It's my understanding that if you quit or get fired you CANNOT collect unemployment. Of course, I know nothing of California law, but it's my impression that here in Connecticut you have to be laid off from a permanent job in order to collect. Of course, "fired" probably isn't the term used in the law books, but I believe that if you are "terminated" for misconduct or poor performance then you have been "fired" and if you are let go because of down-sizing or other financial problems in your company, then you have been "laid off." (These terms will vary from region to region and country to country). Also, I think that just up and quitting doesn't make your case look any better as far as collecting unemployment checks.
I do know that there some stipulation about the permanent job thing. I've never actually held a job where I was hired without some understanding that my services would no longer be needed after a given time (wish me luck, I find out this week if I get one of those permanent jobs), therefore, I believed myself to be inelligible to collect unemployment even when I was really strapped last year.
so, I have no answers, DMC, but I wonder if anyone here knows what the laws are in ANY state.

They finally figured out that you were surfing here instead of working, eh?
Your analogy is similar to:
"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?" "I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?" "They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"
I think they've known that for awhile. I just think it's mutual that I've overstayed my welcome with this position and its time for me to go before my 2nd year anniversary. I've already overshot my predecessor by about 6 months and am starting to feel more of the "we're watching you" heat, which I don't need.

You have to be fired or layed off to collect any federal unemployment aid. If are laid off there are no questions asked and recieve benefits for 6 months. If you are fired you can collect, but you have to go before the Unemployment Board to collect. There is always chance that your previous employer will show up and fight said unemployment. My previous employer, Amazon.com, had a person who did nothing but fight any unemployment claims.
My advice to you is find a new job, then come into your old job one day and take a big shit right in front of the bosses door, stick your badge on top, and head home a happy happy man.

I have to agree with everybody else. The PS2 is the overall bargain right now. I picked up the GameCube when it came out because it was cheaper and I liked the opening Titles. now PS2 is on the level with GC for price and has some great games as well....
