As you probably know by now, I'm on a quest to get informed about Japanese wrestling. I'm looking for suggestions on good AJPW and NJPW tapes, as well as info on FMW and the afformentioned companies.
I've seen Puroresu.com which leaves something to be desired, and I can't sort through the AJPW official website (ya know, the Japanese text thing). Are there any good English sites that will give me info such as wrestler profiles and event results? Thanks.
It's also helpful to read reviews on Japanese tapes at the Smarks or other sites. As I recommend to everybody else, you ought to start with the J-Cup shows ('94, '95, and 2000), which will at least begin to indoctrinate you into the junior heavyweight divisions, while also featuring current US featured talent such as: Chris Benoit (Wild Pegasus, '94/'95) Dean Malenko ('94) Eddy Guerrero (Black Tiger '94) Rey Misterio Jr. ('95) Christopher Daniels (Curry Man, 2000)
Japanese talent that has been featured in the states such as Jushin "Thunder" Lyger & Ultimo Dragon are also on these shows.
The Tokyopop FMW shows are a waste of money, and don't feature many good matches.
Compilation (Best of whatever year) tapes are also recommended. Once you find a style that appeals to you, then you can follow it up.
I have a special friend. He's the baby Jesus and I love him and...and...he don't give me no s**t and he don't f**k around and he's just the f**king coolest guy and I wanna say I love the baby Jesus.I can't say enough.I love the baby Jesus and I think...he's the best thing and he's really great when he shares his love for everbody. You know what I mean?I can't even see a manger without thinkin' about him,eh?I just love the Jesus.I've only been into him for a couple of hours though, but I'm really into him. --Bruce McCulloch
