As I saw it put so well on www.fanball.com , the Padres acquired RonDL White for Bubba Trammel and pitching prospect Mark Phillips. Probably the best news coming of this is that it frees up a spot in the Outfield for Xavier Nady, who I guess is now slated to start in right.

I don't know how I feel about this yet. On the one hand, it's not Raul Mondesi, resident malcontent. On the other hand, it's the oft injured Rondell White. What I do know is Nady is not moving to RF. White will probably end up there instead. I just hope the 4th and 5th OF's are ready to play when White goes down.

I would have rather seen Mondesi go, but WTF do the Yanks want with Bubba Trammel? RonDL was healthy and looking good at the plate so far, but I guess with Mondesi, Juan Rivera, Nick the Stick, and Zeile, how many AB's could they give him? Is Bubba going to be the ball-boy or something? Makes no sense to me, unless he is headed somewhere else now...

Apparently, Bubba will be the DH against left handed pitching. The Padres moved X Nady to RF and will play White in LF, contrary to my stupidity above According to the UT, the Padres are going to use the money freed up from the trade to lure either Miguel Tejada or Japanese shortstop Kazuo Matsui of the Seibu Lions, both of whom will be free agents at the end of 2003.

Got my email inviting me to return, so now's as good a time as any: I officially announce my retirement from fantasy baseball. I don't watch the sport, so there's no point. I'll be back for the fantasy football league, though.
