That Garth Brooks song in the Dr.Pepper commercial is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Three words:

David Lee Roth

Three more:

Mormon Tabernacle Choir (singing standards from 1900-1960 or so)

What can I say? I have these "moods"...

It's funny what's a guilty pleasure now compared to years ago. When I was in my hair-metal phase (*shudder*) I listened to a lot of Sinatra, Bennet, and other luminaries from that age and considered them to be guilty pleasures at the time. Tom Waits was always a guilty pleasure until I found out I wasn't his only fan (thank god for the Internet...)

Others I may have hidden from friends at one time or another:

Mott the Hoople (my girlfriend still can't understand this)
Harry Nilsson
Frank Zappa
Ween
Ute Lemper

Although I am an obnoxiously huge snob when it comes to artistic devils like corporate rock and singer-songwriters of the 70s and 80s (aka "wuss music"), I own "The Essential Journey" double CD and altogether way too many Gordon Lightfoot mp3s.

Hm. I feel a little better now. Anyone else want to get something off their chests? Bonus points to the first non-drummer who admits to liking Rush.

Non-drummer, big Rush fan here since 1989.

True guilty pleasures: select 80's retro and hair bands. My friend put some old Stryper songs on his X-Box hard drive and they all sound quite good.

"Alright, now I'd like to show you one of my favorite cartoons. It's a sad, depressing story about a pathetic coyote who spends every waking moment of his life in the futile pursuit of a sadistic roadrunner, who mocks him and laughs at him as he is repeatedly crushed and maimed. I hope you enjoy it!"

You know, Nuno went to my high school. A proud proud time for all of us.

We were going to give him a Distinguished Graduate plaque (other recipients include astronaut Charles Precourt) but nobody seemed to recall if he actually graduated.

Back on Gordo though, someone called Elwood did a cover of "Sundown" that you can get on your favorite file sharing program. That song is weird.

Oh, and I have to cop to liking some forms of horrifically misogynistic rap. Nothing as obvious as 2 Live Crew, but certainly a little Akinyele, and the infamous song wherein Maestro laments on the inabiliity of the average African American to procure a table dance.

Also, Cerberus, I *love* the Pizzicato Five.

And five bonus points to the first wiener who can tell me where I went to high school. And a restraining order for the one who tells me my old high school ID number.

Shakira. Her damn belly-dancing hypnotized me into loving her music.

Saigon Kick, though most people I tell Saigon Kick is awesome only heard the awful "Love is on the Way".

The Go-go's, Duran Duran, and a whole bunch more 80's stuff. I'll play GTA:VC just to listen to Wave FM.

Megadeth Rust In Peace still gets rotated in my CD player ("Holy Wars!!")

I should feel guilty for loving GWAR as much I do, but if you see them live, you will be converted.

Pizzicato Five which I don't know ANYBODY who likes them other then me.

I was kinda digging the whole vibe from the Twiggy Twiggy song, but I never would have seen or heard of them without Beavis & Butt-Head. So many great videos and songs broke into my soul because of that show... Sagat's Funk Dat stands out.

As far as my own... I'm way too into Great Big Sea, this Celtic-ish band from Newfoundland (spotted them on MuchMusic)... after downloading every one of their songs I could find, I start reading up on them and found a few articles just thrashing them to death and calling them "Great Big Cheese" and basically calling them an insult to music.

80s...yes. You kick up some Van Halen, and it's crazygonuts.

Um... Billy Joel. The best part about liking Billy Joel was knowing that he could kick Huey Lewis' ass (and the damn News' collective ass) 8 different ways on 8 different days. (He also never did that fucking movie with Gwyneth Paltrow... and I like that fucking song from that movie... so, so terrible.)

I also got shit from my friends for liking enough Indigo Girls, Tori Amos, and Sarah McLachlan songs to justify buying their CDs. I say, funkdat.

And yeah, Wreck Of The Edmond Fitzgerald is badass! For you other Lightfooters, check out McLachlan's cover of Song For A Winter's Night... I like it.

Heh... and I thought my like of Garmarna was bad. Found them in DC, watching... erm... MHz2? It's what Swedish folk music would sound like if played by the Prodigy... like, "Vulture" (dunno the Swedish name) sounds kinda like "Breathe".

Has Micheal Jackson fallen so far that his music is considered a "guilty pleasure" ? That hurts me on so many levels.

Also Im a drummer and a fan of Rush, but Im black so do I get a pass? ;-) Also if any of my black friends knew that I had songs by The Eagles, Nickelback, Collective Soul and Stone Temple Pilots on my PC they would drag me out inot the street and beat me....

I LOVE Missy Elliot, espically her crazy ass music videos.
