DARK MATCH???:
*Chris Kanyon VS SHARKBOY~!!!
Okay, let's start with the Big News - Chris Kanyon has a new valet... And she is... Wait for it... Jackie Gayda. Ugh. The match made up for her, however. I think the Pittsburgh crowd may have gotten Shark-Boy a job. He was *massively* over in this match, and the running gag throughout the night was to chant "We Want Sharkboy" whenever the show hit a lull. Listen for it during Shannon Moore's match on Velocity or during the Matt Hardy segment on Smackdown if they don't edit it out. Kanyon won, and both guys looked hella-awesome. I wouldn't be shocked to find this match edited into Velocity in place of one of the lesser matches actually taped for the show.

MAYBE A DARK MATCH, MAYBE VELOCITY, WHO THE HELL KNOWS:
*Johnny Stamboli VS FUNAKI~!!!
Funaki was... less over. Oh well. I wore my Kaientai EVIL shirt with pride, let me tell you. The match wasn't great, but Sho worked his ass off. Stamboli, unsuprisingly, picked up the win after interference from the FBI.

MOST CERTAINLY VELOCITY NOW:
*Tajiri VS Jamie Noble
Worth tuning into Velocity for. One of the better Noble matches I've seen in the WWE, combined with an all-too-rare Tajiri win.

*Nathan Jones VS Jobber Du Joir.
Nathan isn't as bad as people say. He's by no means great, but this was more entertaining than anything I've seen Scott Steiner do so far in his run. I'll give him this - he's strong as a horse and threw the jobber, who was a decent sized guy, no cruiserweight at least, around like a rag doll. I don't know well he's gonna do when he's got to go longer than four minutes and sell some offense, though.

*Shannon Moore VS Jobber Numero Dos
Shockingly dull. Shannon wins. Shark-boy gets over.

*Bill DeMott VS Yet Another Jobber
Honestly, who gives a rat's ass? Really? No, you don't. Shut up.

SCHMACKDOWN!!!!
*Team Angle VS Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman.
A decent match, but not quite as good as I was expecting. I read in another thread that Kidman turns heel in this match, but I swear I must've blinked or something because I missed it. Exciting whenever Rey was in the match; dull when he wasn't. Team Angle pulls off the win, after a few false finishes with the 619 and the Shooting Star Press.

*Backstage
Stephanie McMahon gets a visit from Brian Kendrick, who brings her flowers, says he flew in from Seattle to see Angle's match tonight, and tries to coax Wrestlemania tickets out of her.

*Jamie Noble knocks on the door of the Playboy mansion and... nothing happens.

*Rikishi VS Chuck Palumbo.
The FBI tries to interfere, Los Guerreros run out to stop them, Rikishi gets the butt-splash for the win.

*The Big Show and Albert VS Tajiri and Funaki.
Guess who wins? Just a squash, as Show spends most of the match doing color commentary. Before the match, they announce that Wrestlemania's Pissbreak Special will be Taker/Jones V. Show/Albert. Well, they've gotta sell concessions sometime.

*The Playboy Cover Unveiling...
And it's... A PLAYBOY COVER! Like every other Playboy cover! I can't wait to read that Billy Bob Thorton interview.

*Shawn O'Haire convinces Dawn Marie flashes the crowd.
A last ditch effort to sell the Girls Gone Wild PPV. I heard she really did, but damned if I wasn't on the wrong side of the arena to know for sure.

*John Cena kicks it old school, yo.
He's going to beat Brock more than a masturbation festival.

*Chris Benoit and Rhyno VS Los Guerreros.
The winners get a title shot at Wrestlemania, leading me to cheer wildly for the Guerreros to leave Benoit open for something more important. Starts out slow, but builds to a fevered pace. I have a feeling this'll cross a commercial break. Team Angle runs-in, causing a no-contest. STill, the best televised match of the night. (SHARK-BOY!)

*Stephanie confronts Team Angle backstage.
Tells them that at Wrestlemania, they'll fight both Los Guerreros and Benoit/Rhyno in a Triple Threat match. Throw a ladder in there, and you don't need anything else on the card.

