Related to an earlier thread, I can't help but love the old Schwarzenegger-era 80's action flicks. I caught some of "Action Jackson" on Starz the other night and it was fucking awesome. Just filled with awful one-liners and gratuitous death scenes. "But you severed his arm! He had a spare!" Priceless. Plus, it was filled with other Ah-nold movie fraternity members like Bill Duke and "that guy who's dead tired" from Commando.
And speaking of Commando, there is no finer action trilogy than the unholy Schwarzenegger trio of "Commando", "Predator" and "Running Man". Just about everything I want from a mindless action flick.
Ah, they just don't make 'em like that anymore. Everything nowadays is "save the world from armageddon" crap.

I wish they made Advent calendars for WrestleMania, although I'd skip the Mark Henry day.

I was never really a fan of "Running Man". I really liked the book and thoght the film was a let down. I think I'd put "Raw Deal" in my personal unholy Arnie trilogy. I completely agree with your other selections, though, especially "Predator".

I loved the 80s american karate films myself. Remember American Ninja with Michael Dudikoff, or Kill or Be Killed and Kill and Kill Again where it was 4 to 6 good guys against hundreds of red, blue, gree, and lavender colored bad ninjas? These were super cool.

The best has to be GYMKATA, with the scene where he's in the town with all the insane people... very cool flick.

"Predator" is my favorite Ahhnld movie of all time with "Twins" a very close second....I saw Ahhnld one time and as I walked past him I quoted Danny Devito - "Tonight is your night Bro." - I could hear him laughing as I walked away.....

And who can forget Jeff Speakman as "The Perfect Weapon"?

OK, there was one of these kinds of movies. The good guys are battling their way into the bad guy's enclave. One of the good guys ends up in a workshop area with some number of baddies. His specialty is shuriken, but (as is the problem with disposable weaponry) he finds that he's already thrown away all of his copious supply of shuriken. Looks around. Spots a stack of circular saw blades near him. Grabs them & uses those to dispatch the remaining baddies. Turns directly into the camera & says: "Thank God for Black & Decker."

What is that movie????

I don't think any thread about cheesy 80's action flicks is complete without Streets of Fire. Maybe Gymkata too.

Not sure of the years and too lazy to look it up, but I loved Arnold in Conan and Red Sonja. Those kicked ass.

No discussion about late 80's bad karate type movies can be complete without mentioning "Kickboxer" Has there ever been a more menacing villain than Tong Po? A more vile smarmy gold chain wearing villain than Freddy Li? A less believable pair of brother than Van Damme and Dennis Alexio? A cooler gaffe than the "paralyzed" Alexio using his feet to push himself around in his wheelchair? A better line than "kick the tree"?

That movie was "Force Five," and I think it starred 80's kung fu movie heavy Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. I used to see it on cable all the time and "Thank God for Black & Decker" is pretty much all I can remember of it. *L*

Cleaning up my room, I came across one that I think I'm quite embarassed by actually, but only because I didn't mention it... MEGAFORCE! Starring the great Barry Bostwick and a flying motorcycle. The motorcycle was thrown in because the producers saw Battlestar Gallatica 1980 and thought the idea was 'cool enough to steal'.

...indeed it was.

Megaforce!! An all-time, all-cheesy sci-fi classic. The finale, with Bostwick saying "The good guys always win, even in the '80s", always made me laugh.

Gymkata was also great. The scene in the town where there just happened to be a high bar in the alley for Kurt Thomas to swing on is beautiful in its ridiculousness...

YEA!!!! I've wondered for ages what the name of that was. (That's the only thing I remember from the movie too, but I believe I'll have to get hold of a copy of it just for that one scene.) Thank you!!!!

This might not be from the 80's, might be early 90's, but the flick is "Excessive Force" with Thomas Ian Griffith as the Kung-Fu cop, and Burt Young as the bad mobster. Corny as hell, but I still watch it all the time. Charlotte Lewis getting naked might have something to do with that.

Wasn't Charlotte Lewis the old lady from the Facts of Life? That's gross. Who'd want to see an old lady naked.

I LOVED Dolph Lundgren's classic turn in The Punisher. Sitting naked in the sewer, contemplating life....or even just talking to himself about killing people... Good times.

The Chase Is On:
8th: Oilers [28-23-8-8] 72pts; 15 games left
14th: Flames [21-31-10-4] 56pts; 16 games left
Flames must win 7 more games than the Oilers do to make playoffs
Any combination of 8 Oilers wins or Flames losses eliminates them from the playoffs

Charlotte Rae was in Facts of Life (whew)
Charlotte Lewis was also in The Golden Child; that had some good 80's lines too

(edit)
I remember customizing my pooter with Ahnold sounds:
error window: "ees naht a toomuh"
closed window: "Terminated" (showed up a lot)
shut down: "ah'll be back"
entrance: "i am the pahty poopah"
empty trash: "relax....you've been erased"

Actually one of my 80's guilty pleasures is Lundgren's "I Come In Peace"
