Kazaa has spyware. Lots of it. So here's some alternatives:
* iMesh. If you use it, you should be flogged. It's an alternative, but a piss-poor one. I seem to get better performance with it, though. (shrug) That's in spite of the HEAPS of pop-ups/spyware/adware that it installs.
* Kazaa Lite. Same great taste, NO SPYWARE. I use it now.
* eDonkey. Pretty good, minimal ads. Haven't gotten it to work, but haven't tried since the Great Uncapping (of my school dialup).
* Direct Connect. A bit elitist (most hubs have absurd entry requirements, like you share 5 gigs or something) but they should have anything you could ever need.
File sharing is WRONG(Kazaalite)! It's EVIL(Kazaalite)! It's taking monet away from poor artists(Kazaalite) and not allowing them to feed thier kids(Kazaalite). You should NOT steal music(using Kazaalite) that is termed 'Intelectual(Kazaalite) Property' because it's (Kazaalite)THEFT, and you WILL go to (Kazaalite)Prison for it, where one of the many (Kazaalite)Rap artists you are ripping off(Kazaalite) will pull an 'OZ' on you.
That is (Kazaalite)all.

LimeWire is good too... espically if you have a Mac. (Which I don't, but my roomate does... and he loves LimeWire)

You don't get it boy, this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table. And I'm the surgeon. Something tells me to stop with the leg. I don't listen to it. But where in the world is there in the world A man so extroardinaire?
Remember, it's ok to discuss filesharing of files that you are legally entitled to file share. What's not legal is discussing piracy.
Let's keep this above board, shall we?
Your analogy is similar to:
"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?" "I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?" "They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"
I use BitTorrent to trade Pearl Jam shows. A bit obscure, but worth it if you're looking for a large group of files (such as perfectly legal live shows that bands allow to be traded :)).
Kazaa Lite, while spyware free, does have some security issues, but, hell, everyone else uses it so the chances of anything happening are relatively low.

OK, so a bunch of random people have allowed me to 'borrow' thier music, and I'm finding something odd about some of it.
There are these annoying beeps going on in some of them. It's kinda shitty to be getting into a song and hear a beep abut every minute of the song.
Is this some new shit for stopping all of THOSE EVIL BASTARDS from stealing music they don't PAY for, of which I AM NOT one of them... I'm just BORROWING the music, mind you.

If you're "borrowing" newer/more popular music then I would guess it is most likely fake files being put out by the record industry or agents acting on their behalf. If it's older obscure stuff, then you're likely just getting bad files. The odds of someone deciding to take the time to put out a fake file of "theme from greatest american hero" is much less than a fake version of the new U2 song for instance.

Funny you should mention it, I downloaded a screwed up version of GAH theme, it was god punishing me for wanting to use it as my windows opening theme.

I'm glad you mention this, because it lets me ask a question I was wondering about for a while now with this whole online file sharing thing. How well do I need to know someone in order to qualify as letting a "friend" borrow my files. Surely no one would question the idea that I let my roommate in college have an MP3 from one of the cd's I own. And I can see where the idea that if I go onto Kazaa and let someone DL songs from my computer, where that would be going too far. But what about this. I have a pristine copy of the GAH theme on my computer. I have never met IPK, but we have conversed in threads on this board before. Do I know him well enough that I would be able to email him a copy of that eternal classic theme without raising the ire of the DMRC and the RIAA, or is it still too distant. What if it's someone who I email on a regular basis having met them on this board? This is one of the biggest problems with trying to regulate this sort of thing when the internet is involved, as we're now communicating with people in a whole new paradigm really.

Lite gave me the virus from Hell... but still it has no spyware. I got Stinger and cleaned up. KL is annoying, but it works.

Xolox is an interesting program. You can opt out of the spyware during the install. The search function is pretty good. Give it some time and you usually come up with some surprises.
I have not had any problems with KazaaLite. (Sharing is EVIL!) I always VCheck anything I 'borrow' from others and if I dl an executable (Sharing is for COMMIES!)I have a shitty 2 gig hd to open it in first to see what it'll do to me. Get the newest version of KLite (You are going to HELL!)and it'll come back with up to 2000 hits on searches instead of the normal 300 to 600.
