So rebuilding a Cap strapped team and getting them to contender status despite no secondary isn't good enough. So who are the Niners going to bring in to replace Mooch. Green? Ty Willingham? Bill Walsh?

My money would be on Green. You knew Mooch was gone when he sat on the ball to end the first half of the Bucs game. I'm surprised they didn't hold onto him until the other coaching vacancies were filled, as now they can't demand compensation for him. He'll probably be in Jacksonville by the weekend.

His records far from shabby but Mooch's style of footbal never really sat well with a large number of 9ers fans from what I could tell. He didnt play the classic West coast offence that they know and love in San Fran so the fans never got behind him.

Green seems the most likely replacement of those you listed.

Who else thinks Marvin Lewis is hating himself right now; sure, the likelihood that he would've gotten the 49ers job is slim with Denny Green still out there, but everything about the job(city, climate, personnel, ownership) is better than the Bengals gig.

Everything about a gulag in Siberia is better than the Bengals coaching job.

Marv Lewis is in the worst good news/bad news situation I've ever seen. It's likely that no gm and the all around sucktitude that is the Bungles will drag him down into the 5 win area.

But if somehow, and this is a big SOMEHOW, he manages to bring this team to 8-8 next yr and a playoff birth the next, he could pretty much write his own check for the rest of his life.

Like I said, not likely, but a strange situation.

While Dennis Green seems the obvious candidate, he's been very vocal on ESPN/ESPN radio saying he only wants a job where he has some if not all player personnel say.

IT appears that p.p. issues were one of the things that got Mooch booted.

I certainly wouldn't rule out the Walrus getting out of Seattle.

If the Lions had any sense, Mornhinweg and Millen would be gone tomorrow and Tom Izzo would be calling Mariucci begging him to take the job. Of course, they don't so it's probably going to be another season of sub-mediocrity followed by Mornhinweg getting axed and another restart.

Jacksonville? Wayne Weaver says he wants a coach/GM hybrid.

Green was on ESPN news last night saying that that he would be willing to work under a GM in SanFran. That his job wants depend on the teams situation.

Hahahaha. Denny Green as coach in SF. There goes the 49ers franchise down the toilet.

From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:

DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?

SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.

Does it remind you of any show in particular?

Yeah, I bet they'll get really sick of making the playoffs every year.

My problem with Green is that in Minnesota he ignored the defense and tried to focus exclusively on the offense. The Niners need defensive help and a defensive coach would make a better fit. Plus, his handling of Moss and Carter left much to be desired. I have some Viking friends that could tell tons of stories about how he let Carter and Moss run wild on the sidelines. Carter was actually worse than Moss as he would come off the field and run to the Offensive Coordinator whining about getting the ball more. Moss would just come off and rant on people but Carter would lobby anyone he could for more balls. I feel bad for Culpepper for putting up with what he put up with back then.

I think Firing Mooch shows that they are sick of just making the playoffs every year. Green won't change this, talent on Defense would change this.

Awesome news...and I think Jaws will do a pretty good job, but...I still think they don't use their best talking head enough work.....Steve Young did a game if I remember correctly, or maybe just sat in the booth for a while, and was good to listen to.
