So this is what passes for modern rock these days, eh? Some of it is pretty decent, but I'm shaking my head at half of 'em anyway (Hoobastank? System of a Down?!? Linkin Park?!?!?!?!?)
Still, to see Sifl & Olly chart with a song they recorded in (I believe) '99 is a delight.
I'm going to go curl up with my tapes of the WFNX-Boston top 101 of 1993 now... because that's when modern rock MEANT SOMETHING!!! [/melodramatic old crank voice]
Taking a tip from MoeGates, I find that I am Rex Banner, Ty Pennington, Dr. Scott, Berlin-era Bowie, a Snake Print Doc Marten, Jim Morrison, Butch Coolidge, Robocop, Regis Philbin, an Emotional Drunk, Lincoln, Kermit and Ghetto Fabulous. Of course.
Meh, The End is pretty bad if you ask me. Give me KEXP any day of the week - one of the few radio stations here that I can actually stomach anymore. I also think it says a lot when their #1 song is from a band that's been defunct for almost nine years.
Also, two Puddle of Mudd songs in the top 20 (and above the catchiest QOTSA song ever) also says a lot about the radio station. :P
I realize it's a request list, yet I do believe my point still stands, since they "choose" (are paid) to play these songs - a good chunk of which are not so good (to put it nicely). If the songs weren't in their playlist, they wouldn't play them, would they?
As for KEXP's reception, it's crap at my house too - but it comes in good at work, and that's pretty much the only place I listen to the radio.
Looks like nu-metal is still beating garage rock...for now. I'm hoping that the new White Stripes album just kicks ass in 2003.
And where the hell is Electrical Storm? The biggest band in the world doesn't even make the damn list??
"If you go out with a girl and they say she has a great personality, she's ugly. If they tell you a guy works hard, he can't play a lick. Same thing." -- Charles Barkley