*Hulk Hogan nostalgia package.
Done to "Real American". Very cool if you were ever a Hogan fan. Sadly, this was it for the Hulkster tonight.
*Vince McMahon interview.
McMahon replays a segment from the video a few times. It's from a Prime Time Wrestling special that aired right before Wrestlemania VIII, when Hogan was set to "retire" after fighting Sid. The whole show was a tribute to Hogan, featuring a sit-down interview between Hulk and McMahon (which I have on tape somewhere). At the end, Hogan thanks McMahon for his WWF run, and that's the segment McMahon keeps replaying. He calls it a historic piece of footage - the only time Hogan ever thanked McMahon for anything. He goes on to call Hogan an ingrate, and vows to destroy Hulkamania at Wrestlemania XIX. A better promo than I'm making it sound, I swear.

*Matt Hardy challenges any Cruiserweight to an exhibition match.
The crowd, of course, chants "We Want Shark-boy!", but it was not to be. A guy comes out in a generic luchadore mask with a large fake nose stuck to it. It's obviously Brian Kendrick, but it did fool the ten year old sitting behind me. (And, I'm willing to guess Michael Cole.) He's announced as The Pittsburgh Penguin, but Shark-Boy didn't need no cheap heat to get over. Another great match follows, and Kendrick actually wins via countout when Shannon Moore bails Matt Hardy out of the ring. Mysterio congratulates him after the match.

*A segment with Kurt Angle making fun of Pittsburgh airs, probably only the arena to keep the heat on the right guy leading into the main event. (Pittsburgher's love to cheer their hometown boys.) Kurt challenges the rest of Team Angle to name a sucess story to come out of Pittsburgh besides sports teams - and Mr. Rogers doesn't count because he's dead. That's low, Kurt.

The crowd chants "MIS! TER! ROG! ERS!"

*Kurt Angle VS Brock Lesnar.
Kurt enters first, still to a mixed reaction, never removing his red-hooded sweatshirt. (Shamma lamma ding dong) As we're all watching Brock enter, Kurt switches places with someone else hiding under the ring, dressed exactly like him, most likely Eric Angle with a shaved head. (I didn't notice this at the time.)

Brock immediately hits who-everyone-still-thinks-is-Kurt Angle with the F-5 about ten seconds into the match, and is about to go for the pin when Team Angle shows up again. As Brock chases them off, the real Kurt sneaks back into the ring in Eric's place, hits a small package on Brock and picks up the cheap win!!!

So, it looks like they've decided that, if Kurt's got one more match in him, they may as well do it at Wrestlemania. I can dig that, especially after all the hype it's gotten. Plus, it means at least three more weeks of Kurt Angle promos.

I'm not sure when the show ends, but the action didn't stop yet.

Brock grabs a mic and demands that Kurt return to the ring. A battered Paul Heyman instead leads Team Angle out in his place. Brock beats both of them down, but falls to Albert and the Big Show who came plodding right behind. (GUY IN CROWD: Come on, Shark-Boy, Brock NEEDS YOU!"). 'Taker instead makes the save, and Brock manages to hit the F-5 on Heyman a few more times. I have no idea how much, if any, of this will actually air this Thursday night.

BIGGEST POPS:
1 - Brock Lesnar
2 - Shark-Boy! Shark-Boy! SHARK-BOY!
3 - Hulk Hogan's video package
4 - Dawn Marie's tits
5 - Mr. Rogers

MOST HEEL HEAT:
1 - Vince McMahon
2 - Kurt Angle
3 - Team Angle
4 - Kanyon, oddly enough. Probably because he was first, stradled by Gayda and fighting SHARK-BOY!!!
5 - HHH during the WWF History video

Say it with me, Wieners: "What a SHOCKING SWERVE!!!"

Those who don't read spoilers are sure to be shocked this Thursday, just like many of us are shocked right now. I sure as hell didn't expect this, but now I'm scared. Yes, I'm happy Brock/Angle will still happen, but is this really worth it?

I say yes! Remember that five years ago, HBK performed at Wrestlemania with his back fucked over in a million places and his match turned out fine. I think Kurt will do just fine as long as Brock doesn't stiff him too hard with those belly-to-belly and German suplexes and as long as Brock spends most of the match (about 15 minutes worth) playing face-in-peril.

I know a lot of people will be scared that Kurt may be significantly shortening his career by still going at Wrestlemania, but let me pose this question.

Kurt's main-eventing his first Wrestlemania. Would YOU give that up if you were him?

Forget Brock! TRINITY is the Next Big Thing! Congrats to both Kid Kash and TRINITY~! on signing long-term deals with TNA!

You're right, HBK's match at Wrestlemania with a messed up back was a very good match. But remind me again, how soon after that did he wrestle again?

