I was doing some thinking about the Royal Rumble, and I am starting to think that this 15 from each brand thing might be a really good idea.
Now I know common logic suggests that Brock Lesnar is going to win it, but to be honest, no one really knows, and there is a wealth of possibility.
In the past, ever since the whole "winner gets a title shot at Wrestlemania" clause went into effect, it was clear from the beginning that only one out of two-or-three would be among those that could possibly win. But now- to start with, no one says that if a Raw guy wins the Rumble that Brock still could not have a shot at Angle at Wrestlemania. That match is going to happen, but who says it has to happen this way?
Each brand has 4 or 5 guys that are supposed to be "legitimate" contenders for the belt, hence have a high chance of winning. Offhand- I would say Booker T, Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, the Big Show, and Kane all fit the bill as current, active contenders to take the victory. Then there are the "inactive" or "unsigned" guys that the WWE could be holding in reserve for the Rumble, that while they likely won't win, it would not be such a stretch to HAVE them win, I mean guys like The Rock, The Undertaker, Stone Cold, and Goldberg . These will likely (if at all) be unnanounced entries to preserve the element of surprise, but still viable options.
Also, the WWE is supposedly is activly pushing new talent to the main event status, in an effort to create new stars. Well, guys like Batista and Randy Orton fit that bill. Their winning would be a surprise, but with guys like Brock coming out and getting pushed to the title in mere months, a Wrestlemania Main event slot for any of these guys is not unprecidented.
I am sure there are several guys that fit into each of these catagories that I have forgotten, but I have just listed 14 legitimate, possible contenders to take the Royal Rumble spot- and that is one hell of a lot better than 2 or 3-

sounds like a good idea. I read the RAW recap and i hope Jericho wins the Rumble and Main Events WM again. WM is looking to be a double/triple main event so it would be good if he got the slot.

RAW is not giving us all of thier RR enterants but on Smackdown, we are supposed to find out all 15 of thier guys who are gonna be in it. LOGIC would dictate that it should be a Smackdown Rumble winner cause they will build that person up as subtly as possible.

WWE doesn't follow LOGIC however, so I'm betting on a RAW winner and a triple main event at 'mania with the winner going against Steiner, Helmsley and HBK 3, and Lesner some way getting a shot a Angle.

Honestly, Vince wouldn't make this type of surprise. He would announce it before the PPV, since knowledge of Austin or anyone else returning will increase he buyrates. I think the last time he did this, he did it with The Undertaker when he returned as the biker. He would be the unannounced entry of the 4 you mentioned that Vince would allow, since he wouldn't make as big a difference in the buyrates as the other 3 would.

I thought the Undertaker's teaser on Smackdown pretty much announced his participation (didn't it end with a Royal Rumble logo?)

While I agree with the major participants, WWE/F has never revealed all the Rumble contestants, always leaving us with a surprise or two, which is one of my favorite things about the Rumble in the first place.

From the mid-carders to the top guys to the goof entrants. I love it when a Backlund or a Honky Tonk Man shows up unexpectedly, does a comedy spot, and gets tossed.

The best part was after Kane nailed him with the guitar, Kane just shook his head in disgust.

I loved seeing Backlund in the Rumble, and then there was Taka landing on his head after getting tossed. While it was good to see that he was alright, just watching all of the replays was great! And, you gotta love it when the big guys come in and clear house...Always one of the best parts of the Rumble.

Unless he's relying on one of two things.

a) enough people have already heard the rumours about Austin returning and are aware that he entered Rumble 2003 immediately after last years event. thus Austin marks are gonna buy the ppv regardless of whether an announcement is made in advance. They could even announce 13 of the competitors next week and leave 2 slots TBA to build the expectation and more importantly the buy rates.

b) He accepts that buy not announcing Austins participation buyrates will be a little down on what they could be. But people then find out what they missed and think, "damn , I cant miss No Way Out/Wrestlemania etc. in case I miss the next huge return", thus increasing long term buyrates. If they bring Stone Cold back on RAW some casual fans might think, "cool seen his return, best tune in next week to find out the results of the Rumble".

Personally I couldnt give a badgers tadger about Stone Cold as long I see a GORE, GORE, GORE!!!!

You'd better go to New York then, since Rhyno is hosting the Rumble party at the World.

Oh phooey. I thought it was this weeks RAW that he was hosting. Just yesterday he was getting me all excited by saying he was keen to be in the Rumble and all.

Man that sucks. Ah well, the Worlds certainaly doing well for itself what with RVD being there one month and Rhyno the next.

Sadly, last year they did name everyone beforehand.

Once Zach gets out of the McMahon's orbit and into regular matches, would he be able to use his artificial leg as a legal weapon? Would it fall into the classic heel schtick of the cast/chest protector/steel plate in the forearm?
