OLEAN, N.Y. (AP) -- One day after St. Bonaventure players voted to boycott the remainder of the season, the school backed them and said the final two games would not be played.

The school was forced Monday to forfeit six Atlantic 10 conference wins for using an ineligible player. The Bonnies then voted to skip the rest of the season.

St. Bonaventure was scheduled to play at Massachusetts on Wednesday and at home against Dayton on Saturday.

The A-10 also barred the Bonnies from the conference's postseason tournament for using center Jamil Terrell, who failed to meet NCAA junior college transfer guidelines.

After the players voted, school administrators and coaches decided Tuesday to support them, school spokesman David Ferguson said.

With all the attention this has gotten, and the series of decisions that have taken place, (the players) just felt angry, frustrated and confused, and they just didn't have the enthusiasm or the motivation to concentrate on a game,'' Ferguson said.

-----------------

You have to love the school spirit in this. "When the going gets tough! Lets pack our bags on go to spring break". I guess they heard Test is going to be on GGW and want to get to Florida early.

This really is a front runner of most pathetic sports team story of the year

My question is, How do you recruit after doing something like this? These guys should all be ashamed. Im sure they feel it some kind of protest but who are they really hurting? They even have to pay out money to UMass for the lost game revenue. I dont understand the logic.

Well, under what circumstances was Terrell made ineligible?

If they studied their paper money for clues as to what their country was all about, they found, among a lot of other baroque trash, a picture of a truncated pyramid with a radiant eye on top of it, like this:

he needed a 2 year degree to be eligible, and he had a certificate in Welding, and trade degrees/certificates don't count...

Yup. Saw that later. I think this sums up everything I feel about the situation. (espn.go.com)

This really screwed up a lot of things. Thye had to restructure the A-10 tourney. They also have decided that UMass and Dayton only get the A-10 wins, not the overall wins. Plus, the wins and the forfeit wins don't count against the RPI. What a strange week in college b-ball, with Fresno State, Georgia, and the Bonnies all having these scandals.

After reading Wojo's article it's really hard to blame the kids for walking out on them. The President and van Breda Koff really stuck it to them to for accepting Terrell. After having their wins taken away from them and their postseason toruney taken away from them, I don't blame them for walking. But if I was them, I would've played anyway if only to make a point.

van Breda Koff should join Harrick in the "don't hire these guys under ANY circumstances" pile.

I could have told you that about Van Breda Kolff 4 years ago when Vandy fired him...he set our once competitive program so far back for years to come, that even a solid coach like Kevin Stallings couldn't overcome it...as evidenced by the 62 point raping by the Wildcats last night...

By the way, congrats DrewDeuce, Ffej, Russell and others...you guys are gonna bring home a championship.

I don't know about calling college students kids (not necessary quoting you Grimis but the ESPN article). But sure are acting like it. Sure it sucks for them, but taking your ball and high-tops and going to March Break is really weak.

You're right screw the coaches, F the administrators. But go out there and play for your classmates, play for you fans, and more importantly play for yourselves. Isn't the worth of every person what they do during adversity, well these guys failed miserably. And even if they are totally unprepared and distracted and get waxed in both the games at least you showed something... Kurt Angle would be so disappointed.

I'd like to see a job interview with one of the players in a couple of years

Job interviewer: "So what university did you go to?"
Bonnie Player: "St. Bonaventure"
Interviewer: "Years"
Bonnie: "2000 to 2004"
Interviewer: "And extra curricular activities you did on the school"
Bonnie: "I was in there basketball program"
Interviewer: "Humm St. Bonaventure basketball? Wait, the same basketball team the quit once adversity hits"
Bonnie: "Ummm well ummm yeah I guess"
Interviewer: "Well we'll get back to you."
Bonnie: I'm not getting this job I'm I"
Interviewer: "Na"

THe thing i thought was stupid that I heard a St Bonaventure senior on a radio show and they asked him about missing the last couple of games and he said that it's so horrible because he worked so hard to get here (he had to go to junior college first) and how he was not going to have senior day and it ruined his entire collegiate career. So i was thinking "why didn't you play then!?"

Actually, it turns out that it was the underclassmen who walked out on monday and went on their spring break. The seniors wanted to play.

Kentucky is playing well, but I hesitate to think a championship is in the bag. That's why the NCAA tournament is so awesome!! Anyone has a shot on any night. No best of seven long drawn out stuff. Better team on that night advances, loser goes home.

I assume we're having another Yahoo group tourney bracket again this year? I have to embarass my basketball "knowledge" amongst all you weiners yet again this year.

I have been following the whole story and this is so bizarre I am having trouble believing it. I can't wait to see what punishment the A-10 hands out. This could get very ugly.

It'll take years for St. Bonnie's to recover from something like this. You don't just forfeit games, no matter what! It makes a total farce of the game. Punishment should be swift and harsh!

That's not because Jordan had any kind of consistant jump shot night in night out at the time. He shot that high because no one could stop him going to the basket...so he did so. Early and often.