Plus, there is still no gurantee that Angle/Lesnar is a main event, both Rock/Austin and Hogan/McMahon could easily be the main event.

I don't want to sound like an asshole but it's time us wrestling fans look a long look in the mirror and realize just what the hell these guys are putting themselves through because of us.

Do you know what Shawn Michaels probably had to do to himself to get to the ring that night? Hell what he probably has to do to get in the ring NOW?

Edge said on Confidential the injury gave him dizzy spells and made him vomit. He couldn't turn his head, pick up a weight, nothing. Now think of what ungodly amounts of drugs that Kurt Angle probably has to take just to walk around without getting surgery, let a lone WORK A MATCH.

Sometimes it takes more guts to walk away from a monster payday and big time match when you're hurt...

I was there as well, equally pissed to be on the side of the arena NOT flashed by Dawn Marie.

I also loved how over Shark Boy was. People, OldFuzzy isn't exagerrating.....the crowd was chanting for Shark Boy all night long.

Angle was huge over all night long every time he appeared on the Titantron. So when they played the little clip of him ripping on Pgh, I didn't think it would do much to change the crowds reaction, UNTIL he said, "Name one success story that ever came out of Pittsburgh. Name one success story out of Pittsburgh and sports teams don't count, and Mr. Rogers doesn't count, he's dead."

He actually did manage to turn of good portion of his cheers to boos with that line. We Pittsburghers love Kurt Angle, but nobody, AND I MEAN NOBODY, fucks with Mr. Rogers and gets away with it.

Although I was dissappointed not seeing Kurt really wrestle in the main, the swerve was brilliantly done so I couldn't feel too bad knowing his medical condition. Also, I'd say a good 40-60% of the crowd knew about Angle's injury so they didn't seem to terribly upset either. Someone started spreading the news whule we are all standing out in line. In fact, the rumor before the show was that he was too injured to perform at all. Also, something that was never explained, Kurt had a HUGE shiner under his eye visible in his entrance to the arena. I expected there to be a story behind it but if there was one, it wasn't given to us in the crowd.

All in all, good show. Limited appearance by Taker, no real duds for matches, and a couple good ones by Rey/Team Angle, and Rhyno/Benoit and los Guerreos. ONly thing the audience seemed really dissappointed in was no appearance from Hogan.

You gotta hand it to Kurt Angle. He's gonna wrestle Lesnar at Mania, despite that neck injury. No wonder, he's my favorite wrestler at the moment.

Good to see Sean O'Haire back, even if it's with Dawn Marie.

They also aired some of that Hogan-McMahon interview during Wrestlemania VIII. That was a good interview.

In one of the other reports, it said that Paul Heyman was "resting" his injuries and was unable to attend Smackdown. I'm guessing that Smackdown will end with Lesnar shocked at losing to Angle.

At least it looks like they are doing the right thing and gettng Los Guerreros away from the Rikishi/FBI angle for Mania. Considering they trumpet themselves as the most watched English speaking show among Hispanic viewers, perhaps their finally realizing that making Los Guerreros look stupid is a bad idea. Plus, it means Eddie/Benoit at some point at Mania, which is virtually guaranteed to be great.
Bye-Bye Kanyon. Jackie Gayda is the kiss of death. About 3 weeks until Kanyon's first NWA-TNA appearance.
With Angle going over Lesnar like this, it still makes me question why they even bothered to give away the Mania main event, even in as screwy a fashion as this. All they had to do was continue the build they have been doing, and they would have been all set.
But, it means 2 extra weeks of Angle on the mic, so their is a bright side.

Does anybody know if Angle's injury has been reported by the WWE? I mean, I've only heard about it on the internet, and I keep hearing varrying degrees of severity. Is there any concrete info out there?

why is jackie the "kiss of death"? i mean, we know she's a horrible wrestler, but if the point is just to stand around and look hot, i think she would be pretty good at that. i'd only worry if they're trying to push him as a heel that putting him with a hot chick might counteract that.

Unless you stab him or something.

I'm thinking that Jackie was with Kanyon more as a tryout on how she was doing than any permanent arrangement. The second year on her option comes up in a couple months, so they've got to figure out if she's worth keeping around.

That's an awesome question. I'd laugh so hard if this si a huge swerve on the fans by the WWE, planting rumours. I haven't heard anything that dictates otherwise...

Professional wrestling is the only sport where participants are just thrown right into the audience, and no one in the crowd thinks anything unusual is happening.
