Just a little note for the SNL nuts out there, Norm MacDonald is taking his Stan Hooper character/name over to Fox for a sitcom.
110402Lance Storm likes Frailty too! So go watch it. "I've sat up here and lied to America before Conan... Rollerball sucked." LL Cool J "Dude, they never see an oven. They're science that's soft!" Joss Whedon on Twinkies
Will Forte continues to impress me. I can't wait for him and Fred Armison to start getting more skits, and of course anytime Horatio is on, I'm happy. I'm still waiting for The Falconer to return, however. Even with Queen Latifah as the host I still found it mostly entertaining, and that wasn't something I thought she could pull out.
Two really good SNLs in a row, in a season that's had precious few.
I don't think I have to tell you how much I loved that Mr. Rogers tribute at the end. Very classy, athough that didn't look a thing like Trolley. I still remembered all the words to that song.
The opening felt more like the classic political sketches of old, probably just the return of Darrell Hammond's fantastic Clinton. Oh, who am I kidding? I just liked it because I had the idea to bust out Dan Ackroyd's Bob Dole for the line "Bill, you ignorant slut" as soon as they announced the Clinton/Dole segments on 60 Minutes. I love being ahead of the loop!
(And while his Dole really isn't as good as Norm McDonald's, neither compares to the Bob Dole from Conan O'Brien, so it don't matter. "How much Dole could a Bob Dole dole if a Bob Dole could dole Dole?")
That ham sketch was the kind I love - those Python-esque insane twists that pull a really terrible sketch into a work of art, man... The song was great, but when Chris Parnell started talking about how the sketch was written while drunk, ten minutes before the show went on the air, THAT, my friend, was awesome.
TV Funhouse was also great, and the first sketch in a long while that had the feel of a *real* SNL political sketch. And not only was that the real Spongebob, I think the real team animated him. Amy Poehler was the Powerpuff Girl, though. And, as cool as the cameos on the Christopher Walken episode were, you just can't compete with Spongebob and Grape Ape.
And I had never heard of Ms. Dynamite before last night, and she didn't suck as bad as I was assuming she would, so bonus points there.
And, yeah, the rapping baby thing sucked, but it still was better than Nia Vardalos.
"It's like you lost your keys in the garage, but you look for them in the living room because the light is better." -Bill Maher, on the impending war in Iraq
Did Amy get her teeth fixed? I haven't watched it in the last month or so. No matter. I adore her. I think she loves me too. She just doesn't know about it.
I thought the show was solid. I REALLY liked Latifah's monologue. It was the 2nd best of the season (the first being the episode with Brittany Murphy where the cast rapped to each other). Baby K is eh, but not terribly bad. I did like Queen Latifah as the jazz singer who put sexual innuendo in her songs.
* The skit about the slutty jazz singer just KILLED me....just hilarious. Nice to see Darrell bring back the Jack Perkins impression.
* I think I'd watch SNL if it was just Will Forte reading the phone book. The man's voice is just pure comedy.
One of the best shows of the season, right up there with John McCain and Nia Vardalos.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Rogers Clemens clucking all the while. Mike Scioscia's tragic illness made us smile. While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the barroom tile. We're talkin'... Softball. From Maine to San Diego. Talkin'... Softball. Mattingly and Canseco. Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw. Steve Sax and his run-in with the law. We're talkin' Homer... Ozzie and the Straw.
I'm disappointed with most of this season, though Queen did surprise me.
Am I the only one sticking around till 3am to catch the classic episodes? They're re-airing the 96-97 era, with all the awesomeness of Norm MacDonald's update and the origins of Craig & Ariana, the Joe Pesci Show (when the real Pesci and DeNiro appeared, I died of laughter) and the general awesomeness of Jim Breuer.
Knowing the circumstances, I don't think Mr. Rogers threatening a laundromat attendant with a gun is appropriate anymore. So you get this instead.
