I caught this film the other day and it was very entertaining. Jackie Chan has been performing unbelievable physical feats since the seventies, and he continues to amaze in this film. Sure, the plot is fairly thin, but no more so than your typical action film. But, Jackie's fights and the accompanying choreography is stunning. He continues to pay homage to his silent film heroes Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplain with his flawless physical comedy and slapstick, including a doff of the cap to the Keystone Kops. Owen Wilson is pretty funny, using current slang and references in the 19th century setting. The martial artist who plays Jackie's sister is also tremendous. The production values are top notch and this might be his finest US effort to date and puts his career back on the right track (just try to forget the Tuxedo ever happened--brutal). Highly recommended!

Jkyle.com says:

This movie ruled on all sorts of levels and I hope it makes a profit because it deserved better than losing to Kate Hudson.

Sadly, I was the only person who got the Jack the Ripper beating and laughed.

Jackie:Why are you so mean to him?
Owen:Because I see a lot of myself in that kid... it's freakin me out.

The weather has kept me from getting to the local theater and checking this one out ... Unfortunately, it seems that the disappointment of "The Tuxedo" is rubbing off on Jackie's other projects, as the movie's profits are slipping rapidly at the box office.

Such a shame ... Maybe "Rush Hour 3" will help put Mister Chan bac k on top here in the States.

You know, I saw the Tuxedo on the plane back from Atlanta last month... it wasn't that bad.

Shanghai Knights was really good. Lise and I caught it opening weekend, and it was actually worth it.

Except for the guy who was snorting to our left.... he snorted like 27 times after the movie started, after I turned to him in front of his entire family and bitched him out.

Of course, he probably did it about 50 times in the 20 minutes before the "Silence is Golden" thing came up.

I loved the movie... it was just laugh out loud funny.

Great coreography... and Jackie Chan VS Donnie Yen... thats any hard core martial arts movie fan's wet dream come true.

Fann Wong did great in her first American role... shes a 30something singer/actress from Singapore... popular in HK..

It really is a great flick... if you haven't already seen it, I definately recommend checking it out... It is a HUGE step up from the Tuxedo (but yea... I'm still getting it on DVD)

I only had one problem with the movie as a whole. the kid. The reveal on who Charlie was, was a bit too much of a "Wink Wink" to me, especially on the heels of the reveal on Artie (which most of the audience still didn't get. Feh.)

The Jack the Ripper bit was a surprise, since I had expected he and Rathbone would be one and the same.

Within a 2 year period, Jackie's done movies with John Lone and Donnie Yen. This makes me verrry happy. Now he just needs to do a film with Bolo Yeung to make up my holy triumvirate of evil. =)

I have a special friend. He's the baby Jesus and I love him and...and...he don't give me no s**t and he don't f**k around and he's just the f**king coolest guy and I wanna say I love the baby Jesus.I can't say enough.I love the baby Jesus and I think...he's the best thing and he's really great when he shares his love for everbody. You know what I mean?I can't even see a manger without thinkin' about him,eh?I just love the Jesus.I've only been into him for a couple of hours though, but I'm really into him.

Normally, you'd be right, but Shaw trusted Marco from the war. Plus, you have to figure that with all the brainwashing Shaw was undergoing, he had to have a sense that *something* was wrong. I really liked the direction in this movie.
