I don't recall hearing that this guy was any good in the ring in the WWA, but he looks to have a decent gimmick/personality already. Maybe WWE will actually have a talented big guy for a change.

I've seen his WWA and ZERO-ONE stuff and Nathan is bad, I mean really bad. He just looks clueless in the ring. Maybe Heyman can hide it on Smackdown but from what I've seen, he's far from ready.

Ok, so the guy's got a good gimmick, but can't wrestle his way out of a paper bag. It's never stopped guys like Hulk Hogan and Big Show before, so let's give the guy a shot.

But I'm just a little concerned, as I wonder if WWE can make a potentially cool gimmick work. I mean, everybody's saying "Wow! This can be cool if they do it right!", but didn't we say the same thing when we first saw Reverend D-Von?

I'm not convinced...yet.

I hope having Nathan Jones rehash the old Nailz gimmick isn't just so that they have an excuse to bring the Bossman back again.

They often seem to come up with a good story behind the gimmick but no plan or ideas on how to follow through with it. For like a week or two the guy's character stands out as fresh and then he just blends back in with everyone else.

Hopefully this won't be the case but I'm not holding my breath.

Now if it were an excuse to bring back Jacques Rougeau for one final Jailhouse Match...

Yeah, I saw him wrestle a Raw dark match a couple months ago in Boston. He was... well, let's just say he needed some work. He looked pretty damn impressive physically, but it was obvious that he was still very green. His character definitely has some potential, though.

The WWE could put on 2 hours of Kevin Kelly sitting on the toilet reading a phone book, and I'd still watch next week.

Could it be possible that Vince has done the impossible and found the second coming of Ludwig Borga?

Sure, Hogan couldn't wrestle, but he knew how to play his role & make his comebacks to pop the crowd & keep them interested i his matches, which more than made up for his wrestling short-comings. Nathan Jones, is by all accounts, just horrible & green.

My problem is that Vince is primed to give Jones a huge push *despite* beeing greener than RVD's stash, while guys like O'Haire and Knoble had to spend a year in developmentals because they were "green" or "couldn't work WWE style". They could have given O'Haire a monster push. While he was still a bit green, he still could fly around and excite the crowd, as opposed to Jones who is just another lumbering hoss.

Screw Nathan Jones. He's going to have to do a HELL of a lot of work for me to give him a chance.

I've noticed this too. They get a great idea for a gimmick, and then after a short while, said gimmick wrestler is just a guy wrestling in a wacky costume. After the first two or three weeks, Brother D-Von went from being a preacher on a mission to being some wrestler dressed like a priest. The Hurricane went from being a superhero to being a guy who wrestled in a Green Lantern rip-off costume. With the exception of Goldust, it seems none of the gimmick wrestlers have a gimmick for too long.

i wouldn't say that the hurricane lost his gimmick. he seems to always use the super-hero persona whenever he does a promo, and he actually does wrestle at least somewhat in-character, which is more than a LOT of wrestlers do..

Does that mean Jones will be booked to win the title only to never get it?

Funny thing, Jones was in OVW at the beginning for quite some time and they CUT him due to lack of progress. I remember he got cut along with that redneck Diesel clone, Russ something. And that Big John guy.

Wow, I'm sure that's gonna keep him up at night...

I've actually been waiting for a Lecter-style character to float down the pike for some while now. As many have pointed out, done right it could be a goldmine. But I always though Geln jacobs with his hair cut short would make a far better fit in such a role.

I think the Lecter style psycho gimmick would work better with a smaller to medium sized wrestler rather than using it to sustain Vince's Big Man Fetish.

I believe you are talking about Russ Haas, and he did not get cut. He sadly passed away in early 2002.

Last decent Lecter type gimmick I can recall would be Mankind's original run

.....I miss that stuff actually, that was gold :(

It's like WWE dangling a shiny gold coin in one hand while giving you an enema with the other, which I'm assuming is quite hard to do, but WWE is pulling it off - SKLOKAZOID

Actually, I believe he is referring to Russ McCullough. This goof got cut sometime in the middle of 2002 after stinking up a few dark matches.

From the pictures, Nathan Jones looks HOT. That's more than I can say about most of all the wrestlers I see on TV, so I say bring him on in. I don't care if he sucks or is sloppy or unable to do anything in the ring. That's the same reason why I love Goldberg so much, even though he apparently has an ego the size of
Texas.

And it's why I hate guys like HHH, Steiner, Lesnar and Batista.. cuz they are DANG UGLY. However, I do also enjoy watching wresters who are good workers, like RMJ, Y2J, Angle and so on.. but they are slightly less fun to watch than the hot guys, like Albert and Bill DeMott, simply because they aren't as hot.
