Present Day.

Present Time.

Hahahahaha*Ahemcoughahem*

So I just got done watching the series last week. These are my randomly arranged thoughts, if anyone cares.

The Wired connects the world to other worlds while connecting our world. Imagine a straw that has holes poked in it, stuck in a glass. It both helps the fluid (information) flow in the glass and out.

The alien technology is what enabled Lain's body to be made. The guy paying the MIB was the American Government only wanted to see what was going to happen. He may have put ideas in Eiri's head.

The last time Lain meets her father, it's not her real father but God. I'm not sure if Lain is the Female Internet Jesus, but it makes sense.

The KNIGHTS tried to recreate project KIDS, which brought attention to Eiri and exposed him. That's why he lead Lain to revealing them and getting them all killed.

Now if someone could help me understand how the DJ and tall MIB guy are identical, that would be swell.

This has got to be the weirdest Chasey Lain movie I've ever heard of. Is she at least hot?

(Yes, I know)

It's been a while since I watched the series, so I should probably refresh my memory a little since I've forgotten a lot of it. It confused the hell out of me the first time through.

What was the question again?

I think the question you are asking is MIB guys and the DJ the same? If so, then the answer is no. The DJ is just a normal guy like the mailman. They are just there to move the plot along.

The series is hella confusing and its meant to be fairly open ended. It really is up to the viewer to determine what really happens at the end. I came to the conclusion that GOD was a human creator rather than the BIG GUY. The one episode that blew my mind was the history of the alien tchnology through very probably and real source material. It made me really think.

A Fan- Good show, but damn confusing.

There's a scene (when Laiun is first dealing with the idea of multiple hers) where Lain sees a vision of the DJ and the MIB guy and realizes they're the same, or something like that. If MIB guy had nothing to do multiple Lains, and DJ was obviously connected to the leaving memories of another Lain (like Taro) than WHAT? Am I the only person who thinks those two look alike?

And the mailman deserved more screen time. He ruled.

Lain joined something that looked like Dad up in the clouds, which is why I think she went to God's side. I think. HEADACHE.

Hey A Fan, do you think the MIB's boss was the human creator?

My girlfriend is a massive fan of this series, I'll see if I can drag her to this thread, or ask for some of those fan theory links she has.

Is this a new movie or something, because I don't remember the DJ/MIB thing. I do think there two human creators. One was the evil thing that Lain fought at the end. I think that was a human creator even a person who got caught up in the web and eventually took command of some it. I'd lay money it was the scientist who was in control of the kiddie experiments. The human good God was probably the scientist who was murdered on the train tracks.

I got the sense both of the dead scientist was the creator of all Lain at least and was using her and the others to fight the other evil scientist in the wired. I believe both guys put their essence into the wired thus creating the many worlds and characters you see like Dark Lain. Both used those creations to fight against each other. When they hit the restart button I sensed that Lain created another wired where everyone was happy, it was her reward for taking out the evil scientist.

A Fan- just a theory of course

Ok, here's how I broke it down. The newest Wired (version 7, I think) had the personality of its creator incorporated into it. He did this in order to make himself God, and he's what Lain fights at the end. His idea was to create a massive connected subconsious for all mankind. Lain was created to bridge the gap between the subconsious (the Wired)and reality. In the end, though, Lain has to explain to him that the subconsious has existed long before the Wired, and that he's not God. She then tricks him into taking himself out of the Wired, making him vulnerable. Lain then fixes things so that it's like she never was, keeping the subconsious and reality separate.

Okay.
I have been dragged to this thread by A Fan because I am big-huge-drooling fanboy of this series. So here's my take.

Lain is the embodiment of the human subsonciousness (or possibly Gaia herself) that was brought into human form when Eri instituted Protocol 7. Eri was not expecting this and manipulated the fake Tachibana labs and the MIBs to set up the fake family for her. It was his intention to control Lain and use her power to augment his own, but she got too powerful too fast. The DJ has no relationship to the MIBs, one of the big clues to this is his absolute disbelief that there is no other Lain other than the Party girl Lain that exists in Cyberia.

The Knights are also being manipulated by Eri, but not to the extent that the MIBs are. The have been looking for the God of the Wired and Eri convinced them that he was it, and not Lain. They try to attack lain (The bomb, Taro's chip, the fake Lain in Cyberia) because the believe that Lain is a threat to their God (Eri)

In the end, Lain shows Eri that he is not God, just a pretender, a placeholder until the real God (Lain) comes. Lain accepts her duty then as the Goddess of the Wired.

A good website to read various theories on Lain is

Robbie didn't even write the song. It was his mate Guy Chambers, who has fallen out with (and, shockingly, his output is now terrible). If you like his stuff and have not heard it, try and find "Angels". He should not be in the top 100.
