See, the worst thing about it is, they had a storyline set up for 2-3 months of one turning on the other for Wrestlemania. Why didn't they pull the trigger? It makes them look bad, where Kane chokeslams RVD "accidentally" and then right after they're working together as if nothing happened. RVD vs. Kane would fit perfectly into Wrestlemania; instead we're getting a meaningless Heat match, where there's no chance of a title change because it's on Heat. They can't announce to people who paid for the PPV partly for the tag match that, oh sorry you missed it, the belts changed hands, but you were watching the free-for-all, better luck next time.

Like, if you're going to push the team of RVD and Kane, PUSH them! PPV, title changes, the works.

Bah, whatever.

What I'm looking forward to most is seeing this match announced as being on the Mania card later tonight. Then we can get to the more important task on Monday morning: Complaining about which match gets the last slot on the show.

i don't agree with this; at every bar i've gone to to watch a pay per view, everyone is there by 7:30 to watch the big final heat match on mtv, and all the tv's are showing that match before the ppv comes on. so, i think it's safe to say that most people will see the match.

which is not to say that i agree with one of the TWO raw titles being left off of the wrestlemania ppv. doesn't make any sense at all.

My reaction is somewhere between feh and hmmmm. I honestly amn't that bothered.

Do I think RVD as an individual has done more than some who are on the card to deserve a spot? Yes

Do I think he's more over than some of the people on the WM card? Again yes.

However I don't believe he's capable of becoming a long term main event level star and I DONT think hes one of the most over people on the roster.

The crowd pops for the pointy thing and the ***** and thats about it. They're pretty much not into his matches these days.

His match at NWO (which is essentialy the same as that at WM save for Regal being injured) was the worst on the card IMO (and that includes a Steiner match).

I seem to remember Jeb did a column about RVD (think the title had something to do with RVD having the charisma of a cinder block) in which he pretty much said what I thought about his ring work, but much more eloquently. If I knew how to linkify I would, cos he deserves the props, but alas I do not.

Furthermore, RVD has not once been able to 'tell a story' in a manner that has got me gripped. His promos are laid back to the point of horizontal. If he doesnt care about his fights, why the heck should I be interested?

Bottom line is that yeah, I'd probably sooner have him on my telly than Big Show, but that ain't gonna happen. And to be quite honest I'm not gonna shed any tears over it.

Ok, i guess I'll throw my two cents in. Why oh why would RVD be left off the card? I'll tell you why.

1. Rock vs. Austin - come on! the two biggest guys in the business going head to head.
2. Hogan vs. Vince - maybe RVD is really over but have you heard Hogan's reactions? Way bigger than RVD. Whether you think Vince isn't a wrestler doesn't matter, whether you think Hogan is a cripple doesn't matter, people actually want to see Hogan get his revenge on Vince
3. Angle vs. Lesnar - dream matchup and World Title match
4. Triple H vs. Booker T - the other Title match
5. HBK vs. Chris Jericho - this is a dream matchup of past vs. present stars

If you think RVD is more important than any of these then you are hugely mistaken.

As for the rest of the card...
6. Los Guerreros vs. Benoit/Rhyno vs. Team Angle - not only are these tag titles worth more but the match also has potential to be the best match of the night
7. Mysterio vs. Matt - another show stealer
8. Trish vs. Jazz vs. Victoria - have to have women's title match.
9. Taker/Jones vs. Big Show/A-Train - ok so maybe this one can go but there ARE stil Undertaker fans, and you have to have the all important break match somewhere. But it atleast has had some buildup.

SO why should RVD's match be ahead of any of those. I don't think it should and Lance Storm is my favorite wrestler. This match has not had any buildup at all and as Morley said on Raw "we've only been tag champs for a minute". This match is not as important as anything else on the card.

The WWE just can't seem to please you, i mean come on! Look at the card! You got Booker T who you all love so much getting a shot at the WORLD TITLE. You have a wrestling classic in Lesnar vs. Angle match. You have a dream match of Jericho vs. HBK. YOu have the three best tag teams in the WWE wrestling each other. So maybe RVD shold belong on the ppv. But so do Eddie, Benoit, Matt Hardy, Rhyno, Trish, Jazz, Victoria, Undertaker, Booker. THere's just not room for an unimportant match like RVD's.

And who cares if it's not on the card, you can STILL watch the match on Heat for FREE. So stop complaining.
