Today's Star Ledger (www.nj.com) reports that Glen Sather will leave it up to Eric Lindros as to whether he will play in the Olympics. He says that he can't deny a player the opportunity or honor to play for their country. As a NYR fan, I disagree - but as a fan of hockey in general, I agree wholeheartedly - you want the best at the Olympics to showcase the sport.

I am really looking forward to seeing the US Women play too

Damn skippy he's gonna play!

Anticipation up here is reaching a fever pitch, I can't even describe it. Canada wants their gold medal back, and this could be the year. Oh man, I hope so....

I would almost think that Joe Thornton would be a better play right now for Canada than Lindros would be.

I think if Eric's on his game he'll be better than Thornton...we'll just have to wait and see.

Also interesting that Gretzky is keeping an eye on Fleury..
I can imagine his concerns..you don't want that little man to snap during the olympics and destroy the entire russian team just because they mentioned the word Vodka when he skates past their bench..

It's scary that there's like maybe ONE goal seperating about 6 teams in this.

Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?

A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"

I'd be keeping one eye on Yzerman and his bum knee too...

There could be a couple of different opportunities to get Thornton in the line up...

He certainly deserves it.

Now, if only one of the Goalies would get hurt so we could substitute in J. Theodore, the hottest in the league right now.

Yeah but BOTH Yzerman and Nolan (who apperently has been having back problems) have said that if they aren't 100% they'll let Gretzky know ASAP next week.

Also Russia (and the Maple Leafs) recieved a huge blow last night. Dmitry Yushkevich, the best defencman on both teams has blood clot in his leg and is out indefenetly (TSN JUST said at least 3 weeks), possibly the whole season. The Russian's have yet to release the name of the replacement.

Man, that's such a huge blow to the Leafs (and Russia) if he's out for the season. He's such a dependable defenseman. Quinn will HAVE to make a big move at the trade deadline now.

Russia lost their one of their top D-men (I wouldn't say he's better than, say, Sergei Zubov), but I don't think it'll be much of a factor. The Russians really shouldn't fret that much. I mean, Khabibulin is used to facing 30-40 shots a night-he plays on Tampa Bay, who has one of the worst defenses in the league. So I wouldn't expect Russia to suddenly start giving up many goals, just a few more shots per game. Still, it is a blow to the team since Yushkevich is a talented player.

Oh, and I think Joe Thornton will get to play for Canada. I just feel like SOMETHING bad is going to happen to either Yzerman or Fleury, and then Thornton can easily step in. Of course, if Thornton doesn't play in 2002, you can bet on him playing in 2006.

(EDIT: I forgot to mention Thornton, sorry.)

Have y'all been watching this Olympic hockey? It's great- and it's only the preliminary round! I haven't missed a game yet. Right now Latvia and Slovakia are tied in a twelve goal shootout...

When will the NHL eliminate the centerline? Those neutral zone passes equal breakaways which equal EXCITING GAMES!

Did he steal some weather-control equipment off the Enterprise? Because that's pretty much the only way that's going to work. I mean, I'd like to see it, too, but I'm thinking it's going to be a long time before it's remotely feasible.
