With the addition of Chris Osgood and Kirk Camerons brother in law, the blues seem to think they have made big progress in getting a stanley cup. The Cyotes wanted a player and 3 first rounders for Sean Burke, so the blues went with the "next best thing". Anybody think this will really help them at all?

Well now they have a decent goalie, who has playoff experience under his belt. So, it can't hurt.

I don't understand this whole infatuation with Sean Burke. He has never done anything in his career. Sure, he's had a couple of decent seasons with the Coyotes but why do people think this guy is a playoff goalie? When's the last time he won a playoff series by himself? When he was with New Jersey 10+ years ago? Doesn't anyone remember that this guy was begging for work two years ago? Burke might have been an upgrade over the goalie by committee thing they had going in STL but he's not even in the top 10 as far as NHL goalies go.

I'd put Roy, Brodeur, Belfour, Khabibulin, Nabokov, Turco, Joseph, Theodore, Denis and Giguere in front of him.

Hell, he let in 5 goals in an Olympic game against freaking Germany.

As for Osgood, he's an upgrade but he's still going to get lit up by Colorado, as always, once the playoffs start.

We'll just pretend those string of shutouts by Johnson didn't actually happen last year in the playoffs.

Yes, the shutouts were awesome last year, but this year, Johnson has not shown he has what it takes to win. Not to say he can't win, but it just seems he isn't ready at this stage in his career to take the Blues to the Cup.

Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball.
Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

I think Dan Cloutier deserves to be in there somewhere. He's been better than Joseph, Nabokov and Theodore this year, and he's always better than Denis.

I'll have to disagree with you. Cloutier has never been better than Denis. Just think back to the world junior hockey championships. Cloutier backed up Jamey Store. Denis was the man in goal when Canada won its 5th straight gold. Denis was also voted the number one goalie of the tournament.

Denis has been awesome this season for a very poor Columbus team. I have no doubt that if Cloutier were playing for Columbus, he'd crumble under the pressure.

He's never shown that he could handle being the go to guy when it counts. I'm sure that Vancouver will get into the second round based on talent alone and when they do, we'll find out how good Cloutier really is when he goes up against Detroit again.

When I put up my top 10, I was thinking of playing under pressure and Theodore, Joseph and Nabokov have all proved they can handle it. Cloutier was pathetic after that Lidstrom goal. I have nothing against him. If he can rebound this year against Detroit I'll gladly say that he belongs in the top 10.

Back to the point.

The Blues went out to get a goalie to help their team. There wasn't much on the market... Osgood and Burke. Neither guy is in the top ten (obviously) but burke seemed higher on their list. With the Star Players being hurt every other game (damn it seems like it) the blues couldn't afford to give up much. So as a result they went after the best option.

Osgood will fight out Johnson for the number 1 goalie spot. Its still almost a goalie by committtee. My hope is someone steps up... and pronger comes back by playoffs (hes on a faster pace than expected i believe)

I still think the blues wasted a great chance to sign Byron Defoe early in the year. He is a solid Goalie and when he is hot can carry a team by himself.

The main difference between Sean Burke and Chris Osgood? Osgood's name is engraved on Lord Stanley's Cup.

I've been reading this on other hockey forums and sports site. Such a tragedy and just in shock. What a bad summer for hockey. There have been 8 players/coaches identified or confirmed to have been killed in the crash:
