Burk renews call for CBS to cancel Masters telecast NEW YORK (AP) — Martha Burk plans to expand her campaign against Augusta National and CBS by contending that televising the event from an all-male golf club "is an insult to the nearly quarter million women in the U.S. armed forces."
Burk, chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, plans to protest the club's membership policy during the third round of the Masters on April 12 at Augusta, Ga.
Along with New York City council member Gale A. Brewer, Burk scheduled a news conference Wednesday to ask CBS to cancel its Masters coverage.
Burk's remarks Tuesday came as U.S. troops moved closer to Baghdad in the war against Iraq.
"Broadcasting The Masters now and showcasing a club that discriminates against women is an insult to the nearly quarter million women in the U.S. armed forces," Burk said. "CBS should honor its license to operate in the public interest by refusing to make segregation seem acceptable."

Someone needs to remind this woman that Augusta National is a PRIVATE CLUB. Private clubs are allowed to include and exclude people as they see fit. I don't see any men bitching about not being able to get into women's only clubs.

Forget that! There are women-only medical facilities. Is there anything wrong with that? Hell no!
NEWSFLASH: Men and women are different in physiology and (generally) personality/social habits. Unlike skin color, which has no bearing on anything other than appearance, gender actually is the root of many differences between individuals. It's okay for men and women to set aside a place where they can be with one another without the influence of the opposite sex!
This is differenct than gender discrimination, in which an individual is owed something which he/she has a right to or has earned (eg in the workplace), but is being denied on the basis of gender.
By the way, does this constitute "hateful blacklisting" of Augusta by this crazy chick, or is this "boycotting"?
Not to mention all of the "Women only" health clubs. But that is OK, because all men are sexist pigs. I can't believe that anyone takes this woman seriously enough to follow her- especially in light of some of her past political stances.
Ugg. This is almost up there with the hippy activists that demanded donkeys be saved from involvement in suicide bombings as far as idiots trying to use an unrelated high profile event for their own ends goes.
Its a PRIVATE FUCKING CLUB for gods sakes. If those in charge feel their ends are better suited by the exclusion of women, so be it. Thats capitalism baby.
Besides, any organisation which saves half the population of the world from the torture of playing golf should be applauded by all ;)

Next thing you know this dumb bitch is gonna want to start VOTEING or something.
(JOKE! No ban please!)
Ok, really. It's JUST Golf. What's her problem, did they not let her play or something? Does she even play, that's a good question. There are 'special things' set aside for JUST women, hospitals, spas, health clubs, shoe stores; what else do they need, right? If they want everything to be all inclusive, I don't see her bitching for unisex restrooms.

I am actually hoping some of the "pink names" from the Ladies Forum come in here and weigh in on this one... I would be interested in hearing that perspective...
She's killing me... absolutely killing me. Today, she said she wonders how the women fighting in Iraq feel about this. I'm sure they're out there thinking, "Gee, these Iraqis are shooting at me, but dammit, what's with Augusta National not letting us in."

Maybe this is just me, but I would think that if you were worth that much money, you would have an accountant or something that would take CARE of something like that. Isn't that their job? Yes, it is bad, but nothing to disqualify a candidate over.
