Just got home from Velocity/SD! tapings at the FU Center. I`m cribbing a little from what`s been posted on 411. The entire upper section was tarped off, which was eerie, since we sat up there last year for SD!. This time we were 7 rows from the ring..and opposite the camera (I thought we were on the same side as the camera). So we`re definitely on-camera. Look for my orange V1 logo and my friend holding my HOGAN FEARS A.L.F. sign.

Dark Matches
- Kanyon d. Jobber (Kanyon got a good pop and looked good in-ring)

- Nathan Jones d. Julio DeNiro (Jones got a big pop, seemed pretty generic in-ring)

Velocity Matches
- Nunzio d. Funaki

- John Cena d. American Dragon (no Cena rap, ok match)

- Bill DeMott d. Bill Wall

- Edge d. A-Train (tons of "shave your back" chants, some of the biggest heel heat of the night)

SmackDown! Matches

- Rey Mysterio d. Jamie Noble. (double 619 on Noble & Nidia)

- Great pretaped Rock promo, with less-subtle heel talk. Cheap Tampa Bay jokes

- Rikishi d. Nunzio (Nunzio twice?)

- A huge crate was lowered via crane into the ring with a note To: Undertaker From: Big Show. Heyman came out, invited Taker into the ring...and it was Brother Love, who talked quite a while. Taker made some great "don`t worry, I`ll kick his ass in a minute" faces, and gave him a chokeslam. After our entire section chanted "tombstone!!" at him, he gave him one of those too.

- Hulk Hogan was shown backstage. He bumped into Brock Lesnar, who smiled and said welcome back.

- At some point they showed a Torrie Wilson video set to Cherry Lips by Garbage. Perhaps WWE doesn`t know this song is about a transvestite.

- Kidman d. Matt Hardy (look for my V1 sign!)

- Team Angle d. Los Guerreros to win the WWE Tag Team Titles. (I think Los Guerreros' gimmick is that they're faces because they`re such good heels. Great heel tactics from Eddie.

- Hulk Hogan came out to a big pop. He got into a verbal spat with The Rock via the big screen. Rock took a shot at Hogan's long distance commercials. Hogan said Vince is full of it when he says he created Hulkamania.

- Immediately afterwards, we saw Sean O`Haire pull Brian Kendrick aside backstage, but there was no audio due to Hogan's music still playing.

- A-Train d. Shannon Moore. (we already booed A-Train once) This was a non-match because Kendrick came out and "streaked" a la the soccer Nike ad...or a la Naked Mideon. He came back after the match, was chased backstage by refs, and ended up in Steph's office.

- John Cena rapped a challenge to Brock Lesnar for a match next week.

- Kurt Angle d. Chris Benoit clean with an Angle Slam. Benoit ended up very bloody...not a lot of crowd noise, until the end, with some sick Benoit suplexes. Afterwards, Team Angle ran in, but Edge and Brock made the save.

After the show, Brock, Benoit, and Edge stood in the ring. Brock did the Brock Dance for us, then Edge did it too alongside him, so they went to the other side and did the Brock Dance in tandem. They shook Benoit's hand, posed a moment for the crowd, and left. The end.

Good show, despite the non-match with A-Train/Moore.

So SmackDown is getting BOTH Sean O'Haire and Nathan Jones?

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.

Good....Smackdown needs more bodies anyway. Plus, the pre-taped show can cover any rookie mistakes from Jones.

Is the old Undertaker coming back? With Vince's recent nostalgia spell, this might be what's happening. AND I'M GLAD. I'd tune in to see the old Undertaker. F*ck this whole American Bad Ass crap, the wrestling mortician! And I'm serious. no sarcasm.

Imagine the IWC's reaction if it was anyone other than Kurt was kicking Benoit's ass EVERY week. How many times does Kurt need to beat this guy before we move on? They even have Benoit cutting promos (which should always be a LAST resort) on how much he has been through and how much he is serious about being a champion yet every week and seemingly every PPV Angle hands him his ass. I don't think anyone except the smarts are getting a thing from this feud. Benoit looks like the not ready for prime time player that the most marks think he is anyway. Kurt is getting a rub from the last person he should need one from. Standing ovations aside, I don't think most fans care that much and are just waiting for Austin or Brock to beat Kurt while they still don't really give two shits about Benoit. To me it's like they are too good to waste fighting each other and in a way cancel each other out. That and the the fact they are both heels. Again, it's great for the smarts but it just doesn't seem to carry over to the fans like say Flair/Steamboat.

