Ok, so I work at a gas station, and we always try to get whatever new kind of that comes out. We got this new thing called "Upside Down 7-Up" and I, being a trend-setter, decided to try it. Let me tell you, IT IS NASTY! It's like an anti-7 Up, in that 1) it is carbonated 2) it is green (instead of yellow) and 3) the lime taste is much more noticeable, to the point of overpowering the lemon. There's a reason it's called "lemon-lime". The lemon is more important than the lime. If the lime were more important they'd call it "lime-lemon". So anyway, I gives this soda the thumbs down. You have been warned.

Hmm..maybe that is the upside down part on it? that it is the other way around?
lemon=yellow
lime=green

IT might suck, but the name and color warn you ;)

True, but I had to try it out, in the interest of science. I hope and hope that one day there will be a soft drink with a taste close enough to that of Surge so that I can party like it's 1999.

Surge? Do yhey still make that shit? I remember 7Eleven used to have it as one of the Slurpee flavors and that stuff was worse then Pepsi Blue, and we ALL know how fucked up Pepsi Blue is... that shit it death in a bottle.

I like it, myself. It's like Green River soda, but with caffeine. (If you don't live in the Midwest, Green River is a sweet lime-flavored soda.)

I also know a guy who's waiting for Surge to return in the 26 ounce can (they sold it that way in Wisconsin for a year or two).

I thought it was called "dUL" but wasn't the big selling point that it was caffinated, just as the big selling point for 7UP was that it contained no caffeine?

I always associated 7UP with vomiting because I only ever seemed to have it when I had the flu. About once a year in high school I'd try to kick my caffeine habit (if only so it would have an effect once I got back on it ) but I always ended up gravitating towards Sprite when I wanted lemon/lime. Then I pretty much gave up lemon/limes altogether once Coke and Pepsi made their caffeine-free (yet not sugar-free) versions easily available.

This, of course, leads to the "7UP GOLD" discussion, then the "Apple Slice" discussion, and finally the "Sparkling Vanilla A&W" discussion and then I end up back on the yellow horse.

That reminds me, I have a Diet Dr Pepper in the fridge (if my coworkers haven't stolen it by now). I'll be right back

There's a guy who spent years saying "Never had it, never will" in commercials who's now looking at a bottle of this stuff, shaking his head and going to fetch his rifle.

My mother used to feed me crap loads of it when I had the flu. Thing is, I'll still by it when my stomach is doing backflips. I don't go near it normally.

Sounds like Lime Rickey. You can't get that out on the West Coast of Canada. I had it while I was out in the Maritimes and dearly miss it. That and good ginger beer...

Does 7Up in the USA have a yellow tint to it? Up here in Canadia it's dead clear, not even a hint of color. One of those "little differences" I guess; kinda like your guys' Smirnoff Ice is a (*bleeeeech*) malt beverage instead of Vodka and Juice like it is here.

StampedeFan23: dude, you drank Canada Dry Lime Rickey? Like, straight? I always thought that was a pre-mix like Canada Dry Collins...I guess if'n you like your sugar

I love my ginger beer too, but I'll settle for ginger ale most of the time. Canada Dry is fine, but I prefer Schweppes or Sussex Golden. The real treat I get sometimes is called Vernor's Ginger Ale. I can't get it here in Nova Scotia (or anywhere in Eastern Canada that I know of), but when I get a chance to hit Upper Canadia and/or cross the border it's always the first thing I hunt for. It finds a sweet middle ground between the heavy ginger of ginger beer and the smooth caramel finish of golden ginger ale.

The freakiest softdrink I can think of was called Orbitz (every time I go to certain websites and get the "Orbitz" airfare deals pop-up ad I think it's coming back). Orbitz was like a flat (i.e. non-carbonated) drink with these little gel-like "balls" floating in suspension. That shit was gross. And wierd. And not for people on hallucenogenic drugs... I still don't know why I drank so many of them...

Edit: I forgot another East Coast original -- Pineapple Crush. As vile as it sounds, and it's only available in Newfoundland (well, we can get it here in Halifax at the Newfoundland Store along with Seal Flipper Pie, Salt Cod, and, if you're really lucky, bakeapples, partridgeberries, and cod tongues and cheeks).

I don't trust PepsiCo with anything color-wise since I decided to combine Pepsi Blue with Dr. Pepper Red Fusion. I don't drink sodas anymore, so this was purely out of curiosity. So, I'm thinking it's going to be purple, right. Makes sense, Blue + Red = Purple. So, I need to know, why did this combination create green. There's no yellow there. Where is this green coming from? As for the taste, it tastes like straight-laced Dr. Pepper.

Right now, my poison of choice is Reed's Ginger Brew, particularly the Spiced Apple variety.

My local Trader Joe's carried several flavors of Hansen's Natural Soda until recently, but they've apparently dropped all but the diet varieties. I'm currently on a quest to find SOMEONE in the Philly area that carries Hansen's Tangerine or Black Cherry flavors -- you can order them directly from the company, but you end up paying ten bucks a case and an additional TWENTY for shipping. Ouch.

Hmph. Over here in Miami, we used to have an urban legend that Surge would reduce your sperm count. It's from all them carbohydrates and shit...

If that was true, by now I'd be more impotent than a... very impotent thing, by George!

7Up's "dnL" has not made it to Washington state yet (and hopefully it never will).

Steph: We get Green River soda here at about half of the supermarkets. It's not bad, but not an everyday sort of soda. Now, Big Red on the other hand...

Various: Surge was re-marketed by Coke for a while as Mello Yello, but it's disappeared from the Seattle market as well, which disappoints me. That stuff was WORLDS better than Dew.

Why you would drink anything other than Afri cola - I'll never know. If I lived in Seattle it would be that and Bawlz...

Wow, I didn't think that at all when I tried it. I thought dnL tasted like a slightly limey Fresca. Kind of like they were going more for a "limeade" flavor than a "green lollipop" flavor (which is what Green River tastes like.)

I'll stick to Green River. And Sonic limeades.

Of the new sodas introduced over the past year, the only one that's stuck with me is Red Fusion. Best new soda in years.

One of the great mysteries in life: Caffeine free Pepsi is WAY better than the regular version.

I still haven't figured that one out.

When you're not supposed to drink caffeine, things like this bother you.
