Last month, I put myself down to try a free issue of the Torch. I wasn't impressed. Most of the news they report can be found right on their website, and most of THAT was lifted from wwe.com. Whatever else is left are their long opinion pieces and roundtables commentaries on pay per views, and I learned after a few minutes of reading that I personally couldn't care less what Powell, Keller, Mitchell et all have to say. Nor am I interested in them teaching me what and how to think about wrestling. We all watch the same shows. My brain works just fine on its own.
I AM glad they finally stopped sending me their VIP emails. Those got really annoying too.
So in conclusion, I think that if you regularly check the Observer and Torch website for news, you pretty much get the gist of whatever they have to offer. Or you can pay cash money to get ALL they have to offer, but I'd say less is definitely more in the long run.
Keep with the Observer. The Torch has been in a downward spiral of quality for over a year now.
I have a special friend. He's the baby Jesus and I love him and...and...he don't give me no s**t and he don't f**k around and he's just the f**king coolest guy and I wanna say I love the baby Jesus.I can't say enough.I love the baby Jesus and I think...he's the best thing and he's really great when he shares his love for everbody. You know what I mean?I can't even see a manger without thinkin' about him,eh?I just love the Jesus.I've only been into him for a couple of hours though, but I'm really into him. --Bruce McCulloch
Give those choices, I'd keep the Observer (been a subscriber for more than a decade now).
I would also give a try to Alvarez' sheet. I got the sample package and do enjoy it, as there are usually LOL moments in every issue (often involving Bob Sapp).
"No one's ever done a movie about flowers before. So there are no guidelines." "What about "Flowers for Algernon"?" "Well, that's not about flowers. And it's not a movie." "Ok, I'm sorry, I never saw it." -- Adaptation
The Observer is (IMO) the best read around for pro-wrestling. The information put in there is incredible. I like the Torch, but it has nothing on Meltzer's sheet.
I would also like to agree with odessasteps and recommend Bryan Alverez' Figure Four Weekly Newsletter. HILARIOUS stuff. I guarantee that you will laugh like a madman each week when reading his Frank A. Gotch stuff. The price he asks for is pretty high (and they keep going up), but it's worth it.
You thought watching Thunder was bad? Raw is like watching Thunder in re-runs.
