And what has to be considered a major slap in the face, check out WWE.com, their front page on Thursday it's hyping the Honeymoon, and right now it's a picture of Dawn in bed with Al the corpse with Angle/Benoit no where in sight. This is not the first time this is the case, more times then not in the last few months WWE.com SD cover picture focused on this angle.

This sums up what, to me, is the most disturbing thing about this entire angle. The WWE is so focused on this crappy angle. Is the WWE that far out of touch with the audience or do they just not care? How can they possibly not recognize how lame this seemingly ENDLESS angle is or how apathetic the audience is to it? Along with the things you mentioned (especially ending a few shows with this POS angle), the advertisements for their big Live episode of SmackDown was devoted completely to that stupid wedding of Al and Dawn. WTF??? It's bad enough that they made that wedding a major part of their big Live SmackDown but, why use only that crappy wedding angle as the selling point on all the commercials?

To add to the confusion and the frustration, they have had several obvious opportunities to end this horrid angle but, they just keep extending it even more. They could have ended it when Al proposed but, they just had Dawn accept it to extend the angle. They could have ended it when Dawn tricked Tori into their hotel rendez vous (they wasted time on the PPV for this and it still didn't lead to the end)but, they had Dawn Marie ignore her promise to drop Al and they continued the angle. They had the PERFECT opportunity to end the angle during the wedding but, instead we get a stupid, and long, segment with an old guy in tighty whiteys while this stupid angle drags on even more. If it wasn't bad enough that the wedding went through with no problems, they then have Dawn Marie promise to polute the next episode of SmackDown with several video updates from their honeymoon. Is that supposed to be a good thing? Does the WWE really think that's a drawing point? Apparently they do....and, that's disheartening and disturbing, IMHO!!!

See what no one seems to want to accept here, with all due respect to the vitriol against this angle which is justifiable to say the least, is that this angle is a success. It makes me cringe and I find it unwatchable, but among the teenage boys demographic this angle is consistently the highest rated SD segment every week.

And it's got legs. It's four months old already and it's still drawing decent Nielson's. We, the IWC, often forget that we are in disagreement with everything that the ratings indicate is a success. We hate Goldberg, some of us hate Austin, Hogan's a scumbag apparently, but over the years the guys we "hate" likely are the ones 90 percent of everyone watching "loves". Sure, Trips and Steiner flexing their greased physiques was absolutely, hands-down and bar none, the most homosexual thing I've ever seen in my life. But it's drawing. And it's smart because once people see Stiener wrestle he won't be capable of drawing pedophiles to a pre-school.

Its simple WWE logic, they ALWAYS have to have a really bad angle. And this angle is it.

It'll take alot more than that to keep Lawler away from a pre-school.

5th Horseman and Hogan's My Dad nailed it right there. Personally, seeing Steiner stink something up (if that's what happens, I won't judge because I haven't seen him wrestle as BPP) is easier to stomach than an old man with a banana in his briefs, an actual banana, not... EWWWW! Sorry about that...

WWE's weekend syndicated shows continued the Al Wilson/Dawn Marie storyline by stating that Al Wilson is currently in a coma.

In a coma? How can you tell the difference?

His acting ability improving is the tip-off. The WWF/E: Where if you are beyond comatose when conscious, we put you in a storyline where you become comatose (Linda, now Al). Does this mean that Al will be making executive decisions in the near future?

I think they should pull the Lesbian angle, make Al leave for good, and let them co-manage a guy like Nathan Jones to make him popular.

I won't deny your numbers, but then again Vince said at a Philly newspaper (more on this later) that the last segment and the top of the second hour is usually the peak period during a Smackdown show. And this angle has been taking up these prime spot for a while now

But I have numbers as well that when they focus on this angle that hasn't done nothing for the overall rating.

Dec. 5 - Torrie/Dawn lesbian hotel kiss filmed, spoilers come out tune in there might be a hotel kiss, they go to the hotel room after the main event AND... The rating dropped 0.1 from the previous non-holiday show to a 3.4 from a 3.5 (the week before was Thanksgiving 2.7 BTW with a Torrie/Dawn Thanksgiving costum/food fight at the 9PM spot)

Dec. 12 - The next week in Philly, the same Philly where Vince told the newspaper that he is putting the Dawn/Torrie confrontation at the important 9PM spot because this storyline is "hot". The rating for that week dropped 0.2 having a 3.2.

Jan. 2- LIVE Smackdown with Dawn/Al wedding getting a 3.4 the exact same number as the week before.

How is this helping ratings? Focus on your wrestlers!! Remember when they used to do that and did pretty well in the Ratings at the beginning of the split.

From what I read in the spoilers from last night, it looks like the Al thing is cold... in more ways than one. I won't tell you why, but all I will say that this calls for another week for me without Team Angle. ::sob:: ::sob::

I understand your hatred for the Dawn/Al thing - I think it sucks balls too, but why does this mean you have to boycott the show? When Dawn/Al comes on, turn it off for 5-10 minutes. Flip back, and catch the greatness that is Brock/Angle/Eddie/Benoit/Team Angle/etc.

Changing channels is an imprecise science. You could easily miss something good if you flip whenever something bad is on. Particularly if you can rank 50-75% of the show as crud.

Tivo is my savior here. I have Tivo grab Smackdown and Raw, and I usually watch them after the fact (or after enough time has passed that I have a good recording buffer I can use to skip over the crap). Smackdown took me, oh, twenty minutes to watch last week. ("B-Squared match? *hammers on the 30 second skip button* Okay, done.") Three matches I was keen on and the rest I never saw. Only reason I knew Al was having "medical issues" is because I saw it in a recap online.

It's still a shame, though; I used to have my friends over each week for Raw and Smackdown, before we decided to stop that tradition because they were sucking so bad. Edited highlights do not a social party make.

If somebody thinks 50-75% of Smackdown sucks, then OK, but I'm just talking about skipping Dawn/Al. It isn't that hard to avoid.

And yea, you COULD easily miss something good if you flip whenever something bad is on, but isn't that better than missing the entire show (assuming you're missing it because of Dawn/Al, like Ringmistress said). If you do it that way, you have NO chance to see ANYTHING good.

Hey, I actually hit on this conclusion because...

SPOILER ALERT!!!

For the second week in a row, the Dawn/Al story will end the show, therefore hurting the last SmackDown before the Royal Rumble. Wait until you see the show on Thurs. I'm telling you, you'll know why. I try to catch Team Angle last week, but in skipping Al/Dawn, I only see the end of all their matches. THAT SUCKS. So, that's why, they're getting between me and Team Angle, and I REFUSE to even acknlowledge them, even in passing.

I totally agree with Hogan's My Dad. Folks, we understand you all hate this storyline. But the fact is that it *is* something that sells- sex, it plays on enduring old (and younger) men's fantasies, more sex, etc. The WWE is just doing what it does. Considering that I think we need to tone down the vocalized hatred for it just a bit. Personally, I liked it at first: it was so stupid it was funny. Now I agree that they are dragging it out too long and are not paying it off properly, but who cares? Let them do their little thing and get their ratings out of it. So long as its still mildly entertaining for being so demented, I personally wouldn't care.

The problem is; like every other brilliant idea devised in the past two year, it is not increasing ratings. If the viewership of the show was increasing during l'affaire de Al, then the criticism could be ignored. But since viewership has dropped, then the 'It might be Bad, but it increases Ratings' argument is invalid.
