I know I wouldn't be too comfortable sleeping in a tent next to a guy who changed his name to Akbar.

They need to bring this guy over from Germany so he can get the death penalty.

If he is found guilty, he hangs. I can't wait for the psycho-babble about how he was a confused soul etc. to start in order to keep him from getting his just punishment.

The bastard's CO actually has the authority to execute him, but that's highly unlikely.

The UCMJ allows execution for any such offeses. As long as he remains on US military soil and is tried by a military jury, he can get the death penalty.

Does it really have to be a military court that executes him? I am not sure, but this is a pretty clear case of treason... I think that can be prosecuted by civil courts..

I'm not sure what civilian court would have jurisdiction. It was in an American military installation, thereofre the right of first refusal should go to the military. Plus, UCMJ penalties are much stricter than civilian penalties and, frankly, are more likely to convict this clown than a civilian jury.