Smackdown should be good, again. Too bad, they'll probably cut out the Happy Dance.

However, this is the third Smackdown in a row that Brock Lesnar hasn't wrestled.

So this week, Albert's jobbing on Velocity?! Jeebus, people, at least be consistent with his inexplicable push.

Actually the big question is why put Edge on Velocity? If they want to feed the punishment thought, thats one way to do it.
I hope they haven't jumped the gun a bit by putting the tag titles on Team Angle. True, they have had very good matches so far. But, lets see what happens when they have to defend against Rikishi/Nathan Jones (an example I came up with, thats it).
Seeing Taker is bad, but seeing Brother Love is good. So, that segment is a push, which might be as a positive a Taker segment possible.
Catchphrase and Hogan on TV at the same time? Time to channel surf.

Rey Mysterio d. Jamie Noble. (double 619 on Noble & Nidia)

This could be an *awesome* feud with some *awesome* matches, contending for "match of the night" at WM if given enough time.

    Rikishi d. Nunzio (Nunzio twice?)

*sigh*

Wasn't Nunzio supposed to be helping Knoble get back on the winning track? Weeks of hype, and it was all flushed away in their 1st match together. Good job, WWE.

But Edge also did a save at the end of the show, so he`s still in the Angle/Benoit/Brock mix. After that ending, I`m wondering if they will do a Team Angle vs. Edge/Benoit/Brock 6-man match at No Way Out, rather than have Edge or Benoit job to Kurt in a title match.

And if you skip Hogan and Rock`s dialogue, you`ll miss some hillarious heel work from Rocky.

Speaking of which, after that segment, the WWE Sign Police came `round and took a DIE ROCKY DIE sign from the row behind us. Isn`t he a heel now? Or is death not funny to the company that "killed" Al Wilson a few weeks ago?

On the subject of Benoit's repeated losses to Angle, I am perhaps alone in my hope that this leads to a Very Special Feeling(tm) when Benoit finally wins one.

In order for it to be special, though, he's got to keep losing. To me, Smackdown is much more about competition between wrestlers in the ring than competition between egos outside of the ring. The idea of a truly BIG win is one I don't think we've seen done properly in aaaaages (Mick Foley winning the belt, maybe? Ricky Steamboat finally going over Randy Savage?). Meanwhile, it continues to build up Angle as a guy who can't be outwrestled. The only really tricky part would be this: if you put Benoit over Angle before WM, you potentially weaken Angle too far; if you wait until after WM, then if Brock wins, Benoit winning one will mean significantly less.

It's this kind of progressive yet solid booking that gives me hope. There are all kinds of directions they could take it, too, which means less predictability.

It takes patience, though. Assuming that's really what's going on (and it doesn't have more to do with the writers not knowing what else to do), I think this is a good sign. Plus, I'm getting 10-15 minutes or so of SWANK~! action from the two of them every week.

Is Edge's appearance on Velocity evidence of that rumored de-push that he was supposed to be getting? It would be hard to say no.

I'm not sure if this has been reported , but after the match, while Rikishi was dancing, Nunzio got on the mic and said something to the effect of:

"Are you disrespecting me? Do you think it's funny? The people I'm with won't like that. And you won't like the people I'm with."

I really hope this doesn't mean an FBI reunion.

I love Team Angle and I'm sure I'm going to mark out when I see them win the Tag Team Titles but what happenned to the title hunt. It seems now as soon as a team is introduced they are given a run for the titles. I was looking forward to a Team Angle run but I was hoping for some type of chase before they win it not a victory in their first major shot. The art of building feuds is lost.

All hail the reign of Team Angle.

Team Angle now holds 75% of the titles on Smackdown (and I dont think they will go after the CW btw)
THey have gold. They are in charge. I present to you..
the nastiest most annoying heels in the business at the moment. What a great move..
Expect Brock, Benoit. Edge, Los Guerreros and whoknowswho to be chasing them for 6 weeks until WM (and after)

Why are you guys bitching about Angle beating Benoit? Kawada NEVER defeated Misawa for the first five years in a singles matches, yet it is considered one of wrestling's greatest feuds.
